Ian S
Having hit a few potholes now, a couple quite heavily, my car (Mk 7 Golf R) now creaks a bit when turning at low speed (e.g. out of the drive). If one of the shock absorbers has gone, can it be replaced by "any old mechanic", without needing knowledge of the DCC system, or would the mechanic need specialist knowledge and equipment? Is the DCC built into the shocks themselves (and are they therefore expensive) or is it built into the chassis? (My car is booked in for an MOT tomorrow (at a non-specialist) and am trying to figure out what I will need to do if they say the shock has gone.) Thanks!! Arryjmc
Hi @Ian S The DCC relates to a plug on the shock which controls it, and yes they are more expensive. It does not need any special equipment to fit other than spring compressors for the front springs. I changed all of my DCC suspension to Bilstein without any issues. Hope that helps. Jens0n
Just two weeks ago I had a leaking front shock (DCC) replaced under warrantee. I was advised it's a £500 repair by my vw dealer. Sorry can't offer any technical info. J
Bingodalton
If oem is expensive, you can buy Bilstein B4 Damptronic. They are DCC and cost almost hapf of oem. There is also B6, should be improvement to oem and B4.20% more expensive than B4.Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
LouCyffer
Before you go as far as replacement shocks, I’d suggest you read these links. The R is stiff, and commonly creaks at low speeds. Particularly at full lock and slow speed, it’s well known. Mine was quite noisy (also DCC) until dealt with by the dealer. There’s some info in the links below.
