I would be looking at no more than 60000 miles on the clock so wouldn't be too high. I have done 40000 miles since I have had the corsa so would do all servicing etc myself.
-
You make a good point actually. The only reason I am looking to sell the corsa is a family friend has just passed his test and he is adamant he wants the corsa so we will see if he buys it or not. MOT is due in March so I might just keep it and run it for another year if my pal doesn't buy it.
-
Its just putting 24-26k miles on a year. Would be on 100k in just over 2 years lol

Thats the dilemma I'm facing. I don't mind a manual but the wife won't drive a manual at all now. So when it's a nice summers day and on occasions if I want to drive the R to work then she won't drive the manual to work 🤣. I think she has taken my car off me over the last few months without me realising lol.

Haha definitely practical enough but also pretty ugly 😂

So to cut a long story short the wife now drives my R during the week and I use it on the weekend. This is basically to keep the mileage down as I do around 24000 miles a year as my daily commute. At the moment I drive my wife's 2008 corsa 1.3 cdti as it is only £30 a year to tax and averages 60mpg. The corsa now has around 89000 miles on the clock so within the next 4-6 months I will hit the 100k Mark so I need a replacement. With the wife now so used to driving the R and it being an auto she won't drive the manual. So I need a daily driver replacement with the below criteria and want some opinions as the only car I can really think of is an insignia or Passat. 1. Budget is £5000-£5500 2. Needs to get at least 50mpg 3. Must be auto and cheap to tax 4. Need something a bigger than the golf with ideally 5 doors 5. Not too old, 2010 onwards 6. No more than 60000 miles as this will last me around 2 years and I have had issues with higher mileage cars in the past so after the 2 years wouldn't want more than 110,000 on the clock and want to get at least half my money back after the 2 years. Thanks

Baffled by performance of my "R" (First post)

Yeah you are correct. It was the e92 335d coupe. It made maximum torque which was 550lbft and 2200rpm so as you can imagine it was fun in the wet 😅. Your best of stealing the Honda of your daily mileage is high. I've put 12000 miles on the corsa in 7 months so don't fancy putting those miles on the R. -

My wife uses it as her daily driver as I would put around 26000 miles a year on the R. I need the best of both worlds something she can drive easily and something I can enjoy on the weekend. My previous car was a mapped 335d and even though it felt quicker in gear it's difficult getting the power down this time of the year. -

If I'm honest tracking it doesn't interest me that much. Don't get me wrong the R is a very fast and capable car but I think sometimes it may not feel as quick due to the 4wd. It's ideal for me because I drive my wife's corsa cdti for commuting Monday to Friday and only drive the R on the weekend for the odd b road blast. -

I find that even stage 1 the in gear acceleration isn't mind blowing. 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear it's very quick with the dsg and 4wd grip but after that it's very flat. Maybe I'm just used to it now and need something faster 😂 -
I had the smallest of leaks a couple of month back and replaced water pump and radiator as there was a tiny leak on the radiator. Think it was around £600 parts and labour and no leaks since.
-
Thanks pal much appreciated. Think I'll take a look at the superpro arb too
-
At least you have warranty. Mine is stage 1 so thought the worse but was a cheap enough fix. Try not to think the worse 👍
-
Unfortunately that does not sound good. I didn't really lose much oil if any. Aparantly even a few drops of oil in the exhaust can cause a lot of smoke. Do you still have warranty?
-
It's my car on the other link. I had a similar issue, put my foot down and when I got up to decent speed a huge cloud of smoke but no loss of boost, pulled over for 5 minutes started the car again and smoke was gone. Went out again and tried on the same type of road and this time smoke again and went into limp mode. Turned car off and waited 10 minutes and then was fine again. Garage I go to did every test they could and everything was fine. Fault turned out to be the pcv valve had a slight leak so replaced that and done 300 miles since with no issues. Is the car smoking even after you have turned it off and on?

Hi all Replacing my brakes at the end of the month with better discs and pads and just put new Michelin rubber on. Thinking of getting some springs fitted at the same time. What's everyone's views on the eibach pro kit, my wife uses the R as a daily driver so don't want ride too stiff. There seems to be a few places selling the springs, anyone have a link to the cheapest place to buy them from? Also any other cheap handling mods that I should add whilst I'm there? Thanks

Upgrade discs and pads or remain standard.

Does anyone have the link for the grooved nitrac discs as there seems to be different types on their website? -

I think by the way this post is going I will get standard discs and pads for rear, what make is best brembo or pagid. For the fronts I think I'll get grooved nitrac front discs with tarox strada pads with race brake fluid. Should be a decent enough upgrade and not break the bank -

I need new pads for the rear too. Would you just get standard pads for the rear -

Thanks for the info, checked the website and the discount still works. How much roughly are the ebc pads for front and rear. I know the ds2500 are around £350 which seems pricey. -
I know this topic has been covered numerous times but want everyone's advice onto whether I should upgrade discs and pads or remain standard. Basically I have had 4 new tyres fitted and noticed that the rear brake pads don't have much life left in them and the front brakes I think are slightly warped as the pads on the front are fairly new but at higher speeds vibrate when braking. Now the car will never be tracked and my wife drives the car during the week and I use it in the weekend for more spirited driving. The car is running stage 1 map at the moment. Now I have 3 options and don't know what to do. 1. Replace all discs and pads with standard equipment from euro parts, pagid or brembo for around £280 plus fitting. (Will brand new discs and pads be sufficient for stage 1?) 2. Upgrade all discs and pads to nitrac drilled and grooved for around £350 and then source a good set of pads, everyone keeps mentioning ds2500 pads which would be £350 for front and rear so £700 all in plus fitting. Any alternative cheaper pads which are just as good? 3. Final option is to upgrade the front discs and pads and put standard discs and pads on the rear which will be around £430 all in. I would normally just go for option 2 but spent around £1500 in the past 2 months on replacing all 4 tyres, oil change, radiator and water pump replacement along with new pcv valve. And alongside this Christmas is approaching. I can afford all options but for weekend spirited driving what would you go for? Thanks

I had my coolant going down slowly 3 weeks ago, there was a slight leak in the Water pump and radiator so replaced both
-
So cars been to the garage and it looks like the pcv valve needed replacing as there was oil in the inlet manifold. All replaced and car seems fine.
