  1. I've very recently bought a 74 plate approved used Golf R Mk8 from a VW main dealer (exactly 2 months ago). Car is on 19 inch alloys with passive dampers (non DCC). When I initially viewed the car I noticed the nearside front tyre was brand new whilst the others were part worn, consistent with the 18k mileage. I asked and was told it was likely a pothole and hence a new tyre was fitted by the dealer. Anyway the dealer agreed to fit a brand new tyre to the drivers side front as well, and after a successful test drive I decided to buy the car. 2 months and approx 1,500, uneventful and happy, miles later I realised whilst driving on the motorway one morning that the steering wheel was suddenfly slightly off to the left when going straight, coupled with a slightly wooly steering feel, and when stationary, a clicking noise could be heard when turning the wheel (at the nearisde wheel). Initial assessment at the road by the AA (operating under VW roadside) suggested a failed drive shaft but arranged for the car to be taken back to my local VW dealer. The dealer has proposed the car needs a new subframe and intends to fit one and do a 4 wheel alignment on warranty. I'm not sure what to do as the car has obviously had a hard knock before I owned it and whilst VW are proposing to sort it, how do I know I wont have a similar issue downstream, possibly outside of the warranty period. Also could this work somehow devalue the car meaning its residual are affected. I bought the car using VW finance on a PCP deal so could try to reflect the car on the basis it was sold not fit for purpose. In two minds as I really like the car and finding nice Rs is not easy! Thoughts and advice much welcome. Thanks, Sean.
