Thanks @Dollyman I see it now at the bottom of page. however I’ve had a play around and you still can’t configure a Golf, thus must mean it’s happening. The full range to appear soon
-
I might be getting ahead of myself, but it’s 6.33am (1/8/24) and Golf not showing on VW configurator. is this because they are updating to include Clubsport and R. Just thought I’d let you know to look out later. Perhaps…

Sorry I haven’t gone mad, but thought I’d post this link saying about delays to mk9 Golf ( which will be electric) https://www.drive.com.au/news/electric-volkswagen-golf-parked-until-2029-due-to-software-issues-report/ I think several people fancied a R 25yrs edition… probably more likely to happen with above news.

It’s Here… facelift VW Golf R https://www.vwpress.co.uk/en-gb/releases/5154 I will let others pass judgment. I think we knew it was going to look like that

Hi @Hertsman @blizzard60 I’ve been spending way too much times scouting internet for VW future model info, so hope this summary is helpful. The ID GTI concept is approved for production from all the quotes I’ve seen with production in 2027. From what I’ve read it’s not the new Golf but will have a different name. Polo, ID2 something different who knows… mk9 Golf will be EV according to quotes attributed to Thomas Schafer and this will be on fancy new platform SSP (with better tech, 800V architecture, better efficiency & faster charging speeds). All the talk when R models are mentioned is that this won’t appear until 2029/2030 as they need the new architecture and faster charging. Also in articles senior VW have directly said “future of R is electric” so there will be EV performance models appearing. However there was recent article which I’m sure had VW senior person saying, words to the effect, “we won’t necessarily ditch ICE Golf’s etc if there is still demand and they could run in tandem with EV model into 2030s.” That seems positive to keeping models like Golf and derivatives like GTI and R going until demand falls off as transition takes place. it seems almost certain that Golf GTI celebrates 50th birthday with special, so personally I won’t be surprised if you do get a R25 in 2028 too. Hope that is helpful.

@Booth11 This is hilarious. I was having a good look at the alloys and thinking I much prefer 5 spoke alloys, but this wheel is ok apart from the small V shape…. that will be a nuisance to clean (in my dreams with current new prices) then I scroll down and read your comments, about exactly that point 🤣🤣

Hi guys just seen this in Autocar, another one of those first drives in camo car. https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/new-volkswagen-golf-r-we-drive-vws-hottest-hatch nothing too revealing from my glance through it. But only a few more weeks until the full reveal

German Car Trackday Castle Combe 17/08/24
AndyR replied to Msportman's topic in Future Meets, Track Days, & Events
Hi Sorry, I’m over the other side of the country on that date. So won’t be able to make it. Hope you all have a good day. -
Hi all If anyone interested then Audi released S3 prices. S3 available to order from 15 May Sportback prices S3 Black Edition- from £46,925 OTR S3 Vorsprung - from £52,400 OTR Saloon prices add £565 Audi UK press release on prices and standard specs. https://press.audi.co.uk/en-gb/releases/888 Couldn’t see any mention of cost of Akrapovic exhaust. So we can expect Golf R to be similar money. Will be interesting to see what VW do with facelift R.

Didn’t think this latest news warranted another thread, but Autocar says VW considering EV Scirocco. I’m not getting excited as 2028 isn’t exactly just around corner. https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/volkswagen-scirocco-primed-comeback-ev-sports-coupe noted on people’s reservation, but I find the the whole tech thing intriguing. Batteries, charging and efficiency all big points. Let’s see how it all develops, but a good second hand Golf might be the answer for a few yrs yet

Before I get lynched can I just say…this Cupra can’t be as good as a Golf R as it doesn’t have 4WD…but 402Nm torque might be quite handy for rolling acceleration times. https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/new-cupra-born-vz-hot-hatch-boosts-power-322bhp it’s an interesting addition and buy wonder what the price will be when launched.
-
Sean don’t panic, I think that was previously possible with golfs in Europe under mk8. I know it was discussed previously on here in another topic
-
I thought your friend at Audi was overdoing it with £70k for RS3, but having seen news about S3, I think this is highly likely. The Golfs aren’t going to be cheap and I think with all the options ticked on a R you should be able to get up to something starting with a 6. i like to think VW are planning an Edition 50 with 350ps (is that possible with Front wheel drive?) but I think the numbers could be limited (as with the other performance Golfs) due to restrictions on supply to manage ZEV Mandate that makers need to meet with targets from 2024. not sure we’d ever get 0% finance on a R but will be interesting to see what the sales tactics are if they aren’t going to give discounts or perhaps as I say above with restricted supply there will be enough buyers willing to pay full price.
-
disappointing that only standard models available at moment. I agree on price for area view 360 camera seemed reasonable cost. yes, colours were a big disappointment. let’s hope we don’t have to wait too long for GTI to appear…the German website does say… on configurator in a few weeks, so hopefully not too long to wait.
-
It will be interesting to see once everything is out there to choose between. one thing for the S3, it looks like the facelift will keep screen integrated to dashboard. but Golf R can be specced how you like rather than having to add stuff in packs you might not want. perhaps there will be an amazing range of colours and wheel designs for both models. we’ll see later in year.
-
I also dislike the chrome, so hopefully it will be black edition all the way…
-
Sorry if this has already been posted, but Audi shown their S3 facelift and they seem to have been busy raiding the Golf R / RS3 parts bin. https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/audi-s3-prototype-drive it’s funny I also found some YouTube videos and at the end I thought…so it’s a Golf R 20yrs with Audi badge. so I think the Golf R will be minimum 333ps and I wonder if they will go a little higher in power
-
hi all found this on Volkswagen newsroom. https://www.volkswagen-newsroom.com/en/press-releases/ice-race-in-zell-am-see-volkswagen-offers-a-first-glimpse-of-the-new-golf-r-18100 tells pretty much nothing other than confirming what has already been said…full reveal in summer. but I also found this which is a nice piece of history for the avid Golf fan for a trip down memory lane. https://www.volkswagen-newsroom.com/en/publications/more/50-years-of-golf-2612

Ouch! Clearly at that price they would junk the shard of the base model and just go Carbon & Vorsprung. Does make the 8/8.5R a more sensible choice as all-rounder. Will certainly be a shame when 2.5 litre is finished. Perhaps now Audi are finished with TT, they might be a few units spare for an R400🤣🤣
-
That's a good way to finish the week with camo shots of new 8.5R. So that has cheered me up. I like how the R and clubsport look ( but with caveat that they are covered in camo). As you say @Booth11 need full review and definite colours to see if these new bumper designs work. I have always liked the Mk8R front but from what I have seen that have added a little more and that could be even more to my liking. Re: choosing new cars, I always think a spreadsheet is essential....to prove your knew the VW was the correct car all along.
-
hang on I know what that is…..oh yes it says so in the post…🤪🤣🤣 I think we will have to wait a few months for full reveal. But good to know it’s around and ready for action
-
ha ha. That’s my approach…I try and be terribly open minded and look at all the options….but then the shortlist shrinks to one and I’m back in a VW 🤣😆
-
I think its probably fair to assume the R-Line will show some of the design of the Full R. I watched one of the review videos on youtube and was shocked at the detail on the R-Line grille/bumper and thoght that will probably be colour coded on Full R model so I need to go back and have a further look on pause
-
Here you go @Dogman12 GTI with fog lights showing (this is from official VW YouTube Short with design sketches of Golf facelift)
-
From my experience and others hopefully can confirm, but highly unlikely that CS or R will appear next week ( @Booth11 what time lag was there, if any when mk7.5 came out) Or was the full range available pretty quickly as it was a facelift rather than totally new model. I'm thinking something probably CS would be saved GTI festival in Wolfsburg in July 24. The R in Sept time 🤫
