  1. Probably for the best if it wasnt completed. God only knows the state it would be in after an accident. Manufacturers spend millions ensuring their cars meet a certain level of occupant safety.
  2. When I had my Mk 7 it was reasonably reliable so i didn't wory too much about what could go wrong i just enjoyed the car. What can fail on an older car is rubber hoses. One of mine went and dumped the entire water contents of the car on the road. Mine was a 2014 car and had a heating system component that they omitted on later cars but mine failed resulting in intermittent heating on one side of the car. It took 3 visits to the dealer and 2 heater matrix and assitance from vw germany to sort it out. All under warranty thankfully. I have OBD11 and have only probably used it twice. Im not one for tinkering with things i dont understand so have restricted its use. A previous owner thought making my car beep when locking and unlocking was a cool feature. It wasn't it was annoying. Adjusting the fake engine sound to your preference is a good use of obd11 as well as coding a new battery but i cant think of much else i'd want to do with it on a regular basis. It sits in the car waiting for the day where it may prove useful again.
  3. I wouldn't expect a 10-year-old car to be perfect. The mileage is a bit irrelevant, as things age and deteriorate over time. It's how the ageing process works for cars as well as humans. Being a suspicious individual, I'd be questioning why an 8-year-old hot hatch only had 34k miles. There are many out there that started life with mileage blockers or wound-back odometers. Many dealers don't do adequate checks and just try to pass them on. Hopefully yours isn't one of them.
  4. I saw this forum post and had my doubts about how oem the results were. I ran the comments through Co-Pilot (AI Generated response below) The summary: So the post confirms basic heating, not full OEM behaviour. In my book mk8 golf seats retrofitted in a mk 7 or 7.5 reduces the vw oem 3 stage heating to a simple on/off affair. That maybe enough for some but as i said I side stepped on this modification. Happy to be proved wrong that this mod can be made to work as expected.
  5. I've got no issue saying information was sourced from AI and i'll do so in future. I've still yet to see anyone confirm they have got Mk8 golf heated seats working as per factory specification in a mk 7 or 7.5 with 3 stage heating. If anyone knows of such confirmation please lets have the link.
  6. I dont understand much of this thread and for that reason when AI gave me an answer I understood I stayed well clear of the situation. Good luck to those who feel its worth a punt.
  7. The cast iron repair warranty that I thought i had with vw uk has turned out to be what i can only describe as a fairly loose goodwill warranty. After trying to push the whole situation towards vw financial services and me rejecting their mishandling of the case i requested a new case worker who at least had a better grasp of the situation. The net result is the car has gone back to the original repairer even though the terms of the 3 year repair authenticity guarantee says any approved body shop can carry out remedial repairs i was denied this option. The repairs the garage have performed will not be to vw specifications as the car has ppf in the area close to the repair and they didnt want to pay for its removal and re-application. The best i got out of the repair garage was an email confirmation that the repairs are guaranteed for 12 months. I've yet to see the repair so cant comment on the quality but its in a very low position so as long as its acceptable i will live with it. I plan on reporting this issue to the motoring ombudsman as i feel vw either mis-sold the authenticity guarantee or denied me the rights i had under the guarantee.
  8. I was waiting on a call back from vw but nothing as yet. Ive been busy on other things so chasing this hasn't been a priority. Im within the repair warranty period and notified them of my claim within that period so let's see how this plays out. I'll resume the chasing this week.
  9. The fun and games with vw uk has started. I've formally requested another vw approved bodyshop carry out remedial repairs under the 3 year paint and bodywork warranty you get when you have paint work done at an approved bodyshop. The original bodyshop have said they followed vw repair procedures so are not taking responsibility for the failure and wont cover remedial work. Vw head office cheekily tried to push the whole situation to vw financial services because they noted I had the vw all-in extended warranty. I told them where to go with that idea. I know my rights and my agreement is with vw uk not vw financial services. Anyway I now have a case opened and I told them I dont intend talking to anyone about anything apart from the date my car goes in for remedial repairs. What goes on behind closed doors is not my concern and being told they have an issue with whos going to pay for the remedial repairs is not a conversation I was expecting to have when having repairs through vw approved channels and then having to subsequently claim when the repair fails.

  11. Unfortunately the area these protect is not where the corrosion is.
  12. I had this problem at the rear of my 7.5 repaired by a vw approved bodyshop around 2.5 years ago. Its back again so im going the warranty route as vw approved bodyshop guarantee the work for 3 years. I have ppf but it stops just short of that area where the corrosion starts. Probably because that area is not smooth and the ppf would most likely lift very quickly.
  13. A quick check using an AI tool comes up with this result. The Harman Kardon amp in the MK8/MK8.5 Golf and Tiguan has a locked DSP profile from the factory. ACM Technik: Access the HK amplifier’s internal coding Replace VW’s stock EQ curves Adjust crossover points Modify gain structure Improve time alignment Fix the overly‑aggressive factory limiting Rebalance the sub channel This is exactly what a DSP retune is, just done inside the OEM amp instead of using an aftermarket DSP. Based on this i would say its good value as a good bespoke dsp retune on aftermarket kit would cost twice this and if they've done all the hard work to make the system sound better its worth a try.
  14. If thats the one at a main dealer its got a huge gap in the history. It cant be sold as an approved used vw. Can only be sold with a third party warranty that are generally pants. Unless your happy to take a risk maybe look for another.

    Hello

I was responding to another user who asked the questions. I've got obd11 which i've only used a couple of times. Mainly to experiment with soundaktor settings and code a new battery. Stop start I've got the ali-express device that remembers the last setting so dont need to code it permanently off. Lane assist is no problem for me as i use it when i feel like it. Which is how it should be on all cars. 🙂

    Hello

Lane assist stays off on the 7.5 Golf R. Its actually very useful on a long motorway journey but around town its not. But i dont think it was designed for around town.

    Hello

On a 2019 you can turn off lane assist through the head unit. At least you can on mine. The soundaktor has its benefits. I played around with mine and found a value that was complementary to the driving experience. Everyone who turns it off seems to end up spending lots of money on an exhaust. Without the device I found the overall sound of the engine and exhaust flat and boring. No drama during acceleration whatsoever.
  18. Another dealer will be able to see all previous warranty claims and there status. I'd be surprised if a dealer you've never put any business their way before is going to stick their neck out to try and get someone a warranty repair that has previously been refused.
  19. Thats a major job from what i've seen. Requiring significant disassembly, specialist tools, and technical expertise. 8 - 12 hour job for a suitably qualified person. Best to take it back to where it was fitted if thats an option. Is the car driveable and are there errors on the dash or are they all behind the scenes.
  20. I read the only way to get it to work properly is to remove the heated seat pads from a mk7 and transplant them into the Mk8 seats. Why the 3‑stage system doesn’t work 1. Different heating mat resistance • Mk7 mats have a resistance profile the Mk7 HVAC module expects. • Mk8 mats use a different resistance and thermal sensor layout. • The Mk7 module sees the Mk8 mats as “out of range” and either: • refuses to energise them, • or runs them incorrectly and throws a fault. 2. Different temperature sensor logic • Mk7 uses NTC sensors embedded in the mats with a known curve. • Mk8 uses a different sensor arrangement and calibration. • The Mk7 module can’t interpret the Mk8 sensor feedback, so it won’t regulate 3‑stage output. 3. The Mk7 HVAC module is not programmable for Mk8 mats There’s no coding trick, adaptation channel, or parameter set that changes the heating curve or sensor interpretation. It’s hard‑coded.
  21. Its usually every 12 months or 10,000 miles whichever comes first. Anyone extending a service interval on an R to 24 months is just trying to save money rather than the engine.
  22. There's a wide range out there some people have been perfectly happy with a £50 ebay special. Then there's genuine oettinger for probably £500 fitted/painted or copy clubsport around £100 or genuine clubsport around £3500 at todays prices. Take your pick.
  23. I've seen a company that does the dash WHIPWRKZ CREATE | Volkswagen (VW) Dashboard Restyle Covers Personally I replaced the center of the seats with a micro suede as i never really liked the oem cloth as they seemed to look dirty very quickly and were easily caught and would snag.

  25. I looked at this brand when i was in the market. Seems a good make but as it didn't offer any cloud support I ended up looking elsewhere.
