  1. any one aware of any detailing Deals around at present? I feel the need for a winter project, so lets develop some new skills...... Thanks in advance... The other Neil....
  2. I give up...... I have been back and forth across the site and the edit my profile page and I cannot seem to find the page or function where I can add a Signature and evidence my horrific car choices down the ages.... Am I missing something obvious? is it a tenure or permissions thing and I have not yet paid my dues...... Thanks in advance for any guidance... The other Neil
  3. Hey Boothy, Can you recommend a specific product for Bug removal.... some of the critters I have picked up this summer are proving really stubborn to remove. I saw many detailers at Goodwood Revival using Megs waterless wash and wax which seemed to do a good job of "dissolving" the critters. Clearly that products is a finishing / wax and go type product to be used on cars that are already largely clean... puzzled! Cheers Neil
  4. Hey Boothy, The pics of the 6 show off your detailing skills very well indeed. I like little photography too, coincidentally I am a Canon fan and have a 5D mk3, I have just bought a 7D mk2, EF-L 70-200 f2.8 IS, EF-L 24-70 f2.8, EF-L 16-35 f2.8 and a few other bits and bobs. Fave accessory is the Polarising Filter to remove reflections, deepen colours, contrast and show off interiors. I am often found at Goodwood FOS, Revival and Silverstone Classic taking a few snaps...... I also taking pics of flying machines and visited Duxford this year for the 75th anniversary of the D-Day Parachute drop..... C47 Skytrains and DC3 Dakotas en masse...... goosebumps!! I shall see if I can rustle up a few pics to share... hopefully no files size limit as they can be big files
  5. interesting Paul, it may also be a case of the road types and surfaces on UK roads which are in most cases shockingly bad, almost dirt tracks full of bomb holes.
  6. Most of my driving is A and B roads cross country and in Race Mode with DCC the car is fidgety as hell and uncomfortable on the PZero's. So Race mode is for blasting passed others cars or having some afun, otherwise I am in Eco or Comfort and just chillin.... The car go from mild mannered Klark Kent to feckin Superman in no time at all..... infectious....
  7. still valid and applicable today Col. i came from Auto's and CVT so perhaps have a slight opposite lock of a gear change behaviours to address. Many thanks Neil
  8. Hi Dave, Lets be clear the last couple of cars I have owned have all been automatics and family buses..... so a manual is something of a novelty, especially in DSG format. So I am still exploring the cars functions, capabilities and my limitations (Dirty Harry reference)... 😉 Economy is like overdrive and shifts to higher gears earlier, reduces revs and therefore in some small way improves the MPG. I generally get 34-36MPG on a 120mile commute cross country. Race Mode absolutely hangs on to gears and revs and therefore has the opposite effect. Haven't done enough miles under semi- controlled conditions to measure the impact/result. so cannot qualify the mpg impact However absolutely the car in Race Mode will send even the slightest road surface deg through into the car, especially if its short sharp defects. My commute is A and B roads and far from perfectly flat black top, I even dodge the bigger potholes having seen so many buckled and cracked Pretoria's on Ebay commanding stupid money. However with DSG, DCC and Akro, the car in race mode really tenses up and reacts when you stamp on the loud pedal. And I don't know how it does it, like in plans too... but almost every time I am in full throttle overtaking mode the exhaust "pops/farts" just as I pass the other car! go figure, puts a stupid grin on my face every time.😎 I previously had a 150BHP chipped TDI MK4 with full Recaro, Full Oettinger bodykit, exhaust and wheels. Again another dealer principles black beauty; that flew too! It seems Black, High Spec, High Power Golf's are my Unicorn (gone in 60 seconds ref) Have a great weekend guys Neil (the other Neil)
  9. I had a proper #codebrown on my 2nd day of ownership, rounding a corner on a fast bit of 2 lane in a 50limit over taking some sheeople out for a Sunday drive, and damn if there wasn't a camera van at the side of the road. Slammed the anchors on and shed speed as fast as possible.... thankfully no letter in the post since then have been using WAZE app on the phone which gives some warning of Cameras and Mobile units. As regards loosening up, hell yeah and race mode livens things up a bit. So with my car in Race Mode, DCC firmed up and Akro on fullchat, the car properly farts and pops on change up and change downs. Its addictive! now starting to experiment with manual mode more..... All the beast Neil (the other one)
  10. Hi Rebecca,

I have just found your flickr link at the bottom of one of your responses to my intro post.

Firstly the endless stream of pictures of your car dirty, being washed, washed and then sparkling...… looks awesome.

Then the one shot of a OCD shed full of every imaginable cleaning product known to the mankind all neatly arrange in labelled plastic boxes... I am ashamed, I feel inadequate.. 😂

I still have a lot to learn.

    Kind regards

    Neil (the other one)

      Hi Neil,

      Your new R looks stunning!

Thanks very much for the compliments on my R.  I do like a bit of detailing!  😁

Ah, yes, my Detailing Shed!  Rather OTT and OCD but what the hell!  It was supposed to be a rebuild of an old garden shed but once finished, I commandeered it for my own Black Beauty’s needs!

The plastic boxes are used for storing things like towels, mitts, microfibres, etc in a dust free environment as outside sheds gets dusty, so it keeps them free of swirl inducing dust.

Detailing is addictive so beware!  But if you have a black car and you like to keep it looking it’s best, then be prepared to stare down the slippery slope!  😂 But it’s very rewarding too.

There’s loads of great info in the detailing section on the forum, and if there’s any advice you need just shout.  One thing I would recommend with a black car if you live in a hard water area, is to invest in a DI water filter, if you don’t already have one.   If you have soft water then I envy you!

      Enjoy your R!

      Bec

lots of info on the detailing section. mmmm now let me think who authored most of the content.... 🤔🤔

Thanks Bec have a great weekend

  11. cheer Neil we shall take over the world!!!..... Already having a little fun, had a little dice with a guy in a Jaguar E-Pace EV400 of all things. Damn those EV's can shift. Bumper Film, is that PPF just on front bumper, rear too? how's that holding up? All the best Neil (the other one)
  12. Hi Friends, here are a couple of pictures of Black Beauty... Enjoy and I welcome comments or feedback. Br Neil
  13. Hi friends, Rebecca nailed it, you try and do best for what is the most expensive Golf on the face of gods earth and the VW Dealership bugger it up instead. Yeah a dual action polisher is on the last plus a Detailer on speed dial in case I mess it up. Also I get double bubble outta the Polisher, I am sure it will work on my head too..... 😇 And as regards Paul's observation that VW are only selling Golf R''s to folks called Neil, well Neil in Gaelic is Champion.... nuff said! 🤣 Take care friends. N
  14. Hi Neil, Rebecca, Dave and Paul. thanks all for the warm welcomes. Currently my car is running "original" Pirelli P Zero 235/35/19 91Y according to the Dealer. These have close to 20k on them and based on your kind advice Michelin PS4s will be fitted in the coming month. Paul G our friend from NZ asked for some pictures which I shall load once sorted. However there is a story; the car looked like a "diamond in a goats ass" on collection and remained so for 2 weeks before I gave the R its first 2 bucket snow foam clean. After which pretty much every panel had ghosting, cloudy finish and or horrific swirl marks. I had opted for the Autoglym Lifeshine package which on closer inspection appeared to have been applied by Stevie Wonders Guide using an angle grinder...... A few weeks of negotiation with the Dealership resulted in a cash settlement; needless to say throughout they never contested the matter, cause or responsibility. 🤔 I then found a detailer and after 4 days of work the #TheBossofGloss gave me back a mirror shine Black Pearl, argh jim lad (couldn't resist a Pirates of the Caribbean ref) and I am once again in love with my car. To be clear I haven't had Autoglym re-applied after that experience and I am now considering PPF for the front instead. I hear ya Dave on the rear rotors and will focus on new pads instead. Although on closer inspection the rears are showing uneven wear, so will check with the dealership and see what they say. More later friends, and importantly pic's! Neil
  15. PHEZY, why did you choose Michelin PS4S? How are you getting on with them? I am just about to change the tyres on my R. I look forward to hearing from you. best of luck and enjoy. Neil
  16. Hi R Owners, and those considering taking the plunge.... justdoit! I finally acquired my R in March having missed a few in the south and finally found the ideal...ish car up North. Black 5dr, DSG, Race Pack, Black Pretoria, Carbon Leather, 90tints, DCC, Akro Exhaust Its low wide mean and stealthy Near terms plans are new rubber around and beefier rear brakes.... all recommendations gratefully received or direction to recent posts on the forum pages. All the beast...😎 Neil
