  1. One of the little annoyances for my 2015 R is I find the reversing lights not bright enough. Has anyone swapped them for LED/CREE setups? If so can you share the bulb spec please?
  2. I must admit I wish I had gone for 'just' the vienna leather and then spent the extra getting the bits re-trimmed to my spec. Fortunately, my dealer screwed up and ordered the wrong leather option and has now agreed to me getting the seats re-trimmed to my spec at his cost. Ultimately though - I do agree I think the extended leather is not worth the extra cost. Hopefully someone who is considering the option will see this thread and have a long, hard think.
  3. I have been offered a cash sum or the seats to be re-trimmed at the dealers expense. As long as the trimmer offers some sort of warranty and the dealer records the change then I will be happy with that. I agree that I don't think the car could be rejected successfully. Will keep you all posted - thanks for taking the time to reply everyone
  4. I took delivery of my 2016 Golf-R a couple of weeks back. The car is spec'd as I ordered except the dealer ordered the wrong leather seat option. I got Leather 'Anthracite' when I actually ordered Leather 'Grey' IE the much lighter seat insert colour. He has put his hands up and said it was his fault. I guess in hindsight I should have rejected the car there and then but seeing as I waited 5 months I (a) got caught up in the moment and ( just 'assumed' it would be easily corrected. I went back to him and said, I want the seats swapped out. This has been looked into and apparently this is not a viable option as the seats would need to be purchased at great cost [obviously not for me] He has suggested that the seats are re-trimmed in the correct colour but I have concerns over quality and warranty ETC. Open to suggestions/advice on what my options are ...... Thanks!
  5. Any pics, details, spec, wheels used ETC? - An interesting thread as I will track my R next year and most reviews have said the stock brakes fade with heavy track use.....
  6. I too am glad I spec'd it! The dynaudio solution in the MK7 has had some great reviews on the interweb With a decent source it sounds lovely and is totally fit for purpose. I had BOSE in my last car (2007 RS4 Avant) and people used to say "No highs, no lows, it has to be BOSE!"
  7. You would have called the old bill by now with a "robbery in progress" call Do you really think they would come back? I doubt it. Anyway - It was just a suggestion
  8. Revo do anti-theft - simple enough - plug in the dongle and program the ecu when you leave the car and it will start but not go anywhere - takes a few seconds - so worth the spend imho
  9. Spotify is a certified Apple Car play app : https://www.apple.com/ios/carplay/ As for bluetooth - yes it works, but you have to control Spotify from the phone which defeats the whole idea of car play. Also, as I have an advanced phone connection, the phone lives in the armrest which means it's kinda difficult to change tracks/playlists ETC At the moment - carplay and spotify are about as useful as a chocolate teapot!
  10. Is it me or does anyone else think that VW's implementation of car play is not quite ready for public consumption? I specifically am referring to Spotify and TuneIn radio which are both certified for use with car play. For my 2016 R [with Discovery Pro, Climate Screen, Dynaudio and advance telephone connection], Spotify & TuneIn have a mind of their own and will work sometimes but for the most time they just don't work The apps load and appear on the MIB-II, but as soon as try and play a stream I get zero audio, just a blank screen with the usual play icon. I have found the only way to sometimes fix this is to unplug the phone and manually shutdown the apps via the iphone interface. However, even this does not always work and I have to wait until the next time the car is switched off and get the apps reset. I am hoping that a firmware fix will address this in the future, but for now the apps/carplay feature are simply not fit for purpose. Has anyone else seen this or perhaps could shed any more light on the issue. I've considered raising this with the dealer but expect I would be fobbed of with " it's a problem with apps and not car play " Which may/may not be true ..... It's shame as it's putting a downer or what is a fantastic car..... Kev.
  11. Yep - I did the same today - and it works just fine so no mobile wifi needed. Result!
  12. Thanks Jonny - looks like a lost cause which is pretty pants considering there is lots of info in the manual and reference to the 'premium phone connection' Look's like my only option is to get a mobile wifi unit from my SIM provider [Vodaphone] - they are £25 - or see if I can make my iPhone have a permanent hotspot. If I go with the unit I will just sit it in the 4motion 'cubby' and have it plugged into the USB port there. This will provide a wifi network for car-net I've voted on your thread - it seems I am not alone! Cheers
  13. Hey Guys, I picked up my 2016 R on Monday and it's living up to all expectations this far - I love it My spec included advanced telephone connection plus TechPack and CarNet. I can connect the Golf's CarNet to my home wifi when I am on my drive and can transfer POI's ETC - Google Earth and streetview also work OK, Whilst I was reading through the manual, I saw that with the 'premium phone connection' you can add a data SIM to the interface in the glovebox, However, when I checked the interface it only has slots for SD cards but not a SIM. I was expecting to see somewhere to insert a SIM so that carnet uses the the SIM for data and to enable you to setup a WLAN in the car. I had a rumage and I can't find the slot anywhere else on the car. Has anyone else get the same spec or could shine any more light on the subject - the manual indicates that I should be able to use the SIM but without the slot I am stuffed! Thanks Kev,
  14. How's this coming along Rick? Would be interested in a few bits .....
  15. From what I have read - The Car-Net Guide & Inform services can be used in conjunction with the following infotainment systems: Discover Media [Guide and Inform] and Discover Pro [Guide and Inform Plus] Fingers crossed that someone will develop a retro fit!
  16. Just to let you know for new UK orders you can spec "Car-Net App-Connect" a £100 option This includes "app-connect" which includes Apple Car-Play There is also loads of extra technical fucntionality/goodness included in additon to Apple Car play More details here : http://volkswagen-carnet.com/uk/en/start/online-devices.html I have a R on with BW waiting to be confirmed and have successfully added this to my build spec. Happy days - lets hope it's rock solid in it's functionality!

  19. Hi everyone, I have just today ordered a Golf R I have come from a very mint black 2007 RS4 Avant which despite its 400+ bhp 8200RPM V8 was starting to show it's age despite me lavishly looking after it over the past 2 1/2 years - So with 90K miles, 4 owners it was with quite a bit of sadness that I passed it onto its new owner last Monday. I would never had looked at a Golf as a replacement were it not for a friend who bought one a few months ago and took me out for a spin. Last Thursday I got round to properly test driving one and after an hour or so I came back and was pretty blown away by the car. Don't get me wrong I loved my burbling V8 but times have changed and technology has come on in leaps and bounds and the R ticked all the right boxes, was quick, handled superbly and had all the gadgets I was looking for. This is what I have ordered .... Golf R 2.0 TSI 300PS 4MOTION 6spd 5dr DSG Lapiz Blue (Metallic) 19" 'Pretoria' wheels Carbon/Grey 'Nappa' leather with 'R' logo Keyless Entry Discover Pro Nav Dynamic Chassis Control Tinted glass 90% Panoramic sunroof Advanced telephone connection Dynaudio soundpack High Beam Assist Rear view camera Climate windscreen Door Sill Trims (5 door) The only mod I plan from day one is VW motorsport springs Let the wait begin In the mean time I have my trusty '03 Civic Type-R track day toy as my daily driver! Cheers - Kev.S
