  1. Correct - the force operating on a clutch is torque, however I expect the horsepower might be relevant once a clutch plate is slipping... I high horsepower car will be delivering highish torque very frequently at high revs (that's what horsepower is), hence why these drivers are reporting slipping at high engine revs. I think a damaged clutch will slip more frequently higher up the revs.
  2. Good point.... Increased weight might have popped it a band.
  3. Also... Like many parts in a golf, they buy them. Surely alloys are a prime candidate to procure rather than produce?
  4. Potentially some market research guides these decisions. If the UK has shown significant uptake of an alloy option previously and it results in more profit then that's what they'd do. Perhaps the uptake is only significantly higher in the UK where the alloy option is an upgrade not only in look but in size. My other theory is that they've procured 18" and 19" Cadiz for flexibility and they've matched regional availability with market size e.g. they've procured 10k units of 18 inch Cadiz and they've projected 10k ish of R sales specced with cadiz in the UK. Who really knows though....
  5. As far as I remember, the person who reported Conti-5s on Prets was a July 2014 build....
  6. I said nothing about "real men". Where did you get that from? I assume you've read too much between the lines. I would never say something so backward. Manual drivers have a snobby attitute towards dsg, saying its for town driving so they can claim the "sporty" argument. I'm pointing out that they'd feel perfectly engaged in a dsg if they could find the limits of the car which the vast majority of drivers will chicken out before they do. So to repeat, manual transmission makes slow driving feel "sporty"! Dsg is a much better gearbox than manual in all but one tangible assessment - cost.
  7. If you can't feel engaged while driving a dsg box it means you lack the capability to drive the car at its limits. IMO choosing a manual car to feel more engaged is a cop out. It means you can go slower and get the engagment feeling. The exciting choice is to take a dsg and drive FASTER. There are no disadvantages to dsg, manual is a cop out. F1 drivers are plenty engaged and they use switch shift, and have only 2 pedals (and hand clutches to start)
  8. I don't know how long you've been around the VW tracker. It's not a good thing. It means the VW tracker system is malfunctioning. Terrible news. As for your car, it's probably fine.
  9. BW4, 5b since 29th. Same boat as you (pun intended - i will continue to use this, shamelessly).
  10. I'm bw4. 5a last saturday. 5b this morning. Reckon its on schelde highway on it's way to Grimsby eta 1pm tomorrow. Same boat (lol) as you, taking it 1st march.
  11. Surely you can have your deposit back with a bit of pushing then. Good luck.
  12. Cry me a river. Some folks been waiting > 6 months
  13. Also.... having personally seen what's on offer on basic chevy models in the states, this is likely a response to the US market than anywhere else. Does that mean we don't get it over here? Who knows....
  14. It's extremely likely that it will be new hardware. Unless there is a severe deficiency in current MK7 software, any new platform that is intended to be a large upgrade will go through it's own procurement process. Typically making software fit for the current hardware will be more expensive than tendering out to the hardware firms (as it's likely to get a better price for a new contract than expand an existing one). This is all speculation, however I'm in software development, and that's the way I see it playing out.
  15. Any BW4 got build in progress text? Awaiting mine, but nothing as yet.
  16. What phone do you have?! I have it up on my 2560 x 1450 monitor and it looks crisp!
  17. Interesting. Such a varied spec. I missed out Vienna and DCC as well. I don't see any reason why ours are being built same week. Likely they have multiple production chains through the factory
  18. Nope. I think it's generally Sunday. Out of interest, what's your spec? Mine is black 5dr, dsg, pret (and others).
