Reps tend to have slightly different offsets (45mm or even 41mm) and the OEM VW centre caps do not always fit.

Some are often wider than the standard 8J too (at 8.5J).

I'm not saying this is always the case,  but be cautious if these are important to you :afro:

A mate of mine bought GTI Monza reps a few years ago and they lasted about 4 month during the winter before they were so corroded they needed refurbed. It was diamond cut alloys though.

If you just sell me yours Scott I wouldn't have any of these problems ha ha ha

new ones or used ones I'll take

Another issue with reps is if you hit a pothole you don't know how good the far eastern castings are.

Some will be better than others obviously because they come from a variety of sources but I doubt if many will have CE markings or TUV approval.

Basically if you hit a pothole you don't know if you will destroy the wheel which might end up taking the rest of the car with it in an extreme case. On the flip side, at least the wheel would be cheaper to replace than a standard one!

Just look at the spindly spokes of the Pretoria wheels and bear in mind the factory ones are made specially rather than just a basic casting like most of the replicas will be.

The only really good company I know of that makes Euro approved replicas are an Italian company called WSP but they don't do Pretorias yet.

I follow Golf alloys on Ebay a lot,  and can't remember seeing a nice set of Prets  !

There's a refurbed one here at the moment though which looks a fair price if the tyre has good tread IMHO     :

Your best bet is to setup an Ebay search with daily email alerts for a number of possible matches :

"Genuine VW 19" Pretoria Alloys"

"Genuine Golf R 19" Alloys"

"OEM Golf R Pretoria Wheels"

etc....

Then if a set appears contact the seller asap and offer cash on collection asap before the auction ends.

They nearly all get sold this way before the auction finishes.

It's best to go and see them and pay cash on collection .. even if its a long journey.

Have you considered Non OEM that look similar (some may say better )

When I was considering taking a demo car on 18" Cadiz (of which I am not a fan ) I did some hunting around and came up with the Rotiform SPF as my favourites. Do a search here as I think someone has a red car with them on?
