Well have been away for three odd years from my R, am thinking of purchasing nearly new R estate Mk8- Can you still update the Sat Nav with personal POI'S? Are there many problems with the MK 8 now?
-
Thanks, will always keep an eye on the other side! Once haven never forgotten!

Well after two very enjoyable years with my Golf R Estate, just have the weekend to use it and enjoy its capabilities. All in all to date in my 30++ years of driving I can certainly say that it has been the best and most enjoyable, closely followed by my RS focus mk2. The R is a vehicle that I have lost the least in depreciation, obviously a sort after car on the secondhand market. I must be getting older and more sensible! that may be questionable, as I am going back to the Audi range, and I am collecting my new Q5 on Monday. This forum has been a source of excellent knowledge and advice. Hope you all continue to enjoy the R's that you own, dont pick up to many speeding tickets! May well return to this forum later down the road, who knows.

Well I had the no warning problem checked out at same time as the service. Dealers said they could find no problem and the car should have given me a warning. Ha Ho, might not be problem for much longer, after 2 happy years with the car considering selling it and moving to another make. Looking at alternatives this weekend.

Mine is a keyless system as well, it's coming upto its second service so my battery has lasted nearly 2yrs. Will mention this occurrence when it goes in. Will most certainly carry spare battery with me if I'm going away on holiday etc.
-
Went out to car this morning only to find my key fob would not open door. No previous warning on dash in past week had come up warning of battery getting low. Very fortunate that this occurred while at home as I had the spare key handy. Would have been different outcome if I had be been away on holiday with no spare key present. Only warning that had come up in past week plus was that service was due. Have now replaced the battery easy job.

Yep will be checking with the dealer.

No using same key and same driver profile

The presets and logos were fine yesterday, when I started up today all the preset stations on DAB and there logos were gone. Anybody else had the same problem?

Glad your repair was good, dropped mine off Monday afternoon for the supposed two days being Tuesday and Wednesday, no call received to say it had been done, will be ringing this morning. Have now got my car back and repair spot on this time. Shame it took two visits and seven days.
-
Hope yours turns out alright. Mine goes back Monday afternoon for another two days for respray of damage caused to the leading edge of the door. Fingers and toes crossed this time. 🤞🤔

This saga roles on, got call from Barrons car had been done, on collection found an awful repair!!!!! Spot the difference! refused to sign any paperwork and left it with the body shop manager to sort out. Looked like a blue felt tip cover up of the damage or at best a touch up pencil... The manager has called me to say that this was not on the job card to be done!!! saying he can only think it was a bit of over spray that got through the masking tape when they sprayed the door when repairing the bent in bottom corner of the door. He said that they will require the car for a further two days to rectify the damaged paint work. But the car was booked in for warranty work and repair to damage caused by VW 'Robinsons' as per confirmation email I received from Barrons, when I questioned what they were going to be doing to the car. Looks like I will be without the R for two more long days.

Parking at an Airport 'valet style' car park...??

The saga continues. The Dealers (VW Approved repair shop) Barrons, contacted me last Friday and booked my car in for 11am Monday this week. Was originally told by the dealers that the car would be required for two days but when booked in with Barrons, was advised that they would require vehicle for three day! Dropped car off Monday. Nothing heard from Barrons as to progress so I gave them a call yesterday - Thurdays around mid day, on my call being answered just said, " I'm enquiring into my car that is in for repair with you" I did not give my name or my car details. The reply came that it was still being worked on! after three and a half days! for the minor scuff to the paint work and the damage caused when the dealers dropped my drivers side door while replacing the trim. Picture below. Girl offered to go and find out how far along the repair was. A few minutes later she returned to tell me it was awaiting to go into the paint booth, and that they only had two of them. So the wait goes on to get my car back, the delay can not be because they are busy as it would appear from the details I gave and the conversation, my car must be the only one they are working on. VERY SLOWLY!!!!! Hope the repair is tip top, but I some how see that they will be having the car for a further period.

Well the two days turned into two and a half, due to wrong part on one side delivered. But bad news followed the good news that my car had had both inner wings replaced, and doors adjusted. When I went to collect the poor lad on service reception had the job of telling me that they had dropped the offside door on removal. Damage consisted of bent bottom right corner of door. Stated that this would be seen to when car goes into body shop for the paint repair. Would have thought that this duty to inform me of the damage should have been down to service manage. At least they did not try to cover up, damage hard to notice unless you know it's there. But I would have noticed next wash day or certainly at pre winter polish.
-
Well Dealers have had it from this morning, have just been contacted to say that on close inspection the front passengers door has got same defect and it has just started to brush paint work on leading edge of door. No clear obvious Mark in paint as yet. So both inner wing linings faulty. Check you R carefully.
-
Think it my be the first of a few then. Hope they dont want you car for ax long as mine over two separate visits. One for the repair to door then second for the paint work.

I'm giving serious consideration to getting my R Estate vinyl wrapped. Coming up to a year old now with only 4500 miles on the clock and the very soft paint is showing plenty of small stone chips. Have tried to touch them in but they are still noticeable. Has anyone had their vehicle done? If so what was the cos? Have yet to look into the price to get it done or for a good place to have it done preferably in Norfolk.
-
Would appear to be a common fault then.it is only effecting the drivers door on mine at this time. But passengers side is not opened and closed nearly as many times. Will be keeping an eye on it. If you look closely you can see where it is fowling. Interesting yours appears to be higher up.

Front Leading Edge Drivers Door Fowling Internal wing trim. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A small 1cm leading endge of my drivers side door has been fowling a piece of the internal wing trim, wearing away the paint. Car going in Monday for it to be repaired. They require the car for two, yes two days, to rectify the problem. If they are unable to sort the existing trim they will have to order in a new piece of trim, hence the requirement for two day just in case. Then the car will have to be booked in with the body shop for the repair of the paint work, another two days required. I did ask the question why they could not take the door to the paint shop while it was off and for the full repair to be completed in two days. No was their reply this was not possible as it was not how they worked. so the door has to be removed twice, mad or what.

Sad but I can remember purchasing 1 gallon for 34p, when I first started to drive.

Yep No Bing or Bong or active display, will just have to keep one eye on main info screen. Will just have to change car to a newer one! This one not a year old yet!! Might have to put advaced order of Mk 8...... Andy - Ref the Passat problem, similar result - no newer software, not what you / your mate will want to hear.
