Hi. I didn't think you were speaking ill. I was really complimenting the Golf's performance abilities, but pointing out that you can't really make a four cylinder turbo hatch into an interesting driving machine just by winding up the turbo. Hence words like "binary" get used. . The Golf is massively capable. It just doesn't make me tingle downstairs.

I did a four day trip to Wales a few weeks ago. I was in my Boxster S 981 and was with a mate in his Evora and another driving my Golf R (he is finishing my lease off). He kept up with both me and the Evora. But I know who was having the most fun. It was a similar story last year when in France and I was in the Golf and he was in his Exige V6. I almost kept up but it was boring as hell.

Exactly what I first thought. It is a revelation after the R. Just feels so alive and visceral. Agreed that torque low down is poor, and it is way over geared, but think of 2nd as 3rd and 3rd as 4th and it works better. Roof down is epic. Especially with a PSE. Almost embarrassing how loud the exhaust is when switched on, especially the gun shot crackles on little throttle to overrun. Every drive to work now feels like an adventure. Just like my Elise did. Congrats again and glad you are enjoying it.
