I wonder if the owner of the car is a member of this forum....🤔...

This video is disturbing! https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thesun.co.uk/motors/10387118/six-year-old-race/amp/

Harry Metcalfe posted the following stats on twitter which are very worrying for all us R owners: https://mobile.twitter.com/harrym_vids/status/1195088538959851524?ref_src=twsrc^tfw|twcamp^tweetembed&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fd-29844395793530583371.ampproject.net%2F1911070201440%2Fframe.html

I prefer the look of 18 inch Cadiz wheels to 19 inch Prets in black or silver despite so many others preferring the Prets. Who cares what anyone thinks as long as you like them!
-
Looks great and a good price. Good luck!

Love the E46 as well Shakeel (just not with the SMG box at the time)! Let's enjoy these naturally aspirated large capacity engines before the whole world goes electric and hybrid☹
-
The E92 M3 is one of my favourite cars of all time. The sound of that V8 from 5000 revs......spine tingling!!!
-
Lol about the looks😁 I borrowed a friend's FK2 for 3 weeks and although it was tremendous fun to drive when you are in the mood for some fun, the rest of the time it got on my nerves. Especially the ride quality or lack of it. The R is a much more rounded car that ticks far more boxes for me.

Happy for the point scoring to end. However I stand by my earlier point that you really need to drive both the manual and the DSG to from a vaild and balanced opinion and avoid the danger of any potential 'buyer regret' which Shakeel seemed to have to some degree initially.
-
If you can't even be bothered to answer the question then it's a no then....😁
-
Is that a yes or a no?
-
Really? Have you even driven a manual R? If you haven't how can you give a valid and balanced opinion? The same goes to anyone else who loves their DSG so much that they feel that there is no need to even drive the manual....
-
And Manual drivers have longer sticks and don't have their hands on flaps all the time...

I certainly have nothing to prove Dave. I really enjoyed driving a DSG for 18 months, it is a great car, however I missed a manual box! Of course drag times, lap times etc are all largely irrelevant to most of us (as long as the car is fast enough). Modern hot hatches are so capable and competent that most of us will get nowhere near their limits on a public road or even a track. Therefore the 'debate' is largely theoretical and of course a bit of banter as well. I have noticed that the DSG gearknob is slightly larger that that for the 6 speed manual. All you DSG drivers will have to factor in the extra 100 grams into your driving style😂😂

That is a good point about the Trophy R as that currently holds the record and costs an eye watering £72k in that spec😱 Renault Sport do offer a DSG Megane so could have chosen to put that in the car but like VW and Seat chose not too. I think there is too much emphasis on 0 to 60 times and drag races these days. When I had a DSG I only used the launch control on deserted country roads as I was embarrassed and worried about looking and sounding like a yob!

The 20 kg point was raised as VW used it to explain why they chose to put a manual box in the Clubsport S to try and claim the FWD Ring record. It obviously is not very much weight at all and I was suprised that on a track that long that the DSG car would not be quicker (in their view) especially with so many gear changes and so little weight to compensate for. I actually find it ridiculous that some people on here and other forums imply and suggest that a manual 300 PS Golf is slow.....?!
-
Mine are dirty on the inside (16 plate R). They look completely clear during the day but at night it really annoys me and my OCD🤬 I have seen other GTIs and Rs that are similar so have decided to just live with it☹

To be honest apart from the launch (which is entertaining😎)I am not sure how much faster the DSG cars actually are.... Car and Driver have timed a manual US spec R (which has slightly less power than a UK car) at 13.4 seconds over the quarter mile. Autocar and Carwow have timed a UK DSG car at exactly the same (with the 7 speed DSG box as well)?! On forums it seems that most stock DSG cars run beween 13.1 and 13.4 seconds. So from the evidence I have seen so far there is hardly anything in it. I am not criticising or having a go at DSG Rs at all, just trying to offer some balance to the performance discussion surrounding the 2 gearboxes. Also when VW developed the Clubsport S to set a new FWD Ring record they deliberately chose a manual over the DSG. When asked why they said that the 20kg weight penalty would make the DSG car slower over the best part of 8 minutes..🤔 (look it up if you don't believe me!) Finally when Seat went about setting a new record with a Cupra they did so in a manual car. Before all the DSG owners start attacking me(😱!) I am just trying to put forward some facts as I do feel that manual Rs get slagged off online disproportionately. Any potential owners should really drive both the manual and DSG and then form their own opinion - otherwise you may regret it.

Thanks, I spent a long time looking for a Reflex Silver 3 door and have not seen another one since I bought mine in June! I totally agree about the Prets, don't like them at all and preferred the Cadiz wheels even if the lacquer on one of mine has already started peeling😥

First post! I have had a manual R since June and absolutely love it. My previous car was DSG and I nearly ignored the manual as so many posts on forums seem negative. The one thing that struck me as odd is that so many journalists who reviewed the car at launch in 2014 praised the manual box. That made me drive the manual as well and I preferred it. The only modern era hot hatch that I have driven with a nicer box is a Civic Type R - but I really could not look at that every day without feeling 🤮 😂 My advice to anyone who is unsure is to drive both and don't listen to anyone else's opinion. The DSG is excellent, faster and easier to drive fast. However for me the manual is more involving, engaging and really puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it. When a car has this level of performance I don't give a toss about 0 to 60 times etc only how the car makes me feel. Overall there is plenty for manual fans to like with a R.
