  1. What really makes me laugh is DSG drivers suggesting that it is 'infinitely faster' Was there any mention of anyone being 'obsessed' with a manual being faster in a drag race? Just reporting on what is being stated by a DSG driver on the Audi Forum. If anyone bothered asking me, I would have said the DSG was faster. But dont let the facts get in the way of your opinion. And on that note, I'm out of here!
  2. Out of interest It is currently being discussed for the S3 on Audisport - and the figures I gave, were what were quoted there from someone with DSG who does drag runs. These are 3 posts from there : But it does not make a big difference, the engine should produce decent torque at 1500 rpm, but it just doesn't. I'm not complaining, and not regretting to choose the DSG, I only wish the limit of 200 launches would not exist. I'm at 3000 miles and already down to about 180. Not exactly, because I would never launch a manual car at 1500 rpm, it would be rather 4500-5500 depending on clutch and surface. A manual car runs the 1/4 mile in 13.2-13.3secs, with a bit less terminal speed. It's all about the launch, and that's something you just can't do withot LC If you use the launch control, yes, otherwise, no chance (decent driver driving). Of course, it's different from let's say 30 to 100, then every time Stronic wins, no question. With LC I was running 12.8-12.9 at the drag strip, without it, 13.6-13.7.
  3. Out of interest, does anyone know the 0-62 comparison for a DSG R - when not using Launch Control? On the S3 forum they reckon the DSG is slower (5.8s) unless LC is used, when its 4.8s. The manual is 5.2s. I assume thats similar for the R?
  4. I previously went for a DSG mk 5 R32, and never gelled with it. When it got stolen, I couldn't wait to get back to manual. All 4 cars since then have been manual. I can see the positives with autos (traffic jams etc) but I also found key issues which didn't suit me. For example - approaching a fast roundabout.........seeing if all is clear and then shifting from say 6th to 3rd in one shift. Each to their own, but as others have said, I wouldn't have a auto even if it was a free option.
  5. Thankyou Stubsy. Pro boxers make something incredibly difficult look easy. In many ways it's like golf! Mayweather is the highest paid sportsman in the world. He makes it look effortless, but this is his day job 363 days a year to get to that level, from being a kid: Floyd Mayweather Jr: The Training Of Greatness: Train, train, train, repetition, repetition, repetition. In that vid he does some of the mitt work looking at the camera. And whatever he is doing, his balance is always spot on....... So that he could move forward, backward, left or right for either attack or defence in an instant, at any time, regardless of what his hands are doing. I often end up liking the training vids more than the fights, as you appreciated the sweet science a lot more.
  6. Just wondering if anyone knows who/where this is? Just happened last BH Monday. http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showth ... p?t=992265
  7. The best man.....just....won (again). Groves needs to be a bit more humble going forward. The double decker bus makes you look a right idiot it you then lose! And as a lifelong boxer, that was no fluke/lucky punch. Unless you consider thousands of hours practice in the gym not relevant. Boxing is a dynamic sport improved by repetition. You train, train, train so that reacting to anything is 2nd nature. Then you train some more, so you can land with power when needed. That requires split second balance and timing of the whole body. Mayweather demonstrates it well. He will punch/block/slip/parry/duck everything thrown at him in practice and still stay balanced: Mayweather A Beast In The Mitts: Groves is young. He can still come back from this and be something special in the future. All in all, its been great for British boxing. It's been higher profile ever since the Olympics. Lots more people coming training nowadays.......especially women. Great way to keep in shape, even if you aint going to fight:
  8. I have never heard of an insurer not paying out when the keys have been stolen from the house and then the car taken. However, they will almost certainly never pay out if you leave your keys in the car (defrosting etc) as this is classed as not taking reasonable precautions.
  9. I would also be thinking a bit differently if I were you....... Depending on where you work in Manchester and the parking you have at work. Having lived that area all my life and worked for years in Manc city centre - I would be driving to the Met station at Altrincham (or train at Birchwood) - parking up -then get the tram/train into town. Much quicker. All depends on where you work and work car parking though.
  10. Maybe time to dig out that old Crooklock! https://uk.news.yahoo.com/thousands-car ... 16589.html
  11. Welcome from the other resident S3 owner on here. I had a 6R previously and would have been happy with the 7R or S3 .........but the g/f has just got a Golf GT Cab, so made sense to go for something different. It's a good forum here........prefer it to Audi sport etc. Here's mine..... Not the best picture granted.
  12. I sold a couple of months ago on Autotrader. Mk 6 / July 2010 / Manual / 40k miles / Black / pretty basic spec but great condition. I got £16,500 iirc.
  13. I would like to think I may poke my head in I am still going to come on here as well!
