  1. Saw this episode the other night, we are going to be biased though aren't we ? But I do think it wasn't a fair test, if your going to compare cars then to be fair it should be done with the same driver, and why eliminate cars after each test ? Rate all cars over each separate test and then you get a fairer result surely.
  2. Don't think it will be a "recall" as these are only done due to a safety issue. A body trim coming loose wouldn't be classed as a safety issue. It may be a rework which happens when the vehicle attends the dealership for service or any other repair. A recall is a Very expensive excercise for a manufacurer.
  3. I was just being sure the handbrake didn't disengage whilst I was under the car, but yes there's no reason why you can't do it on your own.
  4. When you knock it into S1 and in race move the idle increased to just over 1000rpm, the flaps are now open, disconnect the plugs now (when still in drive and in S1, I had someone in the drivers seat just incase the handbrake came off) and there is no way they can return to closed position as they are disconnected.
  5. I can guarentee you that they do not, as I say you have to be in race mode and in drive and knock the lever down so it is in S1 and both flaps are now open. Go try it again and assure you it works.
  6. For DSG models, have someone in the car, start the car up, set driving mode to race and then put car into drive and knock the lever down into sport mode, now the flaps are open, disconnect plugs and hey presto.
  7. Exactly what he ^ said, only a 5 minute job. Removed wiper arms (13mm nut) and then removed the rubber bulkhead trim, then removed 2 x retaining clips that hold on the drivers side plastic bulkhead panel, remove the plastic bulkhead panel and you will see the soundaktor, remove the 10mm nut which now allows you to remove the soundaktor. I placed a piece of double sided foam tape (cut a hole in the middle to slip over the stud) over the stud and then refitted. The noise was completely gone, so job done. Cheers for the heads up Scott7R.
  8. Hi folks, ever since collecting the 'R' I have experienced the rattle (bulkhead area) from the soundaktor at around 2k revs on acceleration and only in race mode, personally I like the sound of the soundaktor at the moment so would like to keep it at the set level. I don't want to book it into the dealer as it is a 120 mile round trip. I had noticed before that someone has done a modification to the soundaktor which has cure the rattle, but for the life of me I can not find the post. Can anyone help ? Has anyone done this modification and cured the rattle ? Thanks in advance Col
  9. There is a button on the gearstick console, front left, push it once and it brings up the mode menu, you can either press it again and cycle through each option or touch the screen to select which mode you want, simples. Yours Col
  10. Finally the day has come and collected mine this morning at 11:30, happy to say that the dealer done as requested and made sure that the bodywork wasn't touched. I arrived half an hour early for my appointment, so gave me a good while to scrutinise the bodywork for any damage or imperfections, the sun was shining and even with the car dirty it looked awesome. Having signed all the paperwork the week before it was a very quick handover and then off on the 65 mile journey home, which to be honest i don't think i stopped smiling (not really 100 % true, smile might have changed to a frown when I saw another 2 golf r's on the way home, after only seeing 1-2 in the last three months) wasn't hanging around but also wasn't ragging it either, averaged 28 mpg so quite happy if it stays like that. Once I got home I was eager to get my hands on the bodywork and get it in top condition as I have a bit of OCD when it comes to cleaning my cars (hence not wanting the sponge monkeys near it at the dealers), but the wind was very strong here today and decided to tuck it away in the garage until better weather. I will do a proper write up in the detailing section once it is done. First impressions AWESOME ! the 6 month wait was worth it ! Col
  11. Have you tried spotless detailing in Perth ? heard very good reviews and reasonable price too. Col
  12. Ok, so car has arrived at the dealers and booked in for a 12noon pick up on the 1st. Been looking at GAP insurance and finally started haggling for the best price. Finally secured a return to invoice+ policy for £139 for 3 years with a £20k claim limit. Played ALA and gapinsurance123 against each other till I got to a price that I was happy with. So for £47 a year I think thats a bargain. Hope this helps folks.
