  1. 335d - if only - boots abit smaller than the Golf and our short journeys would probably cause a upsetting visit to a garage at some point as it’s a dirty diesel! S4 - I disregarded these as we can’t afford the post facelift - they are lovely though - Golf has a bigger boot also. I do have a saved search on autotrader for these - 2016>, less than 40k miles, less than 25k and no luck 😥
  2. They are lovely and the 40i engine is mega - I very nearly replaced my GTD with a M140i a few years back. The engine rules the whole experience and the M140i is still on the list of cars I want to own! I ended up keeping the Golf due to a change in commute at the time. The boot on the F31 is only 495 litres compared to the 605 litres of the Golf wagon, the in-coming child and dog makes me think the extra space over the BMW would be beneficial. I’m also abit wary about RWD and like the idea of the all weather ability with the Golf, we live in the SE but much of the area is rural. I appreciate all season tyres can go some way to giving the BMW some ability in poor weather but I think 4wd or FWD would better suit our circumstances!
  3. it is indeed- cheapest on autotrader is nearly £43000!
  4. Not under 30k enough unfortunately! They look lovely in Nardo grey (or what ever it’s called) The BMW 530d xdrive is just about coming into budget - we use these at work so lots of experience driving them - probably the ultimate in family transport (IMHO) but they don’t like short journeys, being a big diesel, and having seen the bills for DPF cleaning and replacement....... no thanks! The 540i on the other hand 🥴 but too many peso’s
  5. thanks for the pictures - car looks lovely! - we will definitely get some nuclear/ baby proofing for the rear and boot 😂 I can’t imagine the management will let me compete in many traffic light GP’s with a baby on board 😒
  6. Thanks all for the replies It was Penguin that suggested I get over to this forum after I asked the same question on the Briskoda Forum. (thanks again for your help) https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/483206-superb-272-sportline-vs-golf-r-estate/page/2/?tab=comments#comment-5427476 for those who asked for the link 👍 I am sold on the Golf, and having test driven both cars they are very different, I’m just trying to keep a open mind and get the right car for our circumstances and not just the car I really want! I know the Superb and the Golf are very different they just tick the boxes we have for the new car. The must haves = comfortable - big boot - petrol - not RWD - safe - reliable (I appreciate neither are E class comfortable) The would likes = dsg/ auto - 4wd (Happy with FWD though) Don’t wants = bouncy soft suspension (mrs suffers with car sickness in softly suspended cars) - less power than my current GTD I am open to suggestions, our budget is around 23k, we have considered the following- Octavia VRS - not much cheaper than the Golf - seemed to really lack the comfort of the Golf + Superb at motorway speeds with a big difference in road noise. Kodiaq - to bouncy - Sportline is out of budget - really not sold on SUV’s Mondeo 240 eco boost - getting towards abit soft - plasticy inside - gear box reliability - smaller boot Vauxhall insignia - it’s a Vauxhall (never again) Seat Leon Cupra ST - still a consideration - not really much cheaper than the Golf second hand and doesn’t look as premium inside - smaller boot Focus ST estate - new shape is abit expensive and the old shape is abit naff inside Older V8 German autobahn deztroyer - running and maintenance costs seem eye watering (RS4) Passat - very few 2 Litre petrols about and seem expensive next to the Golf. cheers all and thanks for your time
  7. Hello, I have directed to the forum by another member, we are due to become parents for the first time and are looking to replace my Mk7 GTD hatch with a more family friendly estate. We have narrowed down our search to the Skoda Superb Sportline 280 and the Golf R. I have already asked on a Skoda forum so here I am looking for the opinion of Golf R owners 😄 We will be looking to keep the car for 5+ years and It will be our main family transport. Baby will probably be followed by a second within our ownership of the car and will also need space for a hound (Spaniel). I appreciate the Superb is massive but it’s not a Golf R........ Heart says Golf - Head says Superb! which of the cars will best suit my needs? pros + cons or either/ both is their enough rear leg room in the Golf R estate for Baby seats (I’m only 5ft9) Help! thanks in advance and have a good weekend
