V6coop
Not wanting to hijack the thread but what were your auto electrician's reasons? I was thinking of fitting a Ghost too.
anglingnut
I believe there is concern over the premature failure of the touch pads or switches that are selected for disabling the Imobiliser (more use than normally expected !!!) I utilise the phone app and it's great, no need to touch anything once the app is open on your phone

I was thinking of fitting a Ghost too.He said he had numerous users having problems with start/stop situations at traffic lights plus the button issues, I know you can switch/code SS out, but just thought the MetaTrak was all round better solution and the same standard as a ghost for insurance purposes. He could fit both and he made no mark up as I handled the subscription directly, I just paid an install fee. He travels all over the world fitting to hyper cars so thought I could trust him with my little old golf Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk V6coop
Stobsie
Had no issues with the Ghost & mine has been moved across from my previous 2 vehicles was originally installed in 2018. V6coop
Crick
@Mrkp when you say 'layers of protection' are you looking for immobiliser, alarm or tracker ? For instance, a ghost immobiliser (as standard) doesn't have an audible alarm but a pandora does. A metatrak I believe requires fitting plus a subscription. How far do you want to go ? V6coop
As it seems that most thefts are either relay or property break-ins to obtain keys, surely a Ghost or other immobiliser preventing the car from being driven away (with or without keys) has to be preferable to a tracker that hopefully allows the police find it after it has gone? There is no subscription required either. If the stop/start issue is real then OK I understand the concern but I would need some real-world evidence before it changed my mind. Ali-Gee.
I have a Ghost and a Scorpion tracker fitted to my car. I would also highly recommend a visible deterrent such as a Disklok.
Crick
Totally agree with a visible deterrent @Ali-Gee. I use a milenco bar - https://www.milenco.com/products/automotive-security/automotive-security-wheel-locks/high-security-steering-wheel-lock-1-1-1 I've noticed a few people stop and take a second look when walking on our driveway past my car. Other than adding some small bits of foam to the pads were it sits on the steering wheel, its great. Ali-Gee.
Swerve
I thought about a ghost but for me they are still going to try getting in my house most likely to get key and then find out they can’t start it. so I have gone bollards on drive. disklok on car. security lights all around house. Security cameras all around. good house alarm with vibration sensors on all points. snap locks on all doors. also when I go to bed all blinds are shut as a tip police officer once gave me is that they always want to try and look in first so they can see what’s going on. also have some lamps on timers that come on and off at different times. when at home imo if they want it they are gonna come in and your not going to stop them, it’s all about making your house not an easy target and hope they move on.
