Morning! I fear that I may be at the start of the end of my clutch! Driving home from shopping saturday I felt a bit of slip in 4th gear. Revs went up by about 200-300 before speed increased. Was about half-throttle at the time. Had family in the car, got home and then went out for a "test drive" on my own. On a dual-carrigeway with plenty of 4th gear pulls at WOT, I wasnt able to reproduce the issue. Not in 4th or any other gear. So thought maybe I was imaginging things the 1st time. Later that day out again and joining a motorway in 4th at 3/4 thorttle it again seemed to slip about 200-300 rpm. (From around 3800 - 4100) So in the 1 day I had 2-3 instances of what I precieved to be clutch slip. Not sure it makes any odds, but I had my car serviced last Thursday. Inspection/Oil Change/Filter/Haldex. Also a recall was carried out on the Handbrake. To me, none of that should affect the clutch? I of course did the usual and started googling. Found plenty of reports of clutches going (As I already knew that from various topics). Seems I have got futher than a lot of people! Some going as low as 5k-6k. I am on 27k now. Also brough up several opinions on what to do about. Seems there where 3 schools of though: 1.) Fight with VW and try to get replacement on warranty. (Seems dealer really needs to be on your side for this work. Some success stories found though) 2.) Suck it up and replace with an after-market unit. (Seems for driavbility the most recommend is the Sachs Organic.) 3.) Weirdly on some reports "driving gently" for 500-1000 miles made the issue disappear? I am not sure I can be bothered with #1. Especially if at the end its just going to be the same weak clutch. But wont rule it out. For number 3 I guess I can try this? But I did read some stories that driving with a sliping clutch can cause damage to other parts? So not sure if I should? For number 2 is where I could do with some advice. I can find the parts to buy, seems they run to about £550~. But I am not a handy man. So going to need this fitted. Has anybody had this done and mind sharing an "all-in" price? (Parts / labour etc?) Also, Ideally does anybody have any recommendations for an Indy that could do this work? I am based near Camberely, Surry. I have found www.thephirm.co.uk, not sure if anybody has used / can recomend them? My car is completely stock currently. Always been put off any power mods because of the clutch. So upgrading it and perhaps getting a light tune once warranty is up does appeal. As always, apprecaite thoughts / tips / stories!
