  1. Thank you for the info, much appreciated. I think I'll have a word with my local dealer, see what they come up with. Could be alignment if your car hasn't had this issue. The door panel gaps all look spot on to me. Funny, small issues like this make you wonder whether you bought the right car until you walk up to it in a car park and think "yeah, that's mine!". I saw the new RS3 yesterday parked near mine, blimey it's a looker but almost £30k more, crazy.
  2. I'm sure this must have been mentioned on here before but is anyone experiencing creaky doors while driving. Not quite done 1000 miles and the car sounds like an old wooden ship. It's the seals rubbing against the door jambs, if you push on the door frame when it's closed you hear it. I bought some Gummi-pflege, TBH I don't want to have to use it. This really shouldn't be happening. Never had this issue on any other car I've had. Maybe it will disappear once the door rubbers have bedded in. It sounds like a hundred 1000 mile car not a 1000 mile car!
  3. After 530 trouble free miles.... Started the car yesterday, did the usual turn off lane assist, speed limit nanny but it wouldn't let me turn off auto stop start. Got a message saying "function not available". So after my drive I tried again, still wouldn't let me disable start stop.. I tried again today and all good. Strange. On a separate issue, had a blow out driving home last week. Heard a loud phsssss and the tyre deflated in seconds. Luckily only 100 yards from home so I limped back. Only had a tyre pressure warning after I had the tyre replaced (a 10mm shard of metal in the tyre, not repairable), not when I had the blown tyre. The TPMS on these golfs doesn't seem to work when needed. One thing to note, these Hankooks seem to have strong side walls. No damage to my wheel. Bonus!
  4. Thought I'd give my own review, I've had my R for over a month now having come from a BMW M135i XDrive. (BMW's answer to the Golf R). Compared to the BMW the Golf feels a little less solidly built. I'm already hearing a few interior noises, the M135i interior was very well screwed together. The general ride quality feels a bit floaty compared to the beemer. Almost like it's not a hot hatch. But now I've got used to it I like it. The M135i had a fairly stiff ride and it felt very solid, gets tiresome on a long journey. This Golf is quick. I used to have a '16 RS3. Mine was the 362 hp version. It was very rapid but I'd say the R feels almost as ballistic. The downside of the RS3 was a very crashy ride and lots of understeer. The noise though, I do miss the noise! Love the R's seats and driving position. Fantastic gear box and just generally really nice to drive. The haptic steering wheel buttons are ok, but the R button is not consistent. I find it difficult to press without activating Race mode every time. Not a fan of the huge screen, I wish it could be turned off while keeping the audio on. I also have to disable the reverse auto braking, whenever I reverse into my garage it thinks I'm about to hit something and slams the anchors on. Overall I love this new R, Keep thinking of reasons to go for a drive. My car history is pretty extensive, M140i, several Type R's, Subarus, Mk7 R, Mk2,3,4 and 5 GTI's, Hyundai I30N to name a few and this Golf is definitely up there. The more I use it the more it gets under my skin.
  5. I did, no PA pro unfortunately. I think my car was built a week too early!
  6. If you look at Vehicle Equipment in your VW online page it lists these : Luggage compartment mat and sunshades for the rear door windows and the rear window So I guess these now come with all new R's or maybe all Golfs.
  7. Collection day! It looks so good in the flesh, 1st time I've seen the new R. Need to get my head around the infotainment. Very happy with the ride quality, I have DCC. My MK7 R had DCC, feels similar from what I can remember. Had a few hot hatches that were too stiff, i30N, M135i Xdrive, Focus RS. To me this new R nails it. Pretty sure it doesn't have the now standard Park Assist Pro, mine must have been on the cusp of build weeks. Looks like they've included boot liners, need to check in the morning. Bagged stuff in the boot. Full spec ; Black Ed, White, Pan roof, DCC, HK and HUD. Nice chap at Doncaster VW, picked me up from the station. Also, it has Hankook tyres. Was expecting Bridgestones.
  8. Dealer called today, my car has arrived! Collecting next Wednesday from Doncaster. I'm quietly hoping it'll have the now standard park assist pro. Build week was supposed to be 47 but it left the factory on 12th Dec (week 50). A Brucie bonus if it has but not too fussed if not. It's been a bit of a journey, having had to cancel my original Mk8 R order 18 months ago, my wife's health taking priority after a scary diagnosis. She's all good now, back to work soon and back to full strength. Needless to say it'll be an emotional collection day, I know it's only a car but these things are what we all work hard for. Got to try to remember to take pics of the car when I collect!
  9. I had a positive update today both from the dealer and VW. My car has left the factory! I'm told I should expect to be able to collect towards the end of January. So it took 3 1/2 weeks from build date to leave the factory. Gives me something to look forward to and stave off the January blues!
  10. I emailed the dealer earlier, apparently my car has still not off production yet. So the wait continues. Can't think why it's still in production after 3 weeks, frustrating but not a lot I can do.
  11. I just had an email from VW confirming my build date, of 18/11/24. Only 3 and a half weeks late! Surely my car must be on its way, my dealer has gone quiet though. Having said that, he did say he'd been promoted and there'd be a new guy doing the handover so maybe that would explain the lack of updates.
  12. I ordered mine 10th August, still not left the factory it seems. The dealer said he'd tell me when it's on it's way. Build week was 2 weeks ago. Thought it might be the pan roof holding it up but I guess not if yours, martyn180, is at the dealer. Nice spec BTW. Mine's a white Black Ed with HUD, DCC, H.K. and Pan roof. It's looking like a January delivery now, worth the wait though!
  13. I'm week 47, also pan roof, still not left production line apparently. I was hoping it would be on its way by now.
  14. Thanks Dollyman, like you say it's just an object, a fast good looking object but an object nonetheless! I've had my fare share of nice motors over the years so maybe a break for a while will be a good thing. Besides, I can use my wife's MX5 so not all bad.
  15. Just a heads up for any one wanting to order a Golf R. I'm having to cancel my R order due to a health issue in my family. Estimated build is week 41 (October). It's being delivered to JCB Medway. It's white with Pan roof, black Estorils, DCC, HUD, winter pk, voice control and park assist. I assume the car will still get built and delivered. Been a year since my order. Gutted but health comes first. Maybe I'll pick up a used MK8 R one day!
  16. My estimated build was this week, just had an update and its now October! Still estimated though. All seems pretty random, I wonder what is the point of estimations TBH! (Ordered August '22)
  17. White, Pan roof, DCC, rev cam, winter PK, self park, HUD and 19" black Estorils. The HK was not an option at the time. I'm kinda prepared to wait till next year, got to admit though I've been eyeing up used alternatives. A late A35 AMG seems a good option, with the Aero PK but the seats are a bit off putting. Comfy though, sat in a new one recently. Very plush and looks great. I know I'll regret it if I cancel my order, plus I'll loose £400 from the deposit. Another potential 18 month wait though, 1st world problems but I dunno. On the fence about what to do!
  18. I have been given an estimated build of week 26, end of June/beginning of July this year from JCB. Ordered August '22. This could change though. Didn't realise some on here have been waiting nigh on 2 years.
  19. I wasn't aware of the R performance option, I'm in the UK so not available here. Also didn't realise the performance pack was not on the options list any more. I ordered through a broker, they had the performance pk listed. Just looked at VW's website and no PPK there. I was thinking it's a shame I won't get the bigger rear spoiler but no choice I guess. And no HK anymore, still happy with the spec though, pan roof and DCC were my priorities.
  20. Finally took the plunge on Friday and ordered my 8R. Not been on here since selling my 7R. Been told 16 months but I don't mind. Currently enjoying a GR Yaris which is great fun but I miss the all round capabilities of a Golf R. I Ordered White, Black Estorils, Pan roof, DCC, Park assist, Rear cam, Voice control, Winter pk and HUD.
  21. Coped with a very wet and windy Honister Pass with ease last year, other than that not really pushed the R over rough ground. This car seems to deal with whatever is thrown at it, even more so with decent rubber.
