V6TOMMYGUN
Hi All, I brought an MTM Cantronic on eBay a few weeks back that came off another 7R. I tried to fit it but the fitment is awful! I drove it round the block & there was a noticeable difference in turbo spool but didn’t give masses of noticeable performance. I decided to take it off as the next day it was going into VW for a full service & DSG service so I knew they’d have to remove the air box etc & would be like “WTF is this 💩?!” The bonnet would just about close with the main wires holding against it. I had another go today now I’ve got my turbo elbo on & intake pipe. I thought I could get it under the air box but the air box drain pipe is in the way. There is just not enough wire to move the unit to a good position. has anyone else been able to overcome this problem without buying another brand? TheBlondeFella
The main problem with MTM boxes are often serial number specific. Just because it came from on 7R it doesn't mean that it will work on another 7R. Give QST a call they should be able yo help you out with regards to compatibility and placement. Msportman
Yeap as Steve mentions give Kim Collins a call at QST @ Haywards Heath. They are the main against for MTM.
Stobsie
@75Type2 had one of these fitted a while back so maybe able to give you advice/guidance on the best place to fit. As already mentioned the MTM is normally S/N locked and if not compatible with your vehicle it will just act as a pass through. I know 75type2 had this problem and it cost him a couple of hundred quid for QST to program it to his R. V6TOMMYGUN
V6TOMMYGUN
Thanks for all your replies it’s much appreciated. I had another go at fitting it today & got it to fit much better but still looks shoddy considering it’s over £1000 new. I had a longer drive in it than last time, it does feel a little more powerful when it gets going. But there is no night & day difference. The power feels smooth like OEM but the speedo is where I notice it over standard rather than being put back into the seat. The oil/ engine temp was higher than normal but still safe temps. Maybe I’m expecting more from this MTM box, I was expecting it to kick & feel similar to my old Revo stage 1 manual 8J TTRS but it doesn’t come close. I will speak to QS & MTM themselves about it, if I have to spend £500+ to get it to work 100% then I’d rather pay the extra & go Revo stage 1 or Mountune. It only gives an extra 50 bhp at best, so your not really going to feel the difference. The only real way to tell is on the rolling road for before and after.
