  1. Hi, Sorry not been on for a while. My VW service contact repeatedly pestered their bodyshop manager who seemed non-communicative. They gave me a quote to replace the seal (on back order apparently) and to sort paint. They didn't inspect it just went by the pics. The quote was something like £275 (seal+paint??). They said not covered under warranty as seal is wear n tear (shock/horror). Said ok then crack on and book me in and they never got back to me. Thought if you cant be bothered than nor can i. My plan was to pop to a local bodyshop but kind of got distracted....so need to follow up. Interesting to know its just the seal corroding. The seal seems to be worn on that one side. Dont have any leaks AFAIK. Not clear about the speaker aspect. So, yes need to get a second opinion and get it checked in person.
  2. Hi, im not 100% sure. In the pic ive pulled back the seal and theres corrosion all along underneath, Will take another look. At a glance didnt see anything obvious under the door. Its not being caught by shoes exiting the car. It can only be the door really. I will no doubt get it inspected. As you say dont want to arrive back at the same problem. Will give the VW guy a chance to respond and go from there - on leave at the moment.
  3. Thanks for the feedback. Always seems like nothing is worth the paper its written on! Will await a final response from my dealer contact next week. Probably head to a local body shop once the inevitable rejection happens.
  4. Hi, Hope everyone's well. Its been a while. I still own a 2017 7.5 R after 8 years from factory! All been going ok. although.... upon washing at the weekend i noted the drivers door sill/seal caught my attention for looking worn like the doors been catching it. Upon further inspection i can see the seal has been compromised and the paintwork beneath is rusty. The passenger side is perfect and the seal is intact. Drivers side: Pulling back the seal: Passenger side is fine,. I can see VW have 12 corrosion warranty but there's some wording ambiguities around not being covered due to external rust! https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/en/owners-and-services/my-car/warranties/new-car-terms.html My cars got full service history with the same dealer and does still have VW full warranty in place. Just wondered if anyone had experienced similar and had any experience with the corrosion warranty. Somehow i anticipate it will never be easy! I have sent an email into a dealer contact i have a good rapport with but he is on holiday so just awaiting a response. In the meantime just looking to seek out others experiences! Worst case i guess i just pay someone to replace the seal and sort the paintwork! Bit crazy as the car is still in perfect condition so this is no good for my OCD! Thanks in advance!
  5. I did see fluids weren't covered and thought yes no problem. Wow amazing there is such a complex process around coolant! Probably renew my 'vw roadside assistance' again next. £110 for an annual policy unless anyone's got any other recommendations ive not considered.
  6. I'm now at 7 years ownership of the 7.5R which is a little crazy! The car is on 42k miles (about 6k pa). I had 5 years factory VW warranty 2 years all in warranty plan Just extended with VW Extended Warranty @£377 (<10 miles pa, All component cover, £0 excess) from next week VW offered a preferential rate of £377 as I approached the end of the previous all in plan. Hopefully, his provides a little additional piece of mind for the larger components. I've never needed much warranty wise. I did have a bonnet release fail a couple of times and only more recently. VW fixed it once and then more recently swapped the cables and said it wasn't covered as ' wear and tear' (but did it all FOC out of goodwill in the end). This is the only thing that confuses me with warranties. If the cable had gone at 6 months old it surely would have been warrantied! Its more the labour in this case than the parts price. Anyone got any experiences to share with claiming on this plan? I'm committed now and will no doubt see how it all goes. https://insurewithvolkswagen.co.uk/extended-warranty
  7. Yes i see you both paying c£300...with having newer R models etc....£600 for me feels a bit lumpy!
  8. Yes i ordered mine from factory and do an additional oil filter change 6 months in. Probably overkill with 6k miles pa but easy enough to do and doesn't cost a lot. I wont likely be taking a service plan on as there no £ incentive. I found this. About £600 based on <10k miles and £100 excess. https://www.insurewithvolkswagen.co.uk/extended-warranty#get-cover-now I have had 7 years of VW warranty (5 from factory + 2 all in plan) and barely needed anything! Sods law 🙂
  9. Thanks for the comments. Will ponder my options. Perhaps will haggle or further customise the VW service plan (or perhaps consider an indy for some or all service items if it doesn't work out). I do like the once a year one stop shop (and my service manager collects/drops off while i work) I'm just not used to seeing filters and plugs listed separately from the service. I do now see looking at the service book that air filters/pollen filters have been changed but not every service. Genuine plugs seem to be £100 on awesome. It becomes more tempting to do these myself! Can anyone recommend an indy in the Nottingham/Derby area? Could go further afield if its once a year i guess! Who have you all got your extended warranties with?
  10. I've owned the 7.5R for approaching 7 years which is a little crazy! My all-in plan ends after the next service in May 24. I'm on about 40k miles and only do 6k miles pa. I plan on keeping the R for the foreseeable as it serves me well for what i need. I will therefore be losing Warranty Breakdown Servicing My dealer has drafted a service plan with all the usual items included and a monthly payment. What's a bit new on me is the price for the 2 service types (inspection £210 and inspection & supplementary £275) and the fact that air filters and pollen filters are additional to the service cost. Air filter £60 Pollen filter £54 Spark plugs £182 ------------------ Haldex £117 DSG £380 Brake fluid £69 A/C £140 Aren't air filter / pollen filters standard yearly service items? In my mind these are cheap £15/20 parts and simple to swap out. They only seem to have me down for 1 of each filter over a 4 year service plan. Be inclined to say dont bother will swap them myself but it all gets a bit silly! I'm trying to wrap my head around whether these are over priced, whether everything has simply gone up, whats the situation with separating out filters and plugs (im used to plugs getting swallowed up in the relevant service price but never quite clear when dealers decide to swap them. Certainly appear to have had plugs ticked a couple of times in the service book). May ponder negotiating better pricing or could look for independents but in my experience these can be expensive. Any thoughts welcomed! Thanks
  11. Presumably profile is a % of width so marginally deeper 35% of 245 - 35% of 235 = 3.5mm Interested if they fit standard 19 rims though without issues.
  12. Had nothing worthy of mentioning in 6.5 years ownership warranty wise (ive managed to have 7 years full dealer warranty, from factory and VW all in plans) and not really had much from them, apart from peace of mind. Got warranty til june to try and catch any issues. I've done additional 6 monthly oil changes and its only at about 39/40k miles. I tend to think they must be slightly over engineered for the power....and you arent going everywhere 100%. ie The odd spirited stint of acceleration.
  13. The standard boot more or less shuts itself with gravity and a little encouragement. With these aftermarket struts you definitely have to press against some resistance to shut the boot...i guess that effort is loading the small springs. Its not a big deal just different. The quicker you shut it the easier it is. I think the convenience of clicking the button when carrying bags etc is a plus.
  14. I still have all-in warranty. Not a concern i don't think. Shame. I was surprised to see the 3 door and 5 door strut kits could potentially be different - as its an option on the website picker.
  15. Yes, the missus has the electric tailgate in the Tiguan and its very handy with the dog etc, There doesn't seem to be anyone on the forum saying they've had these fitted which is fair enough. Emarald do seemingly sell proper electric kits for around £400 + fitting. Is this emerald comment some kind of automated post? Obviously there's no enquiry here! Crazy world!
  16. Was pondering for a while and finally ordered and fitted some Emerald boot struts this weekend. Quite happy with them. A 10 min job to fit. The boot now pops fully open on pressing the boot key fob button. As per the link and video clip https://emeraldstruts.com/collections/volkswagen-golf-mk7/products/mk7-golf Couldn't see any 'Emerald' content in the forum and just thought i would share. Anyone else fitted these?
  17. Watched this earlier. What a disgrace! You can afford an RS3 and you don't have breakdown cover. You may potentially take an unexpected hit now and then, such as life. £400 i think the change was. The tyre was probably £200 of that if it was a 20". Not the sharpest tool in the box. I wonder what the thick idiots talked about after the van left.....
  18. Fitted the VW clubsport discs/pads a good while back. Aesthetically ok, No rust. Happy with the braking. Not sure id pay current disc prices though.
  19. Price inflation is a little crazy....i fitted clubsport s discs and pads a year or two back....discs were £330 then but now see they are £450.....i probably didnt think they were worth 330 back then but liked the look and genuine part aspect....i presume everything is expensive now!
  20. I saw a news article or youtube video the other day (perhaps a merc) where you can effectively turn the key off (ie when you go to bed by holding down a button). Seems a reasonably simple idea. It comes to life on the next button press. I wonder if insurance care about keyless/key cars with regards quotes? The 7.5R 3 door i purchased couldn't be ordered with keyless. At the time it was seemingly a 5 door option only. As you say i wonder how many criminals are walking around with key scanning equipment versus simply kicking a window or door in to get the keys.
  21. I drive my partners 2017 tiguan r line 4 motion generally when we go to devon with the dog and I generally dont mind driving it. Made me ponder the Macan (the cayennes probably a little large a bit like the toureg). Ive only just learned the base model Macan uses the EA888 engine possibly from the GTI, Makes me think that given the price tag and excessive Porsche service costs this wouldn't make much sense.....perhaps the Macan S or GTS is the better choice given the 3l 6 cylinder. I happened to see that Porsche seem to charge 2 or 3x for servicing, PDK etc compared to VW. I've pondered nearly new M3 comps (M2s gone weird looking for me now), RS3s etc. ..But i think i just come back to the conclusion of whats the point spending 60k+ when the Golf is still serving me well really....6 years in..
  22. Are there any VW warranty options beyond the 2 year all-in? Have about 10 months remaining but just curious. Assuming my 2017 car will be 7 years old (which sounds crazy as feels like i only just ordered it)
  23. I have them on a June 2017 FL R. They were an option (or part of the performance pack -clubsport brakes, spielbergs).
  24. Cheers for the info. Wont be paying the dealer bill. Just looking to confirm a date with an indy, Nice to get your aircon back. Cant imagine how we coped without it in the past. We have a golden retriever too and its a bit of issue when the temp ramps up like in the last few days. Good luck with the nose.
  25. Its cheaper to repair a fighter jet! Whats the dealers hourly rates these days?
