That sunroof opens & closes with a swipe, can’t imagine the electrical niggles in the future 😭My 2016 Tiguan (while lovely when it was working) was in the garage every month for all good electronics stuff before the gearbox died. I guess there’s not enough experience with the 8.5R with electronics reliability? but that’s a new car thing isn’t it and most seem to trade their cars in within the warranty? I’ve been looking more at a new / fun long termer to help me focus on other projects down the line, and don’t think anything else is better, I tried a M340i & maybe I got it all wrong because it has such rave reviews, but it didn’t have 1% of the feel from my current fossil 1er with a 6-pot Ah for sure! I am all for girl power with my daughters now as well 😆 The toddler seems to be into Golf R’s as well going by how she goes nuts for the YT videos, while the older one wants me to get a pink/purple car but would settle for blue because grey is boring (even though she’s grown out of bluey). Aha that made me chuckle, I think I qualify for that broom as well tbh, am sure you’re keeping your car looking super minty always! That’s the thing with Golf R right, it has universal appeal all over, young/old, male/female, everyone etc it reminds me of the appeal the E30 has in a similar way, I follow Sandra Step on social media who’s so into her E30 Emerald project and there use to be a Youtuber brown car guy who had a black one, was sad when he had to let go of it due to ULEZ in London.

Good shout, those wheels are only available on the standard car, many reviews don’t mention this. I think I do like the Warmenause a lot, but conscious about whether I can justify it for a long term daily, I suppose fighting the same battle between Lapiz Blue & DG BE, but I am trying to see some cars in person before pulling the trigger, also tricky getting the test drives sorted. I am new to this thread but I am not sure how many gents & ladies to (apologies ) spec the sunroof as well for a long term daily, in warranty am sure it’s nothing to worry about either, but am not sure how reliable they are the VW roofs, out of warranty I’d get the drains serviced every year though. I am trying to basically create the most special car which is friendly for a long term daily as well

Also guys, I saw a Lapiz Blue Black Ed in a unit recently, and I feel like the black trim is more suited to a Black or DG car. If going Lapiz Blue I feel like you need to have it with the warmenau dark graphite wheels; can you still spec a standard car to have all the performance/dynamic nannies that the BE has? I think it might just be the performance pack that separates them? Not including the black trim or aesthetic pieces. Do you good fellas think the warmenau dark graphite wheels might be a bit much for a daily driver? And is this winter the final window to get a R built in Germany? There have been rumours of production shifting to Mexico but I am not too close to the VW news as much. Cheers

Ah those OG S3’s were lovely cars! It’s nice to know you adjusted well to the tech, going from my 05 130 & an R will be like moving into a Spaceship 🤣 My only worry is if the tech can be more of a hinderance opposed to an aid, like on our family van a CRV I try not to look in the reverse camera as whenever I try to use any kind of tech end up driving poorly lmao And where I am in the city they all drive like dogs and tailgate you when you’re trying to parallel park etc I just wonder how much time one actually needs to spend faffing around with the tablet? Like generally when you park and get the birds eye 360 view, is that good enough in combination with the reverse camera to aid you or make a noise if you’re near a kerb? Or do you spend time zooming into the various camera angles? That seems overwhelming and only truly possible when you have time etc But with dogs behind you and space reducing as well, is that 360 top down view good enough / useful without zooming in etc

I saw a blue & white one today in a unit, it was lit, but not overly, but where the light shined on the body I could see swirl marks on both cars, I actually don’t think what colour you go for makes a difference in that sense, the VW paint seems super soft

I love that! I would say I am a bit more partial to the darker shades of green but yours looks amazing! The green paints with the new S3 look great to but I can’t get on with Audi for some reason, something about an R! Good point, it does stand out a bit more, in the short term until PCP is done I may go for Lapiz Blue without the PPF & just enjoy it, and then revisit the correction/protection if I keep longer. I have been looking into drivethedeal to, they seem to give the best discounts, are you aware of what % you can get off the list or used them? I think they are better then car wow to.

Second guessing the blue now lol or if I did get it then it doesn’t make sense that I get a PPF, I would love to get into detailing but time is an issue right now, maybe when the PCP ends I can look at the PPF then and any correction needed etc if keep the car a while longer hopefully

Hello people, I see many seem to option Area View & I wondered how critical & useful this actually is? Coming from a much older car that doesn’t even have sensors 😭 I wondered if it is genuinely beneficial. Cheers

Ah RS3 what an upgrade! I had that conundrum looking at others cars which are meant to be sporty etc but felt the R ticked all the boxes and can be fun in everyday driving as well, although I’ve not tried the GTI. I think with cars like the RS3 & I find this with my 130i to, they want to be at the top of the rev range constantly. Do you think VW will bring back the 5-pot for the R? I think I will for sure get a PPF and use specialist detailers initially, then maybe transition to hand-car washes and get a proper detail done once a year from Year 2 onwards; maybe that is safer. Also this might be a silly question, but is Lapiz Blue more likely to get nicked from the drive then grey lol Or is the good ol steering lock + tweak the front door lock a bit to a good enough deterrence, I am sadly from midlands but just outside inner city areas. Never had anything fancy before and little paranoid about this as well. I know the previous gen R’s were popular amongst the scoundrel thieves.

Did you sell your Lapiz? And I know things don’t always work out this way, but my hope would be to keep as long as possible so would get the PPF for protecting from serious damage; just unsure on the longevity of a strategy where you get the protection & later use the hand car washes etc Your Lapiz Blue looks great! I do agree DG does go with the BE quiet well, I otherwise saw a bog standard R line in that colour and it never quiet hit the spot, maybe that’s a sign lol Although it wasn’t an R or BE

I would try to if I was confident / trusting of myself lol I have a Karcher though to wash the kids toy cars with in the garden 🤣 Otherwise I thought going to a specialist they sort of rip you off, if I did I wondered if I could get away with it only for a year post PPF and then using the hand car washes which are so convenient

Hey sorry for sure, will keep the discussion in here Thanks for the reply, I am in two minds with both colours and trying to see both in person which is a bit tricky, it does seem like the blue blends in well in the evening but lights up during the day. With a PPF on the Lapiz Blue, could you then get away with say using the usual hand car wash? Or do you need a specialist detailer, I wonder how folk manage that, it is a lovely colour, but at same time may want to avoid stressing about how I am cleaning it etc The Dolphin Grey seems less common and is probably more stealthy which is the benefit of that colour, doesn’t look like VW will have more choices in the future with paint options.

Hello all, hope you’re ok, undecided on picking between these two paints 😭 I am not the best detailer either and use a hand car wash but would get a PPF. What are your experiences maintaining these colours and your thoughts on the looks if you have seen both. Also good to know if you have any regrets with any of these colours if you went with one or the other. Thanks everyone!!

Hello all, new here to, and I am looking to put an order in as soon as I can as I understand production will shift to Mexico soon? It may not be a biggy, but having the car built in Germany would be nice. I am struggling to decide on the paint and thought I’d get some help here, I am not the best at detailing lol but get the monthly hand car wash done on my cars, with a new car I’d for sure try and get a PPF done however and could that be enough then if I continued the hand car washes etc for either colour? But what are your experiences with Lapiz Blue & Dolphin Grey in terms of ease of maintenance and also the aesthetics?. I like how much the Blue stands out but that grey is nice & stealthy to under the black edition trim. Cheers all!
