DoDo products

I took the plunge - think Booth put this up in another thread https://dodojuice.net/collections/latest-items/products/dodo-tuition-intro-day-saturday-may-18th

Nice 2 hour journey so early start but thought it would be good.

Anyway I am going - but reason for this thread is in case there are any special offers on the day.

What products would people recommend if there are any "on the day discounts". I confess I have only used one of there products and thats a quick detailer wax.

I decided to go on it as I have been following a few videos etc on YouTube (Chemical Guys) and the advice on this forum, but thought I would see if there are any tips that I haven't picked up or any ways of improving the way I do things. For example I don't seem to get a lasting finish with wax, I use Collinite 845 but lasts about 3 months only. Maybe I am getting my snow foam ratios wrong etc - which is partly why I though its £40 do this for the day.

Apart from the wife thinking I'm sad - any products that people have used and recommend (dodo only)

I have personally used a few DoDo Juice products over the years and would recommend them.

These would include:

Red Mist Spray Sealant - insane beading and easy to apply. Longevity is questionable but still a very easy and quick way to get LSP that repels water very well.

Future Armour Spray Sealant - similar to the Red Mist, maybe even slightly better!

Diamond White Wax - Superb hydrophobic wax with brilliant results on light coloured cars - I used it on my old Reflex Silver Mk5 GTI and loved it.

Clearly Menthol Glass Cleaner - does what it says, decent glass cleaner.

Lime Prime - Pre Wax Cleanser and Polish - did a great job of prepping the surface and taking care of micro imperfections before wax application. I've moved completely to synthetic sealants and ceramics now (for ease of application) but if you're into waxing your car, I'd highly recommend this product.

Born Slippy Clay Lube and Clay Bar Kit - does what it says. Not much else to say about this other than the fact that the clay lube can also be used as a QD - though it doesn't offer an extra protection, just cleaning and lubricity.

Let us know how it goes!

No, I didn’t post it, but good that you have :)

Like Sam, used a fair few DJ products over the years and rate the following:

Blue Velvet Pro Edition was and Purple Haze zero Edition wax (bits colour charged waxes geared towards mod to dark cars) - 3 months protection and great finish and beautiful beading

Super Natural Hybrid sealant/wax - similar to above but not colour charged. Really glassy reflective finish

Fantastic Fur buffing towels - imo one of the best of the best buffing clothes there is

Tropical Red Mist QD sealant - perfect companion to DJ was as a top up and refresh QD.  Amazing gloss and beading

Born Slippy clay lube - superb clay lube, better than just a shampoo solution or water, really reduces friction

Lime Prime - great all round pre wax cleanser with some cut,can be used as a light cut polish

Lime Prime Lite - as above but without any cut, great for post polish, pre wax cleansing for squeaky clean surface for wax to bond too

Supernatural Concentrated shampoo - really good lubricious shampoo, reduced friction and wash mitt glides well with minimal pressure to minimise swirling

Used a few others too, but these are the standout DJ products for me.

Cheers for the tips, I will have a look when there and no doubt end up making a few purchases, I really do need to use some of my old stuff first!

I still haven't got round to doing my summer detail yet, and the car desperately needs protection.

Think I am going to have to do it in stages, wheels one day, glass another day, paintwork another day.

It can be good to break the full detail down into stages.  Makes it more manageable st times.. I haven’t got round to doing my pre or post winter detail yet!  So a bit behind, as busy with more important things, but really must find time for a full detail this summer.

Just a update really, had a good day, learnt a few things and was good to try out machine polishing which I have never done before, tried a rotary and also das15.

So few things I learnt, some you may not agree with but detailing is very much personal preference.

1. Snow foam is pretty useless due to it being very mild, therefore doesn't do much at all, also they use water first, keeping car wet is a must.

2. Decent pressure washer is a must, cheap ones are OK, but ideally instead of a karcher 2 get a karcher 4 as example. A bit more pressure aids washing.

3. Try and keep to the same brand of products if possible. Some products may not be compatible with other products.

4. Carnauba wax, sensitive area and don't want to write too much about what was said, but 70% plus cannot be used on a car it simply cannot be spread.

5. Products such as do everything ones, won't be as good as say a individual product. Common sense really, but some products can be used on more than one thing.

Just a few things from the day.

Sounds like you had a great day!   Did you enjoy trying out machine polishing?

Interesting to read your findings, and a lot sounds like common sense.

I think a decent snow foam is good for softening and loosening some surface dirt and carrying it away, but find Citrus pre wash more effective at the actual cleansing.

Having just moved from a long line of Karcher (K2 and K4s) pressure washers to a Kranzle K10, I heartily agree that a really decent PW makes a world of difference to touchless cleansing.  Good pressure helps, but for me it’s the increased flow rate that makes a big big difference.

I think it’s not necessarily a case of sticking to same brand (DJ and others will no doubt prefer that!) but more to stay within the same chemical base for best results with compatible products.

Regards high content carnauba wax, I disagree to a point.  I often use 76% carnauba and whilst it has an unusual graininess compared to much smoother 30% and 50% content waxes, it spreads fine once you accept that there are little grainy bits, and ime, this is not detrimental to its application, finish and protection. Just takes a bit of getting used to the texture of the wax.

Agree about 2-in-1, 3-in-1 products being less effective than dedicated products that excel in what they are designed for. Also agree that some products are multifunctional and really versatile. It’s a case of trail and error.

Were there any particular DJ products you used and really liked?

Becca,

do you snow foam before citrus pre wash, and do you apply the pre wash via jet wash or spray on with a pump spray?

Hi Ali, yes if the car is very dirty, I do a quick snow foam (diluted to around 8:1) first to soften, loosen and carry away the surface crud - I let it dwell until it’s mostly run off, then pressure rinse off.  Then I follow with citrus prewash for deep cleansing, applied through a snow foam lance, which works well, but a pump spray also works well.  Similar dilution used and let it dwell for around 10 mins then pressure rinse off.  If the car is only lightly dirty then I’ll skip snow foam and just use citrus pre wash.  Both work well in tandem on a grubby car, but if I could choose just one pre wash product, it would be Citrus pre wash (ValetPro).

It was good to try out, whether I will bother getting it myself I'm not sure, I wouldn't work on my own car after just a very brief session of using one.

Funnily enough there recommendation is a kranzle for a pressure washer, although not cheap like all these things u get what you pay for.

You are correct in that yes it's best to use items that are a similar chemical base, I didn't realise for example that some wheel cleaners are acid based, others alkaline based, therefore are different. I naively thought most wheel products would be similar just some were stronger than others.

Also depending if you have wheel sealant, or gyeon will depend on what choice u should make, can't remember which way round tho.

It was really a day that a complete newbie would do tbh, there wasn't much talk like this is the best product on the market and beats the others etc, which I liked, they accept that we all want different things, for example some like satin tyres, others like a high gloss tyres, some prefer the natural look (but with protection not a tyre with nothing on it).

What I did learn which I now see, we all work different ways, apply different pressure when polishing and will all get different results from the same product, one person might use it in 15c temperature, and another at 25c temperature, you will get a different result, the 15c day could of had high humidity for example which may affect how the product reacts.

Oh and forgot one thing read the bottle etc for dilutions and so on, although do take these as a guide, there are no real set rules but obviously using a whole pot of wax in one day is just a waste of wax and time if it says it needs to cure for say 4 hours in between applications

I find BH Autofoam does genuinely do quite a lot of pre-cleaning so not sure I agree with the statement. Also, I don't mind mixing brands but with care. No clue on high canauba wax as i've only ever used 30%. I only have a cheap Nilfisk PW but have always been happy with it but I'd like to try something better one day - especially with a reel!

@JonSW Tbh I have used BH Autofoam, and I quite like it.

I prefer it to Citrus pre wash etc - thats not to say citrus pre wash is rubbish, I just find I get more stuff off with the BH Autofoam. I find it stronger, but then it may well be stripping a small amount of more wax off the car (possibly - possibly not - no way of really knowing).

I went through all my stuff yesterday that I have, going to finish up some of my old stuff first before getting any new stuff. Got so many half used bottles of stuff. I even found some clay (and I thought I didn't have any!) - I think now my car is 2 years old its now time to get claying.
