  1. To the original poster, If you are still going down the manual R route. The box is fine, sharp and precise. Well mines is anyhow. Both gearboxes offer different aspects to the indviduals choice, I test drove both gear boxes but decided DSG wasnt for me and i dont regret it. The ACC works with manual so the outcome is not different to DSG. Where the difference lies is just simply you match the chosen speed in ACC to the current gear/speed you are in rather than the mechatronics box. The method may differ slightly but the outcome of intent is the same Each gearbox allegedly has some issues. As i have no facts of DSG then i wont choose to speculate but i can as a Manual owner clarify that mines remains fault free and having owned several VAG fast cars, this box is as good as any I've driven. There is suggestion of some having issue with manual 1st/2nd changeover but this is speculative and has no absolute basis of fact across all manual boxes or owners. I can confirm that as a manual owner who has never felt or witnessed this issue since driving out the dealership that you have to avoid Myth and Legend. In the end your choice of gearbox will be the right one... Happy finding whatever car it turns out to be
  2. Fruity I don't see you deny that your post had little to do with original post and was flaming in its approach.
  3. And by this is what I mean by over your head 1. Bringing up the M v DSG again when the OP was nothing to do with it. Can't hide the Bias! 2, Sweeping generalisation of manual users into silence of woodwork and denial. Rollocks!! 3. Speak to two salesmen so that makes it matter of fact. Ridiculous!! And for all the reasons I chalkenged this you still think u are on high ground. Coffee's On!! To add NO one was challenging DSG and I simply answered this nonsense post of arrogance. Yes intellect has gone down I fear. Stick with Kinder surprise facts in the parallel universe of absolute truths This post should have been locked long before now when this typical nonsence shows its ugly biased head
  4. Whoosh over thy head but hey you found the kinder egg salesmen. Good for you Fruity So just to clarify all the salesmen in the whole country are VW R "fanatics" And all of them without doubt are NOT there to flatter your ego or sell you a lesser Golf or whatever. Hook line and sinker.... Oh and I didnt bring up the DSG v Manual thing as OP has nothing other than a question about 1st/2nd gear change of MANUAL. WHO slipped it in again and suggested woodwork and silence? Such arrogance! The unveiled bias of the few. I merely as a manual owner point out to original poster that it isnt fact that 1st/2nd changeover is an issue across the sweeping generalisation of manual boxes. The poster can and hopefully rightly be assured that if the issue is there it can be resolved by remedial action So sorry but Rollocks and Ridiculous indeed
  5. Yeah the obvious route, hope you get a satifactory solution. I certainly have no issue with my own gearbox or any gear selection and its fine. One swallow doesn't make a summer so don't read that all manual gear changes 1st/2nd are doomed by others and 2nd hand informers....
  6. Fish nae hook Theyll be a rare animal across the cars salesman populace so NO i dont think its general sweeping there whatsover but believe who u want to believe and move on Although would be interesting to know how many are on here that actually are VW or salesmen. NO i did not say no place for them if they directly wish to comment from fact.(but make it up that i did) But i won't listen to a fact to 2nd hand "even the salesman stuff" REALLY no bias and plumping up of the customers ego. Sorry
  7. Agreed I would hold no opinion of a salesman telling me they wouldnt buy a manual R beause of 1st/2nd gear change as matter of fact, or the manager or whoever. They are there to sell cars, flatter ego, agree with you, tailor your thinking etc, agree with next customer in totally the opposite opinion. Then he jumps into his garage provided Golf 1.2 company car (whatever) and some hold them as sellers of truth. REALLY Sorry NO weight here. The forum & tinternet highlights good and bad. Not all of us (Manuals) are having 1st/2nd issues but i understand some might. Dont over cook the pudding,,, Therefore its NOT a common problem across the board and nothing to do with raising another Manual v DSG crap suggestion
  8. No denials, no woodwork and coffees ON. And this AINT a Manual v DSG thread....... Driven many VAG manuals and the R is just as good as any before and NO i dont have any issues with 1st to 2nd gear change in my own R and its just fine... As for Garages and salesman opinion (cause they must be right),they are just ON whatever you say to seem interested, "I've heard", "Yeah others say that" etc and its all crap. They hold NO opinion, frankly rarely are as up to speed as buyers and consumers and agree with whatever you want to hear.....
