  1. Interesting read 👍, although the gt3 does have adjustable roll bars. Agreed with the gt4 not being allowed to tread on the 911's toe's, shame really as the cayman is cracking machine. trying not to watch reviews of the new one, it only upsets me that whilst I can afford the 'list' price, the chances of getting one at that price are nil EDIT: I think the jump to a 4.0 is just logical, they'll get a load of people convinced it's a 'detuned' gt3 engine to help the sales/hype whilst the next gen gt3/rs will be a 4.2 according to the rumours (matches previous form too, jumps of ~200cc), still going to be a beast of car tho
  2. last bespoke GT engine was the 997 GT3, everything now is a 9a1 (or 2 if you got in line early) Lovely looking machine you've got, toying with getting one, but the 997 is more tempting for me. Also interesting how common the shared parts are across the sporty segment of porsche
  3. Never heard of an Armco Card and i've never found an insurance company who will cover the full amount of Armco/track damage.(the £2k offered by some places would vanish in the tinyest of bumps) And personally you should always hope for the best but prep for the worst. Driving there in one day and then putting in some laps? that's a bad idea imo. You're going to be tired from the drive, you're going to get there and be "woo, we're here!" and assuming the track is even open when you arrive, end up in the armco like the other hundreds of brits thinking it's a day trip and just your average back road. This is something you should plan for, be prepared for and really take your time and enjoy it. If you can't afford to take a few days to do the trip, you probably shouldn't be considering it, you'll be rushed and you won't enjoy it as much, and if you're rushed, chances of shit going wrong increase. There are several companies who offer self catering apartments (ring garage, apex and others) however you might have fun trying to find stuff for early June, it's peak season. Couple of extra bits of advice.. Check the calender's here: https://www.greenhelldriving.nuerburgring.de/#/landing and: http://www.nuerburgring.de/en/events-tickets/info/events-dates.html Register an account on the 2nd and you can buy your lap tickets online and use your smartphone as your ticket. As above It's now pretty much peak season at the ring for the next few months, there will be lots of fast stuff and slow stuff, people going for imaginary times and people going for cruises, just be sensible, pay attention and keep right. And honestly, pay for a rental with instruction, or at the least some instruction. you might think "Oh gods why in a suzuki swift/polo/etc" But you'll get more enjoyment out of someone teaching you the right lines and giving you a bit more info in a setup car than you will throwing your R around imo. And it'll save your ass when you do decide the next day to throw your R around the track. It isn't close to what you've done on GT/Forza/PCars/Iracing. If you still decide to go, best of luck and I hope you enjoy it, warning it can be very addictive
  4. As per the VW Site, Pre facelifts are (available from stock only). Can't see that VW would let you deselect it when they say it's standard across the higher up models.
  5. R1 weighs in at 200kg with a 190hp engine, even a 5 year old could work out that's not 1000bhp per tonne sure you can argue the track ecu puts it to 200, but then we'll counter with the added weight of the organ donor on top dropping the power to around 700bhp per tonne. 1st gear on an R1 runs to about 130kph, that's 81mph, somewhat short of your claimed 120mph... R1 runs the quarter in about 9.8 seconds @ 149.91 mph, that's not a 9 second run maxing at 151mph. I do like how you've signed up to a forum to have a dig and made yourself look a tit...
  6. Whilst the Mk8 may be around in 2018/19, I highly doubt an R variant will be out, mk6/7's were on sale for a year or more before the R editions hit. As others have said, do what makes you happy
  7. Just been through some more screen shots, seems the car moves as you empty the tank, 34k miles in mine and i've never noticed this.
  8. Hur, i've never noticed the car is in a different place in the two pics. The eco run was done a few months before the euro trip, just scanning through my old pics to see if the car moves relative to the fuel amount or if this was some change in the service between the two times. And yeah the satnav was set which hides the driving mode, was in comfort/eco settings.
  9. Had filled up the previous evening, started the car was on the autoroute within a minute and just cruised at the limits, lovely smooth roads and very little traffic, wasn't exactly the most fun drive but having been stopped in the past by Belgian police i try and avoid it again
  10. Funnily enough the 1.4TSI Bluemotion shitbox i have doesn't get close to the R's MPG in real world driving, quick blast up the motorway and back in the mornings to drop the wife off and it shows a pitiful 25mpg whilst the R registers a somewhat nicer 32mpg
  11. Yeah, not sure if there was a heat shield rubbing or something but on the down revs from outside there was a definite squeaking, not noticeable in the car at all, could be it's the demonstrator and no doubt not been treated with the kindest of hands
  12. Test drove one of these the other week, insanely fast and powerful and that exhaust note, enough to make the dealer giggle like a school girl https://www.dropbox.com/s/wy31xk5zvgfnzq2/2017-03-05%2011.53.36.mp4?dl=0 Agree with the ipad dash look, new one has two large "ipads" and just looks a bit strange, added to the fact I feel about 40 years too young to be in the merc
  13. I didn't buy mine, because i'm a freaking idiot who thought he would find something better by the time the lease was up, however the price given was very good and one of my friends opted to buy the car, he dealt with BCA (as per the form they send upon quotation request) and aside an email to me to sign and confirm i was happy to sell it on I didn't have to get involved at all. Loans, like PCP's do allow over-payments, however depending on the terms there may be charges associated with this.
  14. They've not been put up yet, these bits were only announced last week and presently no one seems to know anything them, there is speculation it wont come to the UK but i personally feel that's tripe, UK is the market where such things are more likely to sell.
  15. Have used them in the past for my vehicles with no issues and find them to be more sympathetic to the engine than other manufacturers, not always got the power figures that others boast, but i'd take that over keeping my exhaust valves in one piece (not to mention no locking your ecu/f*****g it up as per certain companies)
