Picking the new car up tomorrow morning. Very excited. Dealer has offered a service plan for £399 (two services). Not sure if that's a good spend or not? I received my "Your Golf is on its way" email yesterday morning. Exciting. Does anyone know where those ships are? Happy New Year everyone.

Spoke to the dealership today who reckons it will be a January pickup. That suits perfectly and will be a good way to begin the year.

I received an email from VW on 11 December to say they had confirmed the build date as 25 November. Then received another email on 12 December to say that it has passed quality control and is ready to go Can't wait!

So if build week is approx 4 weeks away, is it likely that I'll get delivery January/ February? Just as long as I get it registered before the VED tax hike doubles on 1 April

I ordered mine on 1/10/24. Got an "ordered received" email on 4/10/24. Got my "Production will shortly begin" notification this morning.

It's less than DTD, but we can't get DTD in Northern Ireland which is pain

So, despite the title of the thread I'm coming round to the idea of the 8.5 (as I suspected I might I had an initial chat with dealer this week and it's not as bad as I feared. It helps that the value of mine is still quite high. Previously when I've ordered a new Golf, the dealer has agreed a part exchange price for the old car and offered to hold that price until the new car is delivered. Seems less keen this time, but is offering 2k above top book price, no matter what that will be when the new car arrives. That introduces a degree of uncertainty in terms of the cost to change of course. He also mentioned the PCP deal with the VW contribution of 2.5k which makes it even more attractive price wise, but I've never done one of those before. I presume you can pay it off early though... Some thinking to be done!

Indeed. I wasn't impressed. Especially as I was leaving when he said (in all sincerity) "thanks for the update". Bloody hell VW UK. Doesn't bode well for comms and customer service across UK if people want to order. He actually said "that literally must have just gone on the configurator". We've been talking about it for weeks so we know that ain't right. Oh dear. How sad. Never mind.

Having posited this thread, and as I am a contrary bugger, I called into my local dealer this afternoon to see what the lead in time for a new R would be. I figured let's not bite your nose off to spite your face just yet (and DrivetheDeal unfortunately don't cover Northern Ireland). And, in truth, I could well end up staying with VW if the right deal on the right configuration can be achieved. So, having asked 'how long currently is estimated delivery on a new Golf R?' I was told 'VW aren't manufacturing the Golf R anymore'... Where is the facepalm emoji?

Annoying that DtD doesn't cover NI. I was just wondering that!
