  1. Hi All, wanted to share my awful experience with my local VW dealer regarding the service of my GOLF R, and hopefully get some advice on options. Sorry for the long post, but the details are important. The car, 2016 MK7, DSG, 30K miles, unmodified- went into the dealer for a routine service- oil & filter + Haldex fluid and filter clean. The car was collected from my home and returned back to me later that evening. The next day using the car- I immediately felt/ heard a shudder/ vibration and wheel scrubbing sensation from the rear of the car on sharp left and right low speed turns. First thing that went through my head is oh no, they've forgot to refill the haldex system. I immediately called the garage back asking that they look at it immediately, and to ask for a courtesy car to drive - as i feared id be doing more damage. No courtesy car was offered and therefore the car was used until the following week when it went back in for diagnosis. The haldex was flushed and filled and returned to me stating that the car has no issues. it took a fairly assertive call with the service manager to find out that they had actually flushed out debris in the fluid. I refused to sign the their documentation to say that i was happy until i had tested the car. The following day , sure enough the noise was back, so i called back asking them to correct the problem. The next available appointment was 3 weeks later (They refused to collect the vehicle immediately- stating they were too busy-and they said they dont do courtesy cars...? ) during which time i was using the car gently to get to work- with the rear end noise apparent the whole time. As a qualified engineer, this leads me to believe that a)the system was under-filled, b) not filled at all or 3) the incorrect fluid used e.g if a non friction fluid was used this would be the end of the haldex clutches) A car of this mileage should not experience a failure of this sort. After delivering the car and demonstrating the fault to the master tech, I requested a video diagnosis (as is fairly standard practice with main dealer services) which showed that the oil removed each time had debris, sediment and clutch fibre contamination. After the 3rd visit to the workshop, the dealer concluded that a new haldex system was required, and that they would offer no financial contribution to it. The bill sent for a replacement haldex system is just under £5,500 for which VW are saying i am responsible-as their view is that i supplied the car to them with the fault- which to me is absolutely sickening and disgusting. With a high pressure job and a 5 month old baby, this stress is the last thing i need. -If the haldex was damaged to start with they would have found evidence during the first service! -The car has been faultless until i handed it over to VW! Ive also consulted a transmission specialist who have said they've never seen a haldex failure on a low mileage VAG car and that they had heard horror stories of the same main dealer. After several heated conversations with the service manager- this now looks set to go to legal action, I've requested that communication now switches to written and i am about to contact the Motor Industry ombudsman to raise a case- which could mean going to court. Has anyone else been in this situation, have any advice, did you manage to get a successful conclusion? I find it absolutely appalling that the dealer are denying any wrong doing and that they system was broken before the service- its an insult! Its really has ruined 3 years of joyful motoring in the R and really tainted the VW brand for me- i will never go back. Thanks David
  2. Anyone else experienced this? It’s happened 3-4 times now in the space of a few months... When I’m exiting a roundabout or going down a large road bump at normal speed (not booting by any means) I have experienced a loss of power for a slight second and the traction light flashes It happens irregularly and i have no issues with traction when flying around corners and doing launches (manual car). Booked in for Monday at the dealership for a look into it as it’s still under warranty. (Golf R MK7 2015 Manual)
  3. Hi Guys, Looking for some guidance... I have a 2015 golf R DSG with 60K miles. I had the Haldex serviced by VW in December last year and no problems reported. I then had a stage 1 map done in Jan and immediately noticed loads of front wheel spin. This was possibly happening before but probably hadn't driven it hard for a while so not noticed. I popped back to the garage that had done the stage one and they hooked it up to their diagnostics and diagnosed Haldex pump failure, this was replaced and they said all was good, but the wheel spin still remained. with ESC on in first and second if I floor it the ESC Light just goes mad and the car bogs down in the first 2 gears. in ESC sport mode the front wheels just spin, 1st is unusable and 2nd is not much better! I've since read just about every post on the internet but still have questions and cant really find a post that covers the whole drive train and also the relationship between the various other systems such as ESC & ESC sport, ABS etc. I appreciate there has to be a limit to physical grip but reading loads of posts, sounds like I should be able to get the power down without all this wheel spin even with the stage 1! Q. I understand the Haldex system and how it transfers up to 50% torque to the rear. my question is about the bit before that, there must be some sort of from diff that splits the power between the front and rear drive shafts, are the front and rear drive shafts always spinning at the same speed? lets assume the Haldex doesn't exist and it's a solid drive shaft to the rear diff would my front and rear wheels be turning at the same speed in a straight line or say for instance my front wheels are on ice and my back wheels where on dry tarmac would my front wheels just spin or are the drive shafts fixed so they must turn at the same speed so my gripping back wheels would just push me forward? you can probable tell from this I'm not mechanical! I'm sure this is a stupid question but from a non mechanical guy I'm thinking it's possible for the inner and out wheels on the same axel to spin at different speeds when cornering so I'm applying that logic and thinking it may be possible for front and rear wheels to spin at different speeds. The other half of my brain is shouting well that would defeat the point of 4 wheel drive, but I'm asking it anyway please don't be too patronising... I think what I'm trying to get at is if the front and rear axles must spin at the same speed then it would be impossible to spin the front wheels and not the back at the same time so in my case points back to the Haldex system still not functioning correctly.
