IOS phone app for tracking, 0-60 times etc
Anchorman replied to The Doc's topic in Modifying your Golf R MK7
Incorrect.. Both Vbox and Dragy use the same 10 HZ GPS receiver and post identical numbers - I know as I have both. The main difference being the Dragy has moved the game on in terms of its each of use and software platform (instant data for graphs/slopes/G, leaderboards, news feeds, user profiles, video functions etc) Vbox will need to step their game up if they want to compete in terms of sales, as Dragy has well and truly taken over. The £200+ difference in price makes a huge difference also. -
Yes, Wayne has the quickest stock turbo 7R in the UK at Pod that I know of. His was running water meth, race fuel and rear seats out. I will be running pump fuel and full trim in the morning. Depending how that goes, I will remove rear seats in the afternoon to see the difference in results. Will still be Tesco 99 fuel though. I may odd a bottle of octane booster if I get chance to get some, but certainly not bothering with RF. Will do well to to beat Wayne's times with my mods though. Can only try. If I do a sub 11.5 full weight and pump fuel, i'll be chuffed!

You heading to Pod again anytime soon Damian. Few of us are off on Saturday if you fancy it?

Some nice Stage 2 Numbers
Anchorman replied to Rick@UnicornMotorDev's topic in Modifying your Golf R MK7
These figures look very familiar ;-) -
I assume the White grey is similar to Audi's Suzuka Grey and Seat's Dynamic Grey (which I is one of my favourite colours tbh)? Love the Indium Grey too though, so would be hard to choose (a lot of other VAG models in Indium Grey though). What's happened to the Performance package/titanium exhaust option?
-
What mileage is that on mate? Quite high I assume, as that's quite a hike on some of the prices I have seen banded about for a standard-ish car.

Help needed please guys.. Wanting to get our 7R fitted with the Milltek DP I have recently ordered and wondering where is a good place that don't charge a fortune to fit it? I have been quoted £250+ so far which I think sounds OTT (even though I know it's a PITA). Or is that the going rate? I am based in Lincs, but getting the car mapped at Unicorn. So somewhere in-between there would be useful. Going to try Awesome GTI now, but any other suggestions would be appreciated?

Golf R lease deals - Anywhere got them in stock?
Anchorman replied to Sparky's topic in The Lease Board
I couldn't give a rat's rear end mate.. So long as I use genuine parts, there is bog all they can do IMO. Like you say though, £150 for main dealer is worth paying tbh. Makes no odds now as I have changed my mind and gone with the maintained contract (ordered today). £6 extra a month, but £120 saving on the admin fee, £150 service covered and if I do scrub the tyres off, I won't be £600 worse off near the end of the contract. -

They have come back to me with a similar price, but I am wandering whether it's worth swapping for the £305 a month deal I have on the table when you question how useful the maintained contract is? The wife will use this car 90% of the time, so there is no way she will go through a set of tyres in 16k. Plus with long life servicing, it will only need one oil service (which I will get done by a friend who is a local VW Indy). -

I'm about to pull the trigger on one for the wife for Jan delivery. Best I have got down to so far for a 5dr DSG in White is £305 a month on a 3 + 23 deal (+£360 admin fee). May push this to a 6+23 closer to delivery, but it's all relative I suppose. Only downside is its 18p per mile excess, so will need to keep a cloe eye on that. Her current car has averaged 7k for the last 3 years, so should be ok. I saw a deal a while back for £286 a month with no deposit other than £300 admin fee for the same spec. Long gone now though :-( Is there better out there do you know guys? I have got another deal for £313 a month with £180 admin fee, so very similar. -

RS5 and RS6 are completely different beasts.. RS4/5's run a N/A V8 which rarely makes anywhere near it's claimed 450bhp. They are also heavy for what they are. RS6 is a blown V8 which makes every one of it's 560bhp and performs A LOT better than it's younger sibling. RS5/4 can easily be taken on and beaten in a 360+ 6/7R. -

I don't think it's a case of people saying it didn't happen. More it shouldn't of happened.. What's your spec also? -

Knowing F10 M5's, it was probably about 70 where he got traction!!! ha -

Totally agree mate... I am told the APR car was on race gas and on top of that they hired the track and had the whole APR team there all day. If this is true, then I dare say that's about as quick as it's going to go. Always prefer to see what customer's cars run once a few have ran at the track.. -

Without being too pedantic, it was a low 114 against 119.95, so closer to 6... ha ha. Anyway apologies, but I read your post as you were suggesting that the majority of his gains were from the tweak to his map now accommodating his de-cat, which I think we can safely say isn't the case. I know of a 8v S3 running Rick's stage 2 map which also has a Scorpion DP, yet only runs 113/114mph traps at Pod. So where has the extra come from if the ethanol hasn't made that much of a difference because it hasn't been mapped for it? Certainly not the weight removal like you say.. The main point I am trying to get across is that some people on here are being led to believe that they can take a stock DSG Golf R to Rick, add an intake, DP and his current Stage 2 software and instantly run near 120mph trap speeds at Santa Pod. Well forgive me for being sceptical, but as good as Rick's work is, I very much doubt this is the case. Especially as TTE450 kitted cars aren't even achieving this on the same track!!! Although Shorty's car was dyno'd at 385bhp with Ethanol in the tank (362 without), I would be amazed if it was running anywhere near that on Saturday. He did tell me he had a stronger mix in the tank and it would probably be much closer to 390-400 like you say. I reckon it would be closer to 420-30 on most dyno's to be honest. We all know Rick's isn't one for handing out free bhps. 490-500bhp 6R and 7R's are only making 122mph and APR's Stage 3 7R with close to 520bhp did 124mph.. You do the math ;-) I know one thing, he has had a lot of people scratching their heads since Saturday like I told him he would ha ha -

As above, ethanol, not meth.. So you gain 1mph from shifting 50kgs out the car, but gain 6mph from tweaking the map for a cat-less DP.. That's some DP!!!! lol Anyone who thinks the ethanol added to Shorty's tank hasn't made that much of a difference is deluded!!! Either that, or the custom map he is now running is taking the car to the brink of destruction. I doubt very much Rick would do that, do you? Shorty has himself said that Saturday was all about seeing what the car was capable of, balls out (fuel, weight removal etc). The results are epic, simple as!!! However, for those thinking that a standard 'off the shelf' Unicorn Stage 2 mapped car is going to run mid 11's @ 120mph terminals on pump fuel and be pushing GTR's down the road, please prove me wrong ;-) -
Unicorn Motor Developments Stage 2 R does 11.5
Anchorman replied to Rick@UnicornMotorDev's topic in Modifying your Golf R MK7
The general difference between Crail and Pod is the surface the cars are running on. Pod is an FIA approved Drag Strip and has a very very tacky surface for the whole length of the 1/4 mile. This naturally creates drag so trap speeds suffer when comparing to running on standard tarmac/concrete. This can also be seen when doing 1/4 mile runs on the road using a Vbox. Mine sees 118/119mph on the road, but 116 on the strip. Crail doesn't have the same issue as it isn't a 'proper' drag strip as such, so doesn't have the same tacky surface. This can be seen in the higher trap speeds that are generally run on average. Traction may not be perfect there as most have said (especially the start line), but due to the cars crossing the line at a higher speed, this usually brings the times back in line with what are seen at Pod. So similar times, quicker traps. -

Don't worry, you'll get it back Shorty. I can vouch for AdDaMan as he has borrowed mine before (when he was stock).. Be good to see what times he can get in his manual Unicorn R, especially 100-200. Can't see it getting anywhere near your 0-60/100 times though given the box. -

A tuning box on a B7 RS4? It's probably about the same power as a stock R now then.. -

Anchorman replied to redbeast's topic in Modifying your Golf R MK7
There is no worse feeling than when your car doesn't make the power you expect it to and there is no obvious reason why? I 'm not a huge dyno fan tbh as it is generally such a lottery. I much prefer to measure my cars performance with a Vbox (on the same road before/after) to make sure that the claimed gains that are made, actually make it to the tarmac. Either way, I hope it gets sorted. -
