You may have seen the thread in this forum about refinancing with VWFS if you are well under the quoted mileage allowance, well the same goes if you are well over the quoted mileage. If you are worrying about being hit for excess mileage when you hand the car back, requesting additional mileage and paying up front whilst still within your lease period may actually work out cheaper. I have just hit 20k miles on my car, but have another 7 months of the lease left, I was resigned to the fact that based on current usage I'd be likely to another 8200 miles, returning the car with approximately 28k-29k miles. 28,000 mileage - 20,000 allowance = 8,000 miles over 8000 miles x 6ppm (7.2ppm inc VAT) = £576 mileage penalty A few weeks ago I had a letter from VWFS checking in on the current mileage, which I duly reported back. A week or so later I had another letter, somewhat stating the obvious that based on current usage I would exceed my mileage limit. Within this letter was the opportunity to ask for a new quote based on a new project mileage value, so I filled in the form, asked for a quote for 30k miles (15k/year) instead of the previously agreed 20k (10k/year) and sent it back. VWFS have subsequently offered me a new deal which costs £49/month extra for the remainder of the lease, which will be taken by direct debit over the final 6 months of the lease. Therefore for an extra 6 x £49 = £294, I have been given another 10k miles allowance, which would have cost me £576 if left unchecked. If you're going to exceed your mileage allowance, it's definitely worth dropping them an e-mail. Contact fleet.admin@vwfs.co.uk in the first instance advising of: VWFS Agreement Number Vehicle Registration Model Current Mileage You will receive a follow up e-mail from MileageAmendments@vwfs.co.uk at which point you will need to inform them of your new desired mileage, and confirm: Full Address & Postcode Current Monthly Payment Amount Length of Agreement A few days later you will get a new finance quote for the new desired mileage. There is no obligation to accept this new quote, accepting it requires a new signature and the agreement posting back to VWFS. At that point a £60 admin charge gets taken by Direct Debit, but overall will likely run cheaper than paying the excess mileage allowance. My excess mileage allowance for the new agreement also remains at 6ppm + VAT in the event I go over 30k miles, which is probably unlikely. Hope this helps. WW
