  1. Hi Don Not fully understanding the blinding effect, I didnt mention this? Sat in the driver’s seat of the 6.1 the cornering lights are nearly invisible due to the more powerful and wider spread of the manufacturers LED headlights, this is with the upgraded (White high powered) halogen fog light bulbs. there is a little more light on the floor but turn onto a tight side roads etc it doesn’t make much / any difference. Might be different of the MK7 Golf R as the bulb is in the main cluster, and higher 🙂 Good luck to OP hope he gets it sorted. KR Darren
  2. I feel your pain..... I think owning a high performance car now includes replacing wheels regularly. I would go down to 18s but this would knock out the speedo accuracy which is brilliant on my 2020 MK7.5 and the same as the GPS on my phone =/-1mph. Also the car looks so much better with the 19" wheels. So Far in 5 years of ownership: 2 replacement prets @£1000 each, 3 tyres, 4 slightly bucked prets, 1 cracked REVO and 3 slightly buckled REVO's
  3. Assuming you have Mk7? As the 7.5 has the inbuilt cornering light in the main cluster or mine does. I changed the bulbs in my Transporter T6.1 as these have LED headlights and the halogen fogs looked a little strange and old next the LED's I spent quite a bit of time researching this on the transported forums and you could get the LED retrofit lights but these would not fade in or out which assume it the same technology you have. In the end I went for the Osram premium bulbs which don’t look that far different from the LED;s or Xenon. The irony is the LED’s are so powerful that you don’t see the cornering lights very much but looks so much better
  4. Hi Guys Just a daft question, where do you get your black cover caps from for the wingmirrors? I can see these are around £180 from VW and there are sevral options on line for aftermarket. Not sure if the aftermarket all come from the same manufacturer as the prices varies from £20 - £100 Any recommendations to go with my repainted black wheels would be very much appreciated Darren 🙂
  5. Yesterday I was looking at the MK8.5 Estate (Or trying too) on the VW website after considering time for an upgrade (while wrestling with my own conscience on waiting for the possible arrival of the 2.5L - 5-cylinder Golf R in 2027) As this was missing from the VW site and after a bit of googling it appears to have been removed from the current model line-up. Apparently according to the web, the Golf Estate has been dropped to concentrate on the dog ugly ID7 Tourer which I don’t think sells ( Haven’t see many) and looks like a Peugeot IMO Understand this is not everybody’s taste but is the ultimate sleeper and Dad wagon. What a shame, inside 12 months VW has removed the Iconic transporter and replaced with a Transit Van and now the Golf R estate. Might have to spend some money and keep my MK7.5 a little longer 😊
  6. Be careful. there are several variants of blue chrome powder dependant on manufacturer and if you’re looking for the OEM look then please check. From memory there was a post about this some time ago on here with the closest match. Probably best ask for pictures of previous work. (Golf R's with Prets normally get photos from the wheel refurbishment so a reputable refinisher will have these) Good luck hope it works out for you 🙂
  7. Cool, thanks. Will have a look at this,. Appreciate your time 🙂
  8. Hi Guys I know this is more of a VW thing than Golf R ( I have a bit of an obsession with the brand lol) if you don’t mind your advice but looking to get a programmer / fault code reader for VW's, it would be cool to use this on my R but also need something that will read accurately faults our engineers Transporters, Caddy’s and my MK7.5 Golf R. I understand most of the VW OBD programmers have licences per vehicle which are expensive and that could be just out of reach with 7 Vehicles (And an Audi) so any advice on which product would possible program one or more and read faults accurately from all the vehicles would be very much appreciated. Thanks 😊
  9. Thanks, very much appreciated, will check this now. I was going to get them Powdercoated as we are lucky that we use a local powder coater all the time for work. Fingers crossed these will not corrode the same 😉
  10. I live about 11 miles from the coast, and the car has done 45K and washed regularly along with rinsing under the car to remove road salt. Sadly, I didn’t realise how much damage Bilt Hammer Auto wheels could do (I am convinced this is what’s caused the damage) , it also corroded the wheel bearings on our caddy pool van. Don’t get me wrong the product is amazing at removing the burnt on black spots but has also caused surface corrosion on the bottom of the electronic dampers and suspension parts. I have a bit of a task ahead of me cleaning this up and respraying. Also concerned as the rear bearings are sounding grumbly (Although I need new tyres so could be this). Might change the bearings at the same time to be 100% sure
  11. Hi Guys Just trying to source replacement brake rain / dust guards for the rear 2020 MK7.5. Do you have any recommendations, or it best to just stick with OEM from the main dealers. Sadly, mine after 5 careful years are looking a little rusty (I think Bilt Hammer Auto wheels might not have helped lol) Any advise or part numbers would be very much appreciated. As the originals started rusting after 12 months that i might get these powdercoated to protect them. Please don’t criticise the brakes, I am getting new Brembo Disks and Pads at the same time as these have done surprisingly well after 3 years
  12. Thanks for the picks, these look very cool especaly the multispoke wheels. My better half has a S3 with 19's on and she hasn't had any problems with her wheels in the last 18 months. Maybe Audi wheels are stronger. I miss the Revo's they improved the look of the car. I suppose the cost of 4 Revo's is not that much more than 1 Pret I might just give them a go again 🙂
  13. The Revo's are flow formed but guessing these are no stronger than the Prets. I would go for 18's but assuming this will through the speedo out and if I'm being honist I spent a very long time finding my car with the Prets and DCC It feels like going backwards lol.
  14. Hi Guys Having had Revo RFO19's on for the last 2 years it transpires these were not as strong as Revo mentioned which was a little disappointing lol and having decided to go for a change of colour recently, sadly 3 wheels were buckled and 1 cracked 😞 so I'm on the quest again for some new wheels that are as discreet as the car. I managed to superimpose pictures of the bola wheel on my car but interested in opinions. Forged is the way forward, but getting the 5K past the boss is not going to happen, so looking for flow formed wheels that will last lol (And look good)
  15. Thanks Ian, gives me a direction to invesitgate. Will look into the uprated bushes.
  16. Hi All I hope you're are well and looking forward to Christmas 😉 Having decided a don’t like the new MK8.5 enough to spend that much money on one. My 2020 estate is suffering from creaking and groaning from what I think is the top mounts and the car is crashing over bumps (Not helped by PS4S). Which is a direct result of me using the car properly on the “B” roads around were I live lol. It would be cool to refresh the suspension to make this more supple and feel like a new car again. I have asked my local mech if he could do this and sense a reluctance to mess with the DCC and to be fair he’s a great mech and does a brilliant job with our vans, but knows how much I love the car and get the impression he keeps avoiding this …. Does anybody have recommendations for a decent specialist in the North East (Teesside) who could replace the parts and do a really good job. I don’t want to take this to VW as the cost would be alarming and think I would get a better job elsewhere. Also, if you had the option, what would you replace with aftermarket or keep this standard VW parts? Happy with the original ride height, just hate noise as the car crashes and bangs over bumps lol. Very much appreciate any suggestions
  17. My very bad wheel company tried to paint the centre caps and made such a mess I gave up on them, I have VW caps now which are spurious and look a little cheesy.
  18. I love the Prets and miss seeing these on the car every day. Although don’t miss driving around looking out for every pothole which sort of spoils driving such a great car. I not a fan of black wheels but am seriously considering going black and keeping the Revo's
  19. Found a picture with MK7.5 with the Adelaide wheels, not an estate but gives a good impression. I quite like them, what do you think? Are CM wheels still OK as the only options for OEM is ebay Germany 2k for used wheels and that’s going to be expensive to return if there not described correctly?
  20. I did try the blue chrome when I first got the Revo wheels last year, which was part of my cunning plan, I got the wheels £300 cheaper in bronze and got them recoated, the company (with very good reviews) did a horrendous job, just painted over the original wheels and the lacquer didn’t set so I ended up with a pink hue and my money back lol. The blue chrome they used was the slightly darker blue chrome and didn’t suit the colour of the car, the spokes on the Prets are angled so the light shines of spokes and gives that cool chrome effect which makes these lighter and look great. The Revo wheels have flat spokes and the colour looked flat and dull apart from the rims which are bright and the 2 look a bit strange together. I will comment that the Revo wheels (on the recommendation from you guys) have been brilliant, I took the Prets off the car as the B roads around were I live at are very poor and I kept damaging them, the Revo wheels have been very robust, the only issue is the offset, which makes the wheels stick out more and curbed 2 in the first few weeks lol
  21. Has anybody got these on a MK7/7.5 was considering these as the Revo wheels I have are great but just fancy a change. Iridium Grey is a bad colour for wheels as most of the dark silver / gunmetal wheel look to close to the colour of the car (look colour matched) and bright silver which I have is a bit shouty.
  22. Thanks Both, will look into getting this installed, finger crossed my local mech will do it as he has ramps. The roads were we live around are all "B" roads which is great for driving but very damaging to the car and the wheels lol. Gutted that the underneath is going rusty so quickly, especaly as I always give the underside a quick jet wash to get the salt off.
  23. Hi Guys, Just got car back from my local mech who has just replacement my front pads for me. He mentioned that there was a lot of corrosion on the underside of the car. nuts bolts around the engine, oil sensors and other bits. Which is a bit suprising as the car is only 4 years old and I don’t do much mileage. He also said this car doesn’t have a full cover underneath this, just around the front? Not that i have spent any time under the golf (Prefer driving) and leave the servicing to VW and important bits to my local mech. Could does anybody have any pictures of the underneath of the car as I have had this before when a garage has forgotten to put the undertray back after a service. Or is this just open to allow more cooling for the engine? Thanks Darren
  24. I have just swapped from the original Contact Sport 6 (2 full sets of over 3 years) to PS4S recently and the grip in the wet is much better, but these are noisy and the ride is much more harsh. Wife has just had Conti Sport 7's fitted on her 2005 TT and she loves them, quiet and much more grippy.
