Seanyo33
Hello Basically I have a 64 plate manual R. Its the updated turbo model from that year. Ive had the car nearly 3 years and this has never happened, so I don't put it down to human error (at least for now) I was doing some spirited driving the other day and changing gear from 3rd to 4th. As soon as I changed the car felt like it just missed the gear and it didn't feel right. Almost like it didn't make it into 4th, to which I stopped accelerating straight away and changed back down. I didn't think to much of it, and just thought I messed up. But today the same thing happened. Traveling at high revs/high speed, changing 3rd to 4th. I pull the stick down into where 4th is and the car just completely slows down. (I believe there was a thud sound or something) But the car completely slows down and I have to change back to 3rd. I have no idea about the engine/gear/clutch. But has anything like this happened to anyone in here? Driving normally it's totally fine, or changing at high revs in lower gears. Thanks Edited August 23, 2020 by Seanyo33
ChrisS
That does sound strange. I have a manual and the issue I had was with it snagging going into 5th, like it would would get part way in but go no further. Coming back into neutral and then into 5th again and it would go in fine. This was regardless of speed, would be fairly random but sometimes high speed, sometimes just pootling It had a gearbox rebuild under warranty as the diagnosis was sunken cones (or something) Sounds a bit different to yours though? gregozedobe
Do you think it is an engine or a clutch/gearbox problem ? ie, did it go into gear but the engine wasn't producing power, or did the engine rev without driving the car forward ? Golf67
Is it hitting the Rev limiter in 3rd? Is it fully hot maybe it went into some self protection mode.
BD.
Potentially the lower engine mount has excessive play causing difficulty when selecting gears, i had this issue changing aggressively 2nd-3rd which an apr dog bone insert cured mostly.
