  1. Ive had a nightmare with mine, and have given up getting the fault sorted now. I had a new Mk8 R and my current Mk8.5 R from new, and on the basis of this paddle fiasco, and the way its been mis handled, ill never buy another VW
  2. Agree regarding quality of dealerships, it seems the bar is lower than it used to be, im more surprised these days when something goes according to plan without any major hassle....that used to be considered the bare minimum. Whilst I dont doubt what your neighbour is saying, my take would be if they don't have either the equipment or personnel to perform the task, they shouldn't take the job on, and save everyone's time. I concede there's exceptions to that, if its some tiny dealership in the middle of nowhere then fair enough, they may not be fully kitted out, but id class Altrincham as a fairly big site, probably 200 cars on site and a big workshop. There's no excuse really for a multi billion pound company like VAG group to not provide their dealers with the right equipment and training to look after the product they sell.
  3. Yeah this is the frustration, its fairly clear what needs to be done, ive explained to them the issue and the fix, and said I fully understand you'll probably need to do some box ticking/authorisation process..so its not like ive steamed in and kicked off expecting it fixed on the spot, fully expected to have to jump through a couple of hoops to get there..... but its like pulling teeth.
  4. No nothing whatsoever been changed or updated in any way, 3 visits in. Thus far... 1st visit they held their hands up and said we agree its faulty, recreated the fault on the test drive. But they said they don't know what to do about it (this was after I fully filled them in that they should lodge a technical enquiry with vw, as everything ive seen (on here) points to it being a software and or paddle module issue) 2nd visit (2 days) they plugged the car in and sent off to VW technical asking for instructions on what to do, didn't get a reply by the end of day 2 so told me they'd need to re book me 3rd visit (2 days) the re booking for update.... Dropped the car off at 7 am around 830 am the car was moved from one side of the car park to the other, never went in the workshop, it then sat there till 230 pm the following day, untouched. When I rang up to ask why nothing is happening, they told me they tried to update it, and when they opened the file VW had sent it was empty, and again, id need to re book.. Wonder how long they'd have kept it if I hadn't chased....useless dealership
  5. Yes possibly so, im just out of patience with it now, there's no thought of the hassle involved, the time out of work etc running a car back and forth to achieve nothing, service department doesn't seem to care either. One thing I can say for sure, it'll be my last VW, based off firstly the faults, but equally how inept the dealer network seems to be.
  6. Think im giving up getting mine sorted now, either live with it or reject it. Just come back from another 2 days at vw altrincham, noticed nothing was happening with the car on the tracker, they say they cant do the update as when they open the file its blank. Simply not got time to keep running a car between my work and Altrincham to be no further along. Its the 3rd dealer visit for the issue and so far they've achieved zero
  7. Indeed...they told me they've consulted UK Technical, and they have escalated it. Meaning it gets referred to Germany. They said one of my modules is showing an issue, but they can't perform the PV4? update, without permission, for fear it "messes up other modules" which is less than reassuring. VW have really dragged their feet on this, there's no excuse for there not to be a definitive/simple fix process for the issue rolled out to dealers. There's enough cars affected for them to know what fixes it and what doesn't.
  8. No, just an update. Ive been and collected the car now, without any update, as they said they won't hear back for about a week, so I saw no point leaving it there parked up, plus they gave me a 1.0 T cross as a courtesy car which I didn't fancy using over the easter weekend!
  9. Mine went in for an oil service yesterday and for them to look at this paddle issue. Cars now still at the dealer waiting for guidance from VW technical about performing a big software update Service manager says he can't say when VW will get back to him, and its not possible to chase an inquiry with vw technical. Going to give it until tomorrow and pull it out of there, not leaving it at a dealer indefinitely.
  10. Has this fixed the problem then? Im keen to get it sorted but don't want to attempt getting it in before there's a known fix Thanks
  11. How did you go about getting any action out of VW financial? Ive contacted them twice now over the course of 3 weeks, and other than the automated "we've received your message" email, ive had nothing. Tbh im getting closer to just wanting rid of it now, whilst im sure its a 1st world problem to some, its destroying the ownership experience for me. I drove my Mk8 R using paddles 99.9% of the time, and i just cant do it with this 8.5. The way VW have ignored the problem is disgusting tbh. Its a shame as its a fantastic car, not without its issues, but I can live with the others Creaky/rattles in the dash...not bothered Noisy ABS pump when turning and braking at slow speed....not fussed I can live with it (doesn't do it if you turn the TC fully off btw) But this paddle issue, and the lack of any support is killing it for me.
  12. Has anything materialised from the dealer saying the patch is due? (Or overdue now) As time goes on,and nothings being resolved, its got the hallmarks of a problem VW hope people get bored of complaining about and go away!
  13. Yes same here, its not mode dependent, it refuses manual shifts full stop...its just i only really (used to!!) bother with the paddles in Race. Definitely dragging their feet, which like you say, makes me think its not just a software update and you're sorted.
  14. Yes im beginning to think it might just stop working all together. Its not as if im trying to get it to do it either, as youll see from my earlier posts, I actually stay away from M more than ever, due to how annoying I find the issue. Ive taken to just driving round in comfort for 99% of the time, so as not to wind myself up about it!
  15. Had a new iteration of the paddle issue this morning on the way into work.... Came off the motorway onto the A road section of my commute, put it in Race, pulled the paddle to switch to M, didn't get anything at all. Stuck in S/Auto shifts. First time its ever done that, you'd normally at least get some manual shifts before it kicks you out... varying from 10/15 minutes to the 10 seconds I experienced last week (which again, was the 1st instance of it denying Manual mode in such a short time frame) Seems to me the problem is getting worse and definitely more frequent, id occasionally get the odd full journey where it wouldn't play up at all.... haven't managed that in weeks now. Its a 1st world problem i know, but really starting to put me off the car, the fix (if there even is one coming) is taking way too long
  16. Unusually yesterday, id been driving for about 20 minutes with the box in auto/comfort mode... decided to switch to Race/ M...within 30 seconds the gearbox denied any manual shifting. Normally id get somewhere between 10 to 20 minutes of Manual shifts before it goes up the wall. Don't know if this is common or not, 1st time its done it in that manner to me.
  17. I wonder where we stand if VW don't come up with anything to resolve this issue. Even though its a 1st world problem its really spoiling the enjoyment of the car for me, I had a MK8 R before the 8.5 and I drove it almost exclusively using the paddles, in the 8.5 im finding i just don't bother, as i find it infuriating when it locks you out of manual shifts, sods law also means its usually as you just hit a nice piece of road that you want to have some fun on, and I don't enjoy the auto shifts, even in race/race+ etc. I've raised the question about rejecting the car, and am awaiting a response, however I really really don't want to hand it back. Here's hoping they actually sort it, as so far im not filled with confidence.
  18. Good stuff....this was just starting to really bother me again. I've been communicating with VW customer services, however I'm just getting the run around. If there's a ballpark time frame then that's a positive.
  19. Good stuff.... I came back on here to see if anyone had managed to get it fixed yet, I've heard nothing so far.
  20. I've had a response now from the dealer as follows... They have forwarded the findings onto the technical team, who have confirmed they have seen a growing number of cases with the same symptoms. They are currently working on a software update (not hardware as initially thought) They'll be in touch once it's ready to roll out
  21. Yes exactly, it's like pulling teeth with them...I understand they have procedures to follow, and I get it, I do at work...but the whole thing could have been made a lot slicker.... They've told me the report will now be sent to VW.... I've absolutely no doubt I'll end up chasing them up in a few weeks having heard zero from them.
  22. So...back in for the 2nd visit... to actually get a technical enquiry logged after them refusing last time. Only to turn up to be told I hadn't booked a courtesy car when I 100% had. Left, after kicking up a bit of a stink about it, arrived at work, to then get a phone call to say, they've listened to the recording of the call from when i rebooked, and yes I had requested a courtesy car. So then had to return to the dealer to get them to file the report. Absolute circus...if they'd have just done what i asked the last time the car was in, this shambles of a visit wouldn't have been necessary.I'm up to about 5 hrs wasted and god knows how much in fuel now...all to just get them to log it with VW.
  23. Further update on this. I contacted VW customer care yesterday, explained what had happened at the dealers, and their reluctance to lodge a technical enquiry. I'm now rebooked for the 14th so they can lodge one... whilst im glad I'm finally being listened to, it's still a load of hassle getting down there...then going back for it a few hrs later... Why they couldn't have just done this yesterday I've no idea.
  24. Yes it's very disappointing....essentially in layman's terms...they are saying...yes it's faulty...we don't know how to sort it...or when we will be able to sort it...but yet they still take the full money each month don't they.
  25. Yep certainly sounds like it....welcome to the club
