This is what I bought off fleabay. They're not oem so the quality is pretty rubbish and after 2.5 years they look tired so I might replace them with oem ones off a VW Polo which can also be found on fleabay. I should also mention that the original bolt covers didn't fit as they were too big to fit the holes, so I just replaced these with normal bolt covers which don't look as nice as the originals.

Hi there. Quite tricky for me to measure the bore size as the wheels are on the car and the centre caps are fitted which are easiest to remove when pushed out from behind with the wheel off. Speaking of centre caps, these were the only additional things that I needed to buy as the standard VW ones off my Cadiz were too big. I can't remember the size that's needed but I think I got some VW rip offs off fleabay.

Anyone have Rep Pretoria wheels?

Do it! I did the same thing, ie change from the factory 18" Cadiz to 19" rep Prets (CM Wheels) a few years back and haven't looked back. Not only do they look better but they also fill the arches better by giving a wider stance. By changing to the 235 19" tyres, this also meant I was able to fit better tyres in the form of Michelin PS4S (not to be confused with the "standard" PS4, which people seem to get mixed up, especially when talking in plurals, I.e. PS4s!!!). As for the ride, I wouldn't say it got noticeably worse. If anything, I would describe it as feeling "chunkier" (you can tell I'm not a car journo!). Difficult to say what the cause was due to so many factors - bigger wheel, wider, lower profile tyres, different tyre model, wider stance, etc. Anyway, if you take the plunge, enjoy!

Settle service plan early and save £££s
Good_Samaritan replied to Good_Samaritan's topic in VW Golf R MK7 Chat
Sorry to hear that they couldn't give you a quote there and then. Just to give you a heads up, I settled the service plan on Monday and it took until yesterday to finally show that I no longer had a service plan on the car. I kept checking the All in web page as I was keen to sign up for it before the end of this month before the deal expires. So I hope VW give you a settlement figure soon! Monday's a bank holiday so that gives them one less day to do what they need to do, what with the 31st drawing closer, if you're thinking of going All in after settling the service plan. -

You haven't misread or misunderstood my post. I think my post is just too full of garbled info! I couldn't bring my service forward as I'm currently abroad on holiday and by the time that I found out about the 20% All in plan my VW retailer didn't have any available service slots in August. And September's service is being paid for by the service plan that I've just settled. The retailer has just invoiced VW for it in advance of my service, rather than at the time of the service like they normally would. So I'm not losing out on a service from my service plan. Hope that's less clear as mud. Apologies, my initial post was fuelled on wine what with me being on holiday! -

0370 010 2022 is the number. There's a myriad of options when you get through that seemed to be geared towards business and personal contract hire with no obvious option for service plans but I just followed the option to speak to someone. Good luck and I'd be interested to know if your settlement figure ends up being less than your 11 remaining monthlies. -
Settle service plan early and save £££s
Good_Samaritan replied to Good_Samaritan's topic in VW Golf R MK7 Chat
Cheers! Neither did I know it was possible to settle the service plan early but I just followed the advice of my local VW retailer who told me what to do. Not only that, but although I said I've used up both services of the service plan, there's a bit of a lie there, as my second and final service is actually in September. Concerned that this is in the month after the 20% All in deal ends, my retailer have already invoiced VW in advance of that service so that it appears as though I've used up the 2 services on the plan, meaning it can then be settled and shut down. Sounds like a bit of crafty accounting but if it helps the customer, I'm all in (if you pardon the pun)! -
Evening all, I thought I'd do my best Martin Lewis impression and try and save you some money. Bear with me... So I had 7 months left of my 2 year service plan left to pay off as £15.50 monthlies, but given that I've already used up both services, and aware that VW have got 20% off their All in plan until end of August, I was keen to take up this offer. Problem is, you can't go All in if you've got an existing service plan on the vehicle. So I rang VW to pay off the remainder of my service plan - £108.50 (7 x £15.50). Imagine my very nice surprise when the VW operator said because I'm paying it off early, I'm saving on interest and would only need to pay £60.05 instead of £108.50! I couldn't pass my payment card details across quick enough, in case he changed his mind! So, not only did I save £48 by settling the service plan early, but I'm now free to go All in with 20% off, saving a further £168. So, for anyone else who's used up their 2 services in their plan, still have monthlies to pay on it, and are in a position to pay it off, give VW a call to see what the settlement figure is. You may be pleasantly surprised. You're then free to go All in and save further £££. Appreciate this may only apply to a small number of owners out there so apologies if my money saving tip hasn't quite got the same reach as MSE!

Hi and congrats on finding a lapiz blue estate. Fingers crossed that this one is better than the last one that you returned. Slightly off topic but I noticed that the edges of your bonnet insulation aren't tucked into the holes in the bonnet. I dont know if that's because it's been taken off to clean the engine bay, shrinkage, or any other reason but if its shrinkage (very common apparently) see if the dealer will replace it under warranty or if not some cable ties should be able to sort it. Enjoy your new motor

Arteon R Estate Vs Golf R 7.5 Estate
Good_Samaritan replied to Dazautomatics's topic in VW Golf R MK7 Chat
@baRt may be able to give you the closest experience as they've gone from a 7.5R estate to an Arteon R sportback, so not the estate, towards the end of last year. There was a post somewhere on this forum but I cant remember if it was in this section or the Arteon section. -
Hi sorry to hear about your misfortune. I feel your pain. Although I dont have rescue cats, I do have two messy, young boys, and when I took out the lease on our R estate back in 2017 I was so paranoid about the lease company penalizing me for every dent, scuff, and mark. So I swapped out the rear seats, both the seat base and backrest, for some from a GTD hatchback that I found on flea bay and they fit perfectly. These are used as sacrificial seats and the original ones are in storage and in perfect condition, ready to be put back in the car when the boys have grown up and learnt to be less messy! I'm sure some bases from an R hatchback will fit just fine.

Blimey, you must be living in the Wilmslow area! I think thieves will look down their nose at your R when there's more nickable Mercs and Beemers about!

Front discs and pads need doing, dealer quoted £691.
Good_Samaritan replied to tally2425's topic in VW Golf R MK7 Chat
Hi jrw, how old is your Octy and how many miles has it done? I've got a 10-plate mk2 Octy vrs that's done 155k and I noticed the juddering last month, though not because I changed the brakes. At first I thought it might be something to do with the engine or drivetrain but it was also noticeable when coasting. It was obvious it was the brake when I got to my destination and the osf alloy wheel was hot and disc was a blue-ish colour with a burning smell. Mpg was significantly worse, too. Diagnosis? Binding brake caliper. Ended up having to get a replacement caliper and replace discs and pads whilst I was at it. That's one possible reason for the juddering. -
And this one?

Is it this one? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-R-2-0-TSI-4x4-600BHP-ONLY-ONE-IN-UK-deposit-taken-awaiting-collection-/334652994001?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0

Those cans are ridic! I totally understand your reasons for releasing the equity to go towards the mortgage. My fixed mortgage ends in 2 years time and my aim is to pay it off by then to avoid the current - and possibly increasing - interest rates on a new mortgage. Gutted that I didnt do it sooner as wbac valued my car at £26k this time last year and now its £20k. A drop of £6k for 2.5k miles in a year is a real kick in the nuts. Anyway, really pleased for you and really jealous that when the time comes you'll be able to put what would have been your mortgage repayments into something nice and exotic in the future.

Black rear VW badge - where is everyone buying them?
Good_Samaritan replied to Moose's topic in Modifying your Golf R MK7
Company quotes "WILL NOT EFFECT (sic) THE ACC RADAR BEHIND THE BADGE". Only one way to find out! Activate that ACC, preferably with the largest gap setting initially! -
Nice. I see it's also got the 20" upgrade alloys and IQ lights with the light bar in the grill. What with 2 growing boys, I've been considering one of these as a replacement for my 7.5, though the sport brake version. The pano roof, leather sports seats, interior quality and acres of room is a real plus point. And I'm a sucker for those ridiculous shoulders above the rear arches. It makes my 7.5 estate look very slab sided. Enjoy!

Glad you're loving the car. Can I just check but are those genuine Prets or Pret reps? Reason for asking is because I've got the latter on mine and noticed the centre caps are smaller than those on genuine Prets - see those in Booth11's photos, for example. I also noticed that the nut holes were too small to accommodate the original nut covers so I had to get bog standard nut covers, and noticed that your rear wheel doesn't have a nut cover fitted.
-
Hi I got these from the flea of the bay for mine. They fit well and, touch wood, haven't fallen out on their accord yet. If you're a VW connoisseur, that's how to spot a Pret rep from a genuine one from distance - the wheel centres are a lot smaller than the genuine ones.

CM alloys 19 inch Prets advice
Good_Samaritan replied to Swerve's topic in Modifying your Golf R MK7
I'm not sure what a wheel veteran is but I'll take your compliment! Another think that I should add is that the car feels that little bit "chunkier" (sorry, but I cant think of any other way to describe it), probably due to the slightly wider footprint and wider tyres (235 PS4S). Ride isn't crashy either. -

CM alloys 19 inch Prets advice
Good_Samaritan replied to Swerve's topic in Modifying your Golf R MK7
I got some CM 19" Pret reps last year. I've attached some photos to compare the standard cadiz against the reps. Car is on standard suspension. Clearly, the reps fill the arches better and improve the stance, making the original Cadiz look a little lost in the arches in comparison.
