Mine has been fixed too with a recalibration and software update. 👍🏻
-
Mine is going in tomorrow re. the heated steering wheel button so will see how it goes!
-
Thank you for the update! I’ll get onto the dealership first thing Monday morning!
-
I’ve just noticed this has disappeared!! What the hell?! Can’t believe I didn’t notice this until now! You fix one issue and run into another! Back to the start we go! Can’t wait to get rid of this poxy car!!
-
Just had the new buttons fitted so will report back if it FINALLY fixes the issues after many months!
-
As long as when you arrive you tell them the issue with the paddles and that there is a TPI for the problem they should find it straight away like they did at my local dealer. 👍🏻

8.5R order thread - post your order up here!
TheJetMan replied to Booth11's topic in VW Golf R MK8 Chat
I’m really surprised with this news as when I picked up my R from Barnsley VW, they stated they FAR exceed their monthly sale quotas with the number of R’s they sell! I think the financial crisis means people are buying less cars this year than ever before! -
When I booked it in for a service I told them about the fault and the fact there was a TPI for it and they found the TPI no problem when it was with them. 👍🏻

Update - 18/12/2025 Vehicle was booked in today for its 12 month service and for the paddle issue. There is a TPI on the vehicle confirming software for the vehicle needs updating as well as the steering wheel modules needing to be replaced. Software was updated but as @Booth11 as stated, the modules are on back order with no ETA. Likely to be the new year.
-
No, so at the moment they have only booked it in for a “diagnostic”, but I’ve emailed the service manager the play of things and given him the service managers email who’s been dealing with my case who’s got all the details, including the TPI reference, so by the time it goes in, he should be up to speed

As my BMW M135 order has been delayed now until March 2026, I have booked my VW in for this to be done on the 17/12/25 so will update you on how it goes.
-
Oh yes, when it arrives I will sneak back into this forum under the cover of darkness and secretly post some handover photos!
-
“Yin and Yang” 🤣🤣 And no I haven’t, and sadly, despite all the work and chasing I’ve put into getting it sorted, I don’t think I’ll get a chance to see it through as my BMW M135 arrives in a couple of months and it takes that long to get a courtesy car appointment at my local dealer! I just hope the rest of you manage to get it sorted!

Met up with a friend who has the Mk 8 for a little drive and comparison! Both have the standard exhaust and his pops and bangs like crazy whereas mine…nothing. Both agree the exterior and interior on the 8.5 are definitely a step up!

Update - 08/10/2025 I have a significant update. News from my dealer. A massive "base-line" update /TPI was released for the Golf R in September 2025. The factory are saying this will fix the issue. They state if after the update the issue persists, the dealer needs to do a "manual check" on the software for the steering wheel buttons and look to replace the buttons if they have not updated. I do not unfortunately have any software or TPI reference numbers to give you as I am told this is for "internal use only", but I would advise getting your vehicle booked in to your local dealer to get the update installed and calling ahead, prior to the appointment, and speaking to the service manager to make sure they understand what is required so you don't waste your time.

Sorry to hear this happened to you. Absolute scum. Well done to you for investing in additional security though and I'm glad the police managed to get it back!
-
Hey Bud, Rest assured. I'm not letting this go! I contacted Mark Schofield (VW Doncaster Service Manager) yesterday asking for an update because the time VW said they would come up with an update has come and gone. He has stated he is going to chase the factory for me and let me know. Watch this space... Just a reminder to all, please make sure you make a complaint to VW financial services. They upheld my complaint and are standing by to offer a compensation package once they know how long the issue remains on my vehicle for...

Yeah I’ll keep the R until my new BMW M135 arrives in December! And thanks for your kind words! The R has a fantastic community behind it and when it works, it’s a cracking car! Just disappointed with the build quality and the number of issues I’m having even though it’s only 6 months old!
-
Nope! Went straight to order! I know it’s not going to be as fast as the R but I’m looking for something with a better build quality.
-
Thanks Rebecca! ☺️

Now have an "Error - Airbag" warning come up on the dash every time I start the car with a yellow airbag warning light to accompany it.... Final straw for me and VW. First the paddle issue, now this. M135 order put in.
-
Just hold fire bud. Everyone is in the same boat, including me. I’m still enjoying the car, it’s just an issue I have to accept until VW release the fix. Take the car. Make a complaint to VW financial services, and wait for the fix. (Should have an update in the next couple of weeks!)
-
It still baffles me that VW haven’t directly acknowledged the fault and that the left hand dosen’t know what the right hand is doing. Just as a reminder to all, make sure you report the fault to VW financial services as they upheld my complaint and are standing by with a compensation package once they know how long my car will remain with the fault. I am assured by the VW Barnsley service manager that VW (internally at least) are aware and a fix is in progress. I’ll update as soon as I have one!

Update - 23/06/25 Received a phone call from the service manager at VW Barnsley this afternoon. He was just updating me that he still hasn’t heard anything more yet, but it’s been around 4 weeks and was told he would hear something around the 6 week mark so should hear something in the next fortnight.

Its a fault in the steering wheel button module that is causing the paddles to become inop during driving.
