  1. Just in case anyone is interested, I watched a few YouTube videos and managed to change the bulb myself. Everything is fine again now, so it was the bulb. Thanks delboy01 πŸ‘ I also found a genuine Osram D3S bulb on a well known auction site for Β£33. Don't be afraid to change it yourself, it's really not too bad! Cheers πŸ˜ƒ
  2. Thanks for the quick replies, much appreciated. I'll check the connector first, but I suspect it's probably the bulb. Sadly it's long out of extended warranty so I'll have to find a cheap way of doing it. Can anyone recommend a good priced D3S bulb? They seem to vary in price wildly! Thanks again, cheersπŸ™‚
  3. Hi folks, Some help please! My 14 reg R has got a fault with the LH headlight. It keeps going off and then coming back on again about a second later. This happens intermittently about every minute or so. I don't know much about these Xenon lamps. Could this be a bulb fault or something else? Thanks for any helpπŸ™‚
  4. Will these alloys fit on a R with et39 and 225/40/18? It says they will in the TUV docs, but I just wanted your opinions, please? Don't see a problem with the rears, it's the fronts I'm a bit concerned with. Cheers
  5. Yeah, so they do. I also discovered they are sold in the UK by Wolfrace, but quite a bit dearer!
  6. With respect, that doesn't look that great to me. This is more like what I'm after! Goodyear F1 Assy 5
  7. Ha ha, yes, that's for a set of 4. So not expensive at all. I've thought about what @GrayMK7R said and changing tyres is another option. Unfortunately, it doesn't change the kirbing problem with 19s though. Never had that problem with any car before. Maybe I should be more careful! Thanks for your input @NRW πŸ™‚ Cheers
  8. At the risk of being laughed at, are these inexpensive rims any good? They are the only TUV approved ones I could find that I like and are under 11kg, without spending silly money.
  9. Was thinking Goodyear F1 Assy 5. Seem to be getting good reviews. Wheels, maybe these https://www.felgenoutlet.de/en/alufelgen-reifen-komplettraeder/vw-golf-vii-schraegheck_vf_36_5030756_1/rial-lucca-diamant-schwarz_ff_16_19?possible_rim_id=10476 or these https://www.felgenoutlet.de/en/alufelgen-reifen-komplettraeder/vw-golf-vii-schraegheck_vf_36_5030756_1/alutec-raptr-racing-schwarz-frontpoliert_ff_16_486?possible_rim_id=5763 Only ones I could find that I like and under 11kg, without spending silly money! Cheers
  10. Thanks for the replies. To be honest, I was interested to see if anyone had noticed any difference. Just curious. I'm aware of all the factors involved, such as wheel diameter, width, offset etc. In the end it's the tyre diameter that matters. With that in mind, my plan is to get some reasonably light 18 x 8 et45 alloys and put on 235/40 tyres. As NRW pointed out, very little difference in diameter to the 235/35s on the Prets, so all should be good. Then sell the Prets with tyres, which will hopefully cover the cost of the new 18s. Good plan? Cheers
  11. Hi folks, I'm thinking of changing my 19" Prets to something 18" for a better ride etc. ( I'm old!) Anyway, when looking at tyre sizes on 18s, the 225/40/18 is quite a bit smaller than 235/35/19. That must mean that the car is slightly lower geared overall and hence faster to accelerate. Anyone noticed it? Just a thought.πŸ€”
  12. If anyone is interested I just found this image on VWVortex. It looks to me like the cage can be removed from the top and the ECU is held in a plastic cradle. I wonder if mine has come out of it's holder somehow?
  13. Thanks for all the replies and yes, it is an early manual R. Vdpmsd, you say you removed yours, but did you put it back or is the ECU mounted some other way under the metal cage? Ideally I'd like to remove it like in the newer versions. Cheers
  14. Hi folks, My 2014 R developed an annoying rattle a few months ago. Took me weeks to track it down. Eventually discovered it was the ECU rattling around inside the metal cage which is found on early Rs. It feels like it has come unclipped or something, but I can't get to it because the metal cage is held on by tamper proof bolts. The question is, can the metal cage be removed and disposed of? Anyone have experience of this problem? Thanks for any help, cheers
  15. OK, having thought about it, I think I'll keep it for another year. Quite like the look of this though! πŸ˜‰
