@dv52 Hi Don. Thanks for you reply to my simple question 😀 it is much appreciated. I have had the old hex can cable for a few years and used on an 06 Octvia an 08 Passat and my trusty 2013 Exeo with no issues but I now have a 2020 Golf R 7.5 and a 2020 Leon FR 1.5.
My main interest would be simply to check any error codes generated and decide if I could fix and clear them myself or decide a visit to a workshop was needed. I would also like to to do some changes like turning down the soundaktor ect.

Hi Folks. I have an older VCDS hex+usb+can cable that I used on my previous cars and have just found out that it can't read my R, should I replace it with the later version 2 or OBD11. Is the old cable worth anything now?
Mike
I often use a Ctek charger on my cars and had a bolt on lead on the 996 but when I tried to fit it to the R I found that the battery clamp nuts can not be removed from the bolts. has anyone fitted a charger cable another way. I dont like using the crocodile clips.

Thanks for your comments folks. The 996 was a very enjoyable weekend toy and as such the mileage was low 65k and with the need to replace the Exeo I was looking for something to replace both in one package and I must say the R is an absolute hoot and I am using it a lot more than I did the 996. To me the wagon looks understated compared to the hatch. Now I have a wolf is sheeps clothing without the paranoia of a possibly very expensive visit to Hartech.
Just joined the site, I have recently bought a 2020 R estate to replace my 11 year old Exeo estate which unfortunately met with an untimely end. in order to fund the R I sold my 2003 Porsche 996.
So far the R is living up to expectations. Nice to be here.
