  1. I’m not sure how you intend to drive but I’ve had my R 7.5 a little over a month and it’s almost too quick for the public roads. A few seconds on the accelerator and your way past the limit. I love mine but I am no where near the peak of its performance, for those worrying about ‘loosing power’ it’s got far far more than you need in day to day driving and that’s with having a few squirts too! There’s police all over and not to mention speed cameras etc. Maybe I’m old and too sensible but I enjoy my car and don’t intend to drive it like I’ve stolen it when I’m just popping to Sainsbury’s, it’s a golf, the best of both worlds, 0-60 in less than 5 seconds - that’s quick enough.

    MPG!!

Which setting in the individual menu have you set to get the valves open? Engine sound to Race?
  3. I must admit these last few days I’ve had mine in race mode and DSG in D, I’ve certainly had more noise out the back end if you pardon the expression! This is in a new 7.5 with 320 miles on the clock. Still on the first thank of fuel so I’m not doing too bad! Ha
  4. What about if I want it to remain in auto?
  5. So am I right in thinking the following? Car in Race Mode, DSG in D - flaps shut. Car in Race Mode, DSG in S - flaps open. Car in any Mode, DSG in S - flaps stay open Is there a way to have car in race mode, DSG in D but have the flaps open so as to get the sound but not have the car revving massively before changing, especially if doing town/slowish driving?
  6. Just picked up a brand new R 7.5, loving the car but is there a way to display the road speed limit on the active info screen when in navigation mode? Also I was under the impression that speed cameras would be highlighted on the display but I haven’t seen this yet. My car is totally standard. Thanks!
  7. Lol enjoy the car, I certainly am and have only done about 50 miles. I think I’ll get rather friendly with the local petrol station after having my GTD though!
  8. Enjoy! That’s the same trailer mine came on - it had a white polo on it too that I saw first and panicked thinking they’d transferred the wrong car! Ha
  9. Thank you! It’s worth the wait. It was simple, friendly driver unloaded it and asked if I wanted shown around the car, I told him I had a GTD and was happy to find things for myself and that was that. This is is by far the most powerful care I’ve driven and it just has a feeling that it’s raring to go all the time. Sometimes it feels a tad lumpy pulling away but I think I’m just being nervous with the throttle as you get a sudden burst of power and it’s time to hang on! Haven’t really got going enough to hear it properly and from a couple of blasts in S mode you have to be travelling at a fair old lick before you get the good, albeit fake noise! Appe car play is fab too and the active display is very good if a bit daunting at first as there’s so many icons and dials! Much fun to be had and hopefully this is the experience others have had/are going to get!
  10. Mine got delivered today and it’s great! A massive step up from the MK7 GTD. It’s scary fast and so eager to go. Hope others have had theirs turn up!
  11. Roll on 8am for yours Davey! Enjoy it, I’m sure you will!
  12. Hopefully yours will be with you soon Cammie! I’m excited to get mine - the auto box will take some getting used to I expect.
  13. Excellent news! Mines coming from Stratford to Newcastle so I’m thinking it will arrive by lunchtime! Be sure to update this when your staring at your new car 😀 Just beeen to purchase some cleaning products! It’s all rather exciting!
  14. Just to add to the comments, I have just organised insurance for my first Golf R, coming in at £650/year £300 compulsory excess with Admiral. This is on a brand new Mk7.5 5dr DSG in north east england. I'm 32 and have been driving since I was 18 (6yrs NC's due to work schemes etc), the car is in a high insurance bracket so this (for me) is the most I've paid to insure a vehicle aside from the first couple of years when I had a 1.2 Corsa. My advice echo's the above, learn to drive first by having a few years under your belt - get used to driving in the dark, snow/ice, busy motorways etc. I'm nervous enough about picking my new car up and I've done all this, I think nowadays there's so many distractions with infotainment, features etc that its very easy to loose concentration when you've just passed, couple that to the fact you may well have people in the car distracting you too. Learn in a banger (the sense of freedom after not being able to drive outweighs the novelty of the car you're actually in, for me it did) save money, experience the road and then see whats available.
  15. Same for me! I’m pleased it’s coming on a trailer as they said it would be driven up when the order was placed. Hopefully Friday is a happy day for both of us!
  16. Ah at least it’s at the dealer now. Do you live far from the dealer? I told mine to just do the bare minimum prep to get it to me. I’ll be like a kid on xmas eve come Thursday night! Ha
  17. Are you collecting Friday? I’ve just sorted insurance on mine today - it’s getting a bit real now! Thank god! Fingers crossed yours is ready for Friday!
  18. What kind of mileage are you looking to do to run in? I’ve read everything from ‘not needing to run the car in’ to about 1000 miles?!
  19. Sounds good! Roll on Friday for me!
  20. Just wondering if anyone else is collecting their new Golf this week? I’m picking mine up on Friday! Anyone got any suggestions for best things to do first off?
  21. Finally I have a delivery date, 20th July so a week today - can’t wait! Happy days!
  22. Ah that’s great! I’m hoping mine shows up today. Hopefully they will turn yours around super quick and you’ll get it next week!
  23. Hearing comments like this makes the wait even harder! Haha. Pleased your enjoying your new car!
  24. I phoned and got told they are currently expecting my car any day now, it could arrive tomorrow. They have advised (as has been said in the thread) there are delays at UK port and some cars have been driven off the ship straight to dealers, some have been placed in holding (mine) and it’s just quantity of cars due to the new emmision testing that’s causing problems. They advised it’s a 72hr turn around and they deliver every day. I’d give them a call and see if yours is at the same stage. They have a list of registration numbers to choose from too so you can pick from the list. Let me know how you get on.
