Thanks @Booth11 @TechieAli @blizzard60 @SS100 . Can’t say I find it a useful feature, but good to know it’s not a bug. Interesting to read about all these other issues folk are finding, but how’s everyone finding the quality of the MK8.5 overall? I’ve had several MK4’s, MK5’s and 2x MK7’s over the years, and they had all been built really well. Everything just worked and I never had any complaints. That all changed with the MK8 and has continued with the latest 8.5. Really had hoped VW sorted themselves out, but if anything, it’s just got worse. I’ve had a case open with VW, and whilst they’ve accepted the findings (dealership supported this), there has been no further response other than to go to the financial ombudsman. First world problems I know, but when you’re spending circa 50k for a car you’d expect better. VW simply is not what it used to be. 🙄

Not sure if this is a bug or not but I’ve had it from day zero, along with a host of other issues. Basically, the speed dial looses all but one set of mph values. Could anyone confirm if this is expected?

Thanks all for the replies. Interesting that it appears to be a relatively common issue. Never noticed it on the MK8 but will keep an eye out for it on my own, if it ever arrives.

Anyone else finding that the rear lights suffer from moisture / condensation? I know it’s pretty normal for the headlights, but never seen it on the rear.

Are there any others who are build week <47 still waiting for their car to come through? Mine was built the same week as @Booth11, and near sure it came over on the same ship to the UK. But since then, there’s been zero movement. Getting my tinfoil hat on - I can only speculate it’s either (A.) been damaged in transport and is awaiting repair or (B.) the ridiculous EV mandate is having some impact. I’m hopefully wrong on both counts but it is getting a bit ridiculous now. Dealer has chased it up several times but all they’re told is that it’s held 😒

Mate also has a MK8.5 on order which is showing status 39 - on ship. Like @Booth11 mentioned, there is a good chance it’s on the Thames Highway. The only problem is the captain can’t decide if he’s going to or from Grimsby.

Think you’re referring to the Thames Highway. https://www.vesselfinder.com/vessels/details/9316294 None of the below is in any way fact, but more like best efforts from what I’ve noticed over the years of ordering VAG vehicles. 1. A large proportion of European built VAG vehicles (mainly VWs) destined for the UK will be shipped via Emden port, which is right beside one of the VW factories that makes some of the ID models. On a side note, I believe this is one of the factories in the firing line for closure. 2. The port, as you can imagine, is huge in its capacity. What I’ve “typically” found is that models such as the Golf, destined for the UK, arrive via locomotive into this area: So if you see a RORO departing from this part of Emden with a UK destination, there is a good chance your Golf will be on it. However, where you ordered from can influence what vessel your car goes onto. E.g If you ordered from a Scottish dealer, it’s unlikely you’ll find your car on a ship destined for Sheerness. Additionally, as you can see the holding area is huge and some cars can be held here for longer than others. I’ve had some sit here for the best part of a month, whilst others like my 8.5 got allocated onto a vessel within a few days. 3. Vehicles are typically handled by KESS / K Line European Sea Highway Services. K Line operate a number of RORO (Roll On Roll Off) vessels, including: - Thames Highway - Seine Highway - EMS Highway - Elbe Highway - Danube Highway - ISAR Highway - Schelde Highway - Weser Highway - Malacca Highway 4. You’ll usually find the vessels, when transporting VAG vehicles from Emden to the UK, will dock at one of these ports; - Port of Tyne - Port of Grimsby - Port of Sheerness - Port of Tilbury From a bit of googling (maps) you’ll be able to see the car lots full of VW’s, Audi’s, Seat’s and Skoda’s - amongst a few others. Grimsby port with KESS vessel docked: From here, they will be handled by a vehicle logistics operator such as BCA Logistics for onward travel to the respective dealer - typically a few days to a fortnight. Again, take this with a pinch of salt. I am sure others on here will be able to elaborate further with more factual insights.

Really good points on both fronts. Would also be interested to know how it’s holding up around the edges of the wheel arches and side skirts of your 7.5. I’ve seen a local clubsport where grit and water had got in behind the PPF down at the sills.

With so many builds, including my own, having gone through early I can’t help but wonder if it’s due to the upcoming VW strikes. They’re getting customer orders through now and pushing back the run-of-the-mill forecourt models. Dealer contacted me this evening to say that mine was also now in the UK. That’s less than a week from build completion to our shores.

Can definitely see the value in having it applied. It’s just the issues with dirt/ water ingress at the edges and the damage it can cause to the clear coat (when removing) that concerns me.

Was just thinking that myself. Really looking forward to it and now trying to figure out if I should go the PPF route like a few others have. I'll be the first to admit that it's pretty sad, but I've checked the shipping schedule for Emden and can see 2x sailings to Grimsby on the 30th Nov and 15th Dec - hoping it's booked onto either of these and arrives before the EOY.

Thought I'd give the dealer a call today to see if my week 48 build was on track. Safe to say I was rather surprised to hear that it was not only built (exited the factory last Wednesday) but was now at Emden port awaiting shipment 😀.

Great spec! Not that I’m biased or anything 🤣 If memory serves me right, you also had PPF applied to your MK8? Will you be doing the same this time around?
