Picture would help.

Left as you look at it or left when sat in the drivers seat?
-
Also check the fuel rail, our old Mk 7 GTI was prone to occasionally losing a tiny bit of fuel from the fuel rail.
-
Is either left hand wheel hub hotter than the right hand wheel hub after driving? Is there any evidence of electrical loom damage under the hood? Are any electrical components more than slightly warm to the touch?

Make sure you tap on HOME (the little square on the infotainment screen) then tap on settings, then set privacy. If you don't do this and change the privacy setting to discoverable then you'll not make progress.
-
if the globe is grey nothing will work. Are you sure there is connectivity in your region? if you have internet at home try connecting the car to your home WiFi.

🤣You'll all hate this. My cheap Skoda has a washer jet for the rear camera! Then again it does not hide the camera under a sexy flap. Going to wash the R later this morning, will pay attention to the rear camera.

It is true that some software updates do require that the car re-learns the steering angle sensor positions. Sadly VAG don't tell you this either. Of course it will re-learn them in normal driving, eventually!
-
My further advice on the "3G update" is take your time. Twice I thought it had finished but it had not. It said it had but things were still happening. I kept the ignition switched on. It then took 3 goes for it to accept the user name and password, typed in via the infotainment. It looked like it was OK but, after a pause we had to input it again as there was an error message and then another one. Finally after that it took a good few minutes for it to initialise and reconnect then it did some more stuff after we put in the S-PIN. Finally when the music came back on (defaulted to radio) we decided to start the engine. All well so far, touch wood! "We" don't use the app, we originally set up the ID on the PC and did registration via the two keys method so this might make a difference.

@breamish, that's just how it is. A single component change somewhere along the whole CanBus can give rise to the need for different software versions. Since VAG is very guarded about telling you what a given software update does (or more likely fixes) then it's impossible to know. I find the software way too "feature rich" anyway and don't use more than a fraction of what's on offer.
-
@Muffler, at least you know what to check before you drive it off the forecourt.
-
@breamish not sure why you quoted me. AFAIK what can / cannot be added to the favourites bar on VAG MIB3 based infotainment varies a huge amount by brand, model and version. All you can do is explore the options in the infotainment of your car. It can provide hours of endless fun on a damp day. Do not expect any two cars to be the same, a lot of this stems back to the world-wide shortage of electronic components that impacted the whole car industry a few years ago. Our Mk8 Golf R and 2025 Skoda Kamiq SE-L both have MIB3 infotainment with the same size of screen but it's hard to tell they are in any way the same when using them.

Take it back to where you bought it from. Missing or not working?

@Rossdh91 Your two cars have different hardware. Updates are very often hardware specific. Provided both cars are linked to VW via a VW ID and both cars are not set to max privacy (The little globe symbol needs to be white, not grey.) then the OTA updates appropriate to the vehicle will arrive while the car is in use, ignition on. The message indicator will alert you to this. Alternatively a VW dealer can update your software. It's not something you can do as an owner on MIB 3 unlike on MIB 2.
-
Generally the software is updated OTA (Over the air) for all MIB 3 and later cars(MIB 3 = latest VAG infotainment version). It can be done by the dealer. There is no easy facility to download the software updates for MIB3. For OTA to work the car must be connected to VW servers. The little globe in the infotainment must be white, not grey.

I posted about this a few days back. VW set out an e-mail warning about the update which arrived a few days later. I did mention that you'd need your username and password and your S-PIN Also the lag between the update thinking it was finished and finishing and the further lag while it re-registered you. It was indeed a bit of a PITA and VW could have given better instructions. On the plus side it only impacted certain cars. I also posted the reason for the update which is due to 3g being turned off. VW says: "This campaign includes an update for the online connectivity unit from the previous version 0144 to the latest version 0311 This update (Version 0311, Campaign OULB) provides the following improvements: Update of network connection Improvement of stability and performance" "Without this update, the mobile online services and emergency call service (depending on the vehicle model) will no longer work after the 2G/3G mobile networks have been deactivated"
-
A tiny thing but you can configure the car so that you need to put the PIN in every time. According to volkswizard you can't start the car if you don't know the PIN.
-
I'd look underneath, pretty sure there are actuators in the exhaust, I'd check they are still connected.

This is what VW UK say it was for: "This campaign includes an update for the online connectivity unit from the previous version 0144 to the latest version 0311 This update (Version 0311, Campaign OULB) provides the following improvements: Update of network connection Improvement of stability and performance" I don't know if there is an actual software version update that has been snuck in. I don't normally bother to look. I do think the update may be UK specific to cope with the shutdown of the 3G signal in the UK because VW UK say this: "Without this update, the mobile online services and emergency call service (depending on the vehicle model) will no longer work after the 2G/3G mobile networks have been deactivated" The 3G deactivation mentioned started in the UK last year.

As noted you may be able to connect your car either via a WiFi Hotspot on your phone or, if close enough, to your home WiFi. It is region dependant but here are some instructions: 1. Activate the Wi-Fi hotspot on the Wi-Fi device. Refer to the manufacturer's operating instructions. 2. Tap HOME >>Settings>> Wi-Fi >>Wi-fi 3. Tap Search for Wi-Fi . The Infotainment system scans for Wi-Fi hotspots in the area. This scan process can take a few seconds. 4. Select the Wi-Fi network of the preferred Wi-Fi device. 5. Enter the Wi-Fi hotspot network key in the Infotainment system and confirm it. The Wi-Fi connection will be established. If necessary, you may need to enter additional information on the Wi-Fi device

Assume you have created a VW ID in the past and / or have the VW app? Also assume you are the primary user? VW Connect / We Connect Activation (English) | Volkswagen Volkswagen We Connect Setup Firstly check your privacy settings to make sure the car can connect. Second keep an eye on the globe in case it lights up. You need to be close enough to a mobile mast for this to happen. If you are on minimum privacy then try a reset of the infotainment by long press on the on / off key until it reboots. If that does not work then I'd ask VW to mend it. It does not need a "diagnosis", if a security and safety function like SOS has stopped working. Any problems with the dealer then a swift complaint to VW customer service.

I don't know, I don't look at that unless something is not working.

@Booth11 - Ha Ha, Skoda do have App Updates but don't really have any apps! 🙃The only one I got was Traffication which has now run out. Needless to say SWMBO will not allow any "apps" on "her" Golf! (not sure when it became hers, I think maybe when I traded the Audi for the Skoda!) Oddly the Golf still has subscriptions to stuff like live traffic updates that I assumed would run out at the end of year 3.
-
@Zico, The dealer will (should) talk you through setting up the app on your phone. This is the preferred method of having a VW ID. It can be done in two parts AFAIK, when we got the Skoda the dealer asked me to set up The Skoda app on my phone and register before we collected the car. Then when we collected the car he "paired" the app to the car. Took about 2 mins.
-
Ok a bit more info for @Zico. If you are getting or have got a Mk8.5 you have nothing to worry about. I am pretty sure this current update was for the Mk8 and probably only earlier ones. I'm also pretty sure it's targeted at those regions where the 3G signal is being retired. More generally, WV like OTA software updates although the dealer can do them for you as well. If you have linked the car to your VW ID via an app or the internet then you'll get most updates OTA provided you have not selected max privacy. VW OTA updates come in 2 flavour, minor and major. Minor is usually only tiny stuff , a few MB and downloads and updates in one go, The car must be stationary though during the update. These normally take a few minutes at most. The major updates are done in 2 stages, the update will download while you drive, it'll then tell you it's ready to install. The car must be stationary, normally with the ignition on but engine off. The page that tells you about the install will tell you exactly what you have to do and roughly how long it will take. The vehicle must not be driven / engine must not be started while the update is ongoing. When you first get the car you will be invited to create an S-PIN. This is managed via your VW ID account. You have a choice with the S-PIN, you can have the car ask for it every time you want to start the engine or you can tell the car not to ask again after the first time you input the number. Oddly, the update I just posted about required the account name, account password and S-PIN to complete. This is not the norm. The third sort of update can only be done at an authorised VW dealer. Sometimes these updates are to cure a vehicle specific issue. You won't get a message asking you to update anything. Of course VW dealers can do all the updates for you if you prefer. Oddly Skoda pretty much insist on doing the updates for you and OTA updates almost never happen. As far as I know there is no option to "download" an software update to a USB stick on modern VW in territories where OTA is available. The rules for map updates are different and I think you can, if you know how, download map updates to USB.
