  1. Also, I remember seeing a post about an auto boot release notification when you press the boot unlock button. Has anyone done this? Can anyone recommend a system to use?
  2. Nearly 3 years to the day after I started this post I have taken delivery of my second R estate. Couldn’t figure out what to replace it with so got a better spec replacement. Question: > car play is not activated. Says I need an activation code. I’ve been in to two VW garages who have been useless, keep telling me to activate car net first (which I’ve done). What do I need to do, how much and can I do it myself?
  3. Anyone replaced an R estate with an R estste? Mine went back last summer and I’ve missed it ever since.
  4. Which one? The C5 is mega but so is he list of known problems. The C6 is hugely fast but a bit underwhelming to me. The C7 is motoring perfection for a family car. I'd love one but out of budget for me at present.
  5. Only seems like 5 minutes since I started this post and already my time with the Golf R Estate is nearly up, it goes back to the lease company next month. I have been racking my brain as to what can replace the R and I keep coming back to another R. For those who have moved on, what car did you replace your R with?
  6. Apologies if this has been posted previously but autocar spotted a facelifted R being tested at the ring last month. Link.
  7. Why is this the case? Waiting for the facelifted estate to come through?
  8. God, hope this isn't true. Reading comments above makes it all sound rather depressing. Think I may well have to keep my eyes peeled for a good 2nd hand buy and keep it for the next 10 years. I totally love it. What would the cost of an extended VW warranty look like (UK poster)?
  9. 9 months remain on my lease and I can't figure out what will replace it. After lots of thinking I reckon I will just get another as long as there are deals out there to be had (lease) or if the second hand market throws up some interesting 2yr old options. Consider I shall be keeping it can anyone recommend any roof bars? Would be good to see some Golf R's with roof boxes, bike racks etc.
  10. Even bigger praise from Mr. Harris earlier today:
  11. It has been been a long a time since my original post. My R XL ('extra long' as a friend calls it) has covered 12,000 miles now. Love love love it. The fake exhaust issue continues to wrangle me but it is what it is, hopefully this is addressed with the MK8. My lease is due next summer, head has started to think about the replacement and this side of an RS6 nothing jumps out. Toying with the idea of another R estate lease or buying a well spec'd second hand car and running it for a good number of years. Decisions decisions.
  12. Had my R estate since August 2015 and am still yet to see another on the road. Love it, truly wonderful car.
  13. Good to see this post still rolling on. I am 2,000 miles into ownership and absolutely loving it. The engine is loosening up brilliantly. I purchased a Rhino Cover (www.rhinouk.co.uk) which has been the only modification so far. I had a question: which roof bars should I get? Struggling to find the right information, don't know if the R has the same roof bars as a standard Golf estate. Ideally want bars that are as flat as possible to the roof.
  14. DSG is standard on the estate R.
  15. Aaarrrggggghahahahahahahahahaha. Brilliant. Made me laugh.
  16. Yes. My wife sits in the middle seat to feed the twins while driving. She has a slim build though.
  17. Good eyes. Yes, Mountain Buggy Duet. Brilliant for lugging two 8 months old around at ease.
  18. Dear god the Golf R Estate is a load lugging beast. Last weekend I loaded it up with the wife, twins and all the gear. Amazing car, swallowed everything and ploughed through the seriously damp Yorkshire conditions without fault. Tackled a very muddy field without issue and generally drew affectionate attention. LOVE IT.
  19. It arrived. Very happy with the red.
  20. OK, so I went to the local Swiss dealer and had a poke around their R Estate. Sadly the key was not available so outside shots only. Looked stupendous in the flesh.
  21. I'm currently in Switzerland, passing a local VW dealer yesterday I saw they had a Night Blue R Estate in stock. If I get time today I'll head back and have a poke around, get some pictures etc.
  22. Always enjoyed the Golf with a roof box. Looks so purposeful.
  23. That picture drove my decision. Sadly I don't have the Pretoria wheels but I am not too upset.
  24. It is a lease so to keep cost down it is base spec. Only decision I had to make was colour and I went for Tornado Red, the below picture sold me!. I would have gone for the 19" wheels and nav but I am not too fussed.
  25. Hello Cav. Like you I ordered mid May, was expecting a September/October delivery but according to the VW website it has been built already. I was very surprised.
