Cheers Ash- I'm actually going to be skiing then so no can do but thank you for the offer! Would have been right round the corner. Hope they capture your (car's) good side. Or are you the snapper? Thanks will do! It makes me want to weep whenever I see it looking this dirty. I haven't even had time to fit the metal footrest or the sill protectors. I am a disaster!

Actually it might be 4,500. I'll check. Yeah I will do. Because I'm now allergic to taking it to cheap and dirty washes and haven't been able to get up to my parents', it's just covered in the Xmas motorway muck and layers of dust from our underground car park.

Thanks Slider. Yeah I am, so it's free, it's just a massive faff.

About 5,500. Thanks Bec

Ash was this the oil change service? Mine is only 7 months old and has come up saying the service is in 20 days. I can't reset the warning because I have keyless ignition. I'm not going to take it in already- seems ridiculous. Pointers welcome. p.s. hope everyone is well! My car is currently absolutely filthy.

I have to admit I am envious when I see how deep and lustrous a shine Bec gets with her wax and yours above CaRnage. Exo v2 still looks great, but I think it's 85% compared to that 100% awesomeness wax gets. At the end of the day though, I like the endurance of Exo as I don't have many opportunities to get a proper wash and detail in. It's nice to know I can just wash the car and it will gleam. When my Exo starts to run out I'll get it taken in for polishing, Crystal Serum and then Exo. That should improve the shine as my current Exo went straight onto factory paint.

That's the dream. When we get a house I'll invest. Out of interest, you see how my brake rotor plates are tarnished- how do you get rid of that? I gave it a good going over. Seen it on lots of cars though so guess it might just be a fact of life.

Yeah there were longstanding water spots on there from where it dried when filthy. They're really faint now but I know they're there! Ok for now. Will let the pros DA them away when I get it done properly in a year or so. Could also have been just drying after rinses because it was unfiltered and in a very hard water area. C'est la vie! Howdy all. Long time no speak. Work has been busy. Finally got up to my family home where there is a working tap. Took my buckets etc with me from London! Tried to use my bike portable pressure washer as a snow foam lance but it didn't work. Will just buy the bit for my rents' Karcher. Fairly pleased with the final result as a first proper maintenance wash, though there is some longstanding bug squash I just couldn't get off, think it's etched the paint. Was also concerned by water spots surviving all of the below and QD not buffing properly, could be heat? Wasn't hot but the friction caused streaking maybe? Should really have taken a before shot, as it was filthy. Order of service: Pressure wash rinse W4 Foam attempt and Bilt Hamber wheel cleaner Pressure wash rinse W6 bug remover Pressure wash rinse GWash wheels with wheel mitt, wheel bucket and grit guard and wheel woolies Pressure wash rinse wheels Gwash body 2bm Pressure wash rinse Open hose sploosh dry Dry with mf towels QD and buff panels M1 metal polish exhausts G4 polish windscreen G6 perfect glass all windows and screens T1 dress tyres Go and have a shower and get lunch because knackered Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I can't usually remember my bad dreams but the night before last I had an awful one and it was so vivid I still remember it clearly now. For some reason my wife had let an old lady learn to drive in my R. We lived in a little village and there weren't any other small cars for her to learn on, so it was the neighbourly thing to do. For some reason a local mechanic was her driving instructor and he said he knew cars and appreciated detailing so I was a little less apprehensive about the old biddy learning in mine. One day I came back from work to find the old lady reversing out of the garage and she scraped the side of the car. I went "that's it, this experiment is over, I was trying to be accommodating but you're an awful driver and can't use my car anymore." The instructor tried to argue there wasn't a scratch but once I got my MF's out and put it under lights and had a go at the scratched bit, it turned out the whole car was covered in scratches, dents, scratched graffiti and matte paint where they had tried to hide it. It was monstrous. It was so bad, my local garage wrote the car off and for some reason I wasn't insured as I'd let the car out of my possession. I felt actual grief. Conclusion: I think my dreams are trying to tell me never to let anyone else drive or take care of my car.

Totally not helpful! I even said "all the same, given the way the policy is worded I would like to record my optional extras" and she just refused.
-
OK this throws a spanner into the works. I am now on Direct Line, and while it did not give me the option to add modifications when I signed up, I read the policy document and it clearly states that optional extras which are not part of the standard specification count as modifications. So, I just called up to put them on and the call handler refused to because they have been told that anything put on by the manufacturer does NOT count as a modification. I explained that the policy document contradicted this but she just repeated that you only have to report mods if they have been added outside of the factory. So I've left it.

My wife asked me why we couldn't just take the new car to a £5 car wash or use the Shell jet wash. I explained about swirling and then 5 mins later when we got to the car and I complained about the layer of dust, she ran her finger along the length of the roof and said "why can't you just wipe it off". I cried inside. Possibly also outside. It kills me that I haven't had the time to properly clean my car of late. It looks like it has run through a desert.

I'm without a plug in the underground car park so I haven't invested in a DA. The swirls are only in small patches on the side of the roof so I'll leave it until the Exo runs out. By then I can probably do a full DA polish somewhere. Thanks for the tips all.
-
Thanks Gary. Given that I don't have Exo to replace the Exo rubbed off, presumably I could top up that patch with C2v3? My garage isn't warm enough for me to replace with Exo anyway.
-
Gary, does panel wipe remove Exo then? I noticed quite a lot of swirls on the side of my roof. How can I remove these? I assume I have to use the P1 Nanopolish to get these out? If so, does that mean I'll have to remove the Exo coating first with panel wipe? Thanks. Seb

No, when they dried they are the same colour as before. *Poster is colourblind and takes no responsibility for destruction of footwear by automotive products.

I sprayed my brown suede brogues with l1 today. I now have shoe beading!

Thanks a lot as always!

Tell me about it. Because E3 is statistically worse for car crime than SW1, when I moved out of a Pimlico council estate (the one where they all get knifed with samurai swords), parking on the road my premium went up £200 moving into a secure car park with way more than 9 cars in it (9 is the maximum on the form). It has two locked gates you can only open with a remote. indeed!

Bec (or Mainframe if he's about) Do I have to take the wheels off to apply the C5 or can I just cheat and apply it to the visible surfaces? In my 14 years of driving I only had one puncture and therefore am not skilled in the art of wheel removal/jacking the car up. Plus I've heard about jacks failing and causing all manner of ills. I am new to this "hands dirty" lark.

I was doing quotes last night. Two weeks ago Esure and Sheila's was cheapest at £506 but I have upped the mileage from 6k to 10k with NCD preservation so now cheapest is Direct Line at £624 (£350 vol excess) or Axa at £665 (£450 vol excess). All with my beautiful East London premium and no discount for having double locked underground car park. When asked how many cars at my address I have put 9, because there are more than that in the car park. As a lawyer the question is sufficiently unclear to allow me to do that, because they are at my address and logically I should be able to benefit from having more cars where my car is parked (in the same way as some people find their premium goes down when they say "on street" as opposed to "on drive" for theft reasons).
