ACC Error

Hi All

I've read about a few issues with the ACC error fault that occurs on many of the VW's but not quite the same as mine.

The car randomly throws up the 'ACC and Front Assist Not Available' fault on the dashboard.

It originally started in July when the car would throw up the error, sometimes when turning the car on the fault wouldn't show - one of those days (and luckily I was driving down an empty residential road at 30mph) the car decided to activate the front assist for no reason.

My local VW dealership took the car in and ran some diagnostics, found the numerous error codes logged on the car's system, but the car told them that the cause was a fault with cam adjuster no4. They checked that, switched it with no1 (apparently) and kept the car for a week to run road tests to ensure the fault didn't come back.

It didn't, but this weekend, 2 months later, its back.

Has anyone else had this exact error and what was the outcome? I've seen some people say the dealers have said the steering wheel buttons were the cause- but I cannot see how the cam adjuster could be responsible for throwing up this error or is there something else wrong with my R?

Firstly  :welcome:  Bex

The problem described is way beyond the computing power of my rather small brain to be able to offer a sensible diagnosis. Sorry!

The only similar thing that happened about three times to mine at around 2k miles (6k miles now) was a message that told me auto stop/start was 'unavailable'. I tried the usual computing 'turn it off and back on again' solution and it worked ok again.

The only other thing I wonder about is whether you might have inadvertently touched the push button on the end of the indicator stalk? However this would not throw up fault codes as you've described. Sounds like another trip back to Mr VW is in order..

Ive had those "limited sensor view" and "ACC not available" faults. I had the ACC unit recalibrated 3 times before they replaced it, then they did and I still have it - but only when exiting the Tyne Tunnel northbound. The tunnel is a long left-hand elipse, so for about a mile the car is turning away from a curved wall. Upon exiting the tunnel, the car throws up a fault. Prior to the first 2 calibrations, my ACC didn't seem to see much when I was driving - i'd never instigated a red alert or white <car>!<car> tailgating warning even though the way I was driving it should have flagged one up (I had a GTD before my R and its ACC was much more sensitive).

OP: Are you going through a bendy tunnel or on a long bend up against a solid/substantial barrier?

Hi guys

Thanks so much for your responses.

Had a call from my VW garage today - the fault again is the cam adjuster so they are ordering new parts (including a new sun visor as mine rattles).

Apparently the fault showing up on the car saying its the ACC and Front Assist error is just the car just trying to communicate that something is wrong, but it doesn't have a warning light or message for the exact fault so its not actually anything to do with the ACC or Front Assist system.

Lets see with new parts how long it can be fault free and lets hope that i'm not back at the garage in another 2 months time!

Reading other threads on here it seems that this error can be thrown up for a number of (non-acc) reasons ... some of which appear reasonably serious.

IMHO, If it still doesn't work after restarts I'd get it checked out asap :afro:

EDIT : Can't find the threads !.....and wondering if it's the "stop start" error now !

This is closest to OP's :-

The acc error does trigger for a number of issues some of which aren't related directly to ACC. It appears that anything that decreases the performance of the engine in any way results in acc:error. The dist regulation module simply responds to any drivetrain issue with an error

Like the op mine is related to the cam lift actuator. They have sent an oil sample for analysis.

Is anyone getting lots of these errors, mine has started to do it on a daily basis. I took it to the dealers and they said that no error codes had been registered (???) and went on about keeping the sensor clean.  I laboured the point that Im verging on OCD when it comes to cleaning the car but as it didnt throw up the error in the 2 hours they had it they 'couldnt' do anythng with it.  Needless to say it was back on the next day.  In most instances it dissappears if you switch the car off and on again and they reassured me its safe to drive however its bl88dy annoying.  The cars due its second service in 2 months and ill be pressing for a replacement sensor then but wondered if anyone else had similar issues and manged to get it resolved?

I get exactly the same problem coming through the TT northbound!
