Hi all! I’ve read the various threads about batteries, and it seems like many upgrade the cheaper EFB to AGM. a friend of mine has an EFB+ battery from his GTI which is c.9m old, can I swap my falling EFB with this one without coding ? My existing battery is 69Ah, 360A, EFB [Sebang]. The replacement is a VW battery made by Varta: 70Ah, 420A. Will this need to be coded ? my existing battery is likely not fit for purpose anymore as the car comes up with a low voltage error if the ignition is left on for more than 5m. I think this makes sense as the car is a Jan 2017 registered car. it is actually under extended warranty - does anyone know if the warranty will cover the battery ? thanks in advance for any advice !

I will be replacing my EFB battery for an AGM and was just wondering if anyone is based in the Surrey/South London area and would be willing to help code the new battery ? Understand it may cost, so would also be good to know what the going rate is!

I used Driftbridge in Epsom. Very good service I found.

I am thinking about buying the full system, including the Downpipe. Do you know if they would fit the 7 and 7.5 equally ? Mine is a 7 so just nervous about buying one and finding out it was only compatible with the 7.5 n

Just about to attach... and to be clear.... I can use the CTEK charging lead if I connect the positive cable direct to the battery and the the negative cable to the terminal on the bulkhead (ie. negative not direct to the battery). and last q... should the CTEK be in AGM mode or normal car mode ?

when you say “OFF the car”, do you mean if the charger is outside the vehicle ? Like the CTEK ?

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I’m interested in fitting the akra to my golf. I’ve had akra titanium systems on a couple of previous cars and find their quality and sound to be superb. has anyone bought one ? Just wondering how much to expect to pay if I was wanting to buy one new... also, I’m assuming they are a straight swap, but interested in case anyone has the fitting instructions.

Thanks @gregozedobe, much appreciated. I will do some research to find where the negative terminal is located on the firewall. Just to be clear, positive terminal on the battery is ok, just the negative on the firewall ? on the recon mode, i was just confused as the charger appears to have a a specific AGM Recond mode. Update.... VW confirmed the cable had broken... being replaced. Quoted £110 until I clarified that the car was under extended warranty.

Interesting! @gregozedobe, my CTEK has a Recon function which is specifically for AGM... assume that’s ok ? Also, why connect then negative to the firewall rather than the battery ?

Yup. I have a couple of the MXS 5.0 chargers and they are brilliant. Out of interest, should i use the AGM setting or the regular Car setting ?

Just realised I won’t be able to disconnect the ctek. 🤦‍♂️ will need to find a way to secure it for the short journey to the dealer.
