grale22
I'm sure this must have been discussed plenty of times before, but doesn't come up when I search, so thought I'd report on a recent leak I've had from the roof and the fix. I've got a Mk7 Estate which suddenly developed water dripping down from the interior light section, where it meets the windscreen. Thought it was the fault of a recent windscreen replacement initially due to location, but tested the panoramic roof drains and found the driver's side one was blocked. Easy enough fix, bought the VW tool for it, took apart the trays at the back of the engine bay to get to the sunroof drain points (which is a bit awkward) and fed the tool up the drains. A load of water and gunk came out and problem solved. Definitely one to look at yourself before involving a dealer if you have get that type of leak. Good save mate, we’ll done you. The likely cost of this repair at a Dealer is terrifying. There seems to be a few owners who have problems with the Pano roof, cracking, leaking, seal issues. Not an option ai went for.

It's a long plastic tube with brass ends. Not high tech, but you just feed it up the drains until it reaches the top. VeeDubDan
Great post. I’ve had the same issue with my estate/pano roof. Water coming through headliner around interior light. Don’t suppose you took any pictures of where the drain line comes out? sss555

Water coming through headliner around interior light. Don’t suppose you took any pictures of where the drain line comes out? No pictures I'm afraid, but I can explain where they are. If you open the bonnet, there's a plastic tray that runs across in front of the wiper blades. You need to remove it as the drain plugs come out right in the corners at the back (one each side). They're a bit awkward to get to, but the passenger side is slightly easier. I had to unbolt my wiper motor on the drivers side as I couldn't reach past it, but you might have small enough hands to do it. Once you get the plastic tray off, get your hand in and you'll find a little rubber grommet coming down from the top. That's the drain. It has a rubber cover over the end (insect deterrent I think) and that's what gets clogged up. Give it a squeeze and if there's any water in there it will suddenly come out. You can test if your drain holes are blocked before doing this though by opening your sunroof, then in both front corners there a little hole, which is the drain. Pour water down there and it should either start coming out under the car, or three drain pipe will fill up and the water won't drain away. Then you know that's likely your problem. slider09
I’ve recently sold my Golf R and moved to a Tiguan. First thing I saw on the Tiguan forums was to remove the sunroof ‘spider traps’. Assuming the Golf and Tiguan share the same design.
