  1. Love the steering wheel. That's aftermarket right? Where did you get that from?
  2. Spotted these... https://www.motor1.com/news/180877/vw-golf-r420-spy-photos/ https://drivemag.com/news/vw-golf-r-tries-new-oval-tailpipes-on-the-nurburgring-do-we-hear-five-cylinders Could be nothing, it's a Mk7 with Mk7.5 tail lights, an RS3 exhaust and some big wheels. But if they did put the 2.5 RS3 Engine in a Golf R... 😍
  3. Update: So I emailed Alison Jones the director of VW UK. After a week, I had no reply at all. Not even an acknowledgment. So I forward my email to the big man, Matthias MΓΌller, VW AG CEO. I initially got a holding mail back saying they were liaising with VW UK and would get back to me. 5 days later, I get my reply last night... Apparently 3 door models only account for 9% of sales (seams low, I see more 3 doors than I do estates on which this tech is available, but hey) as such these tech options were omitted by the factory (again not convinced by this as the factory manage fine with 3 door models and all options for the left hookers) to reduce complexity. Can't say I see how putting the same camera behind the same windreseen is any more complex regardless of how many holes are in the body shell, but still! However they are pleased to announce that these options will be available for the UK from "early May as part of our Model Year updates". I suspect to coincide nicely with the addition of the 'Performance Pack'. This is probably why the dealers have these options in their systems and the discount sites e.g. orangewheels have them available when comparing prices. So there you have it, us '9 percenters' will be equal to our 5-door brethren very soon! πŸ€—πŸ‘ŠπŸ»πŸ‘πŸ» I'd to thank no one at all from VW UK, instead, just Danker mein Freund!
  4. It's kind of good news, but why the config and the brochures are different still baffles me! I've emailed the VW UK director, hopefully they'll repond, won't hold my breath.
  5. Well looking at configurator now and it's gone off the 3 door. On the 5 door you have two option packs that include dynamic light assist. This is would tie in with the price list document, that says in italic text, dynamic light assist is only available in conjunction with lane assist. Which isn't available on the 3 door. Therefore by default neither is dynamic light. I hope I'm wrong, I'm desperate to be! But according to VW website, it's not possible. So hopefully your dealer can better clarify.
  6. It gets better, you can't spec dynamic light assist on the 3 door either! So that's 3 pieces of tech that we're available on the Mk7 3 door but not the FL (4 if you count keyless) Madness!
  7. I've been on here a while taking it all in, but not posted much, got a bee in my bonnet on this one though! Had a Mk5 GTi Edition 30, Mk6 R and now a Mk7 R. Needless to say I'm quite interested in the facelift. All my cars have been 3 door, just me and the other half, so no need for 5 and I prefer the look. My 7R has the keyless, but they made this option available on the 5 door only afterwards, which hasn't changed for the FL. No idea why. Audi manage it quite well on the 3 door A3/S3. Same with Seat and the Leon. Now on the FL, lane assist, side scan assist (existing tech available on 3 door), traffic sign recognition, traffic assist, and rear traffic alert (new tech available for the FL) are only available on 5 door. Why?? At first I thought there might have been some unexplained reason like with the keyless, but no, it's available on 3 door cars on the continent. Just not in the UK. VW customer services replied to my enquiry by simply stating that VW UK only import them, it's VW AG who decide the specs for each market. Am I right in saying this is mostly software/coding as the hardware is already in for the adaptive cruise etc? Either way why would you go to the trouble and complexity of building cars with this tech only to arbitrarily keep it from arguably one of your most important markets. I realise everyone has a view on how useful/pointless some of these options are, but for me it's about 3 door buyers not being afforded the same ownership experience as those who choose 5 doors. I do a lot of miles and really like tech, so I'm an options ticker when I buy cars. Lots of chat about how the FL looks, but for me, in some respects at least, it's a step back from the car it replaces.
  8. Just got my stage 3 text this morning, how do I know what my build week is as the text and vw tracking website doesn't say. Do I have to call? Also, roughly how long is the wait once built?
  9. I didn't use orange wheels, but I did use their site to get a discount with my local dealer. They matched it. They were initially dubious, but once they figured out orange wheels price was in fact a main dealer price they quickly started playing ball!
