  1. An update on my car: I picked it up last Monday and have been driving it a bit, not just commuting. It does drive well now, it was great beforehand, it may be a placebo effect, but it does feel great with the gearbox and software update. Admittedly, that is with new plugs, engine oil etc. In Sport, it is smooth and very quick, it does feel smoother than it was, again how much is placebo and how much is just down to not having 40k on the gearbox?
  2. Well an update on my car. it is having the gearbox replaced. They tried the software update and it failed, tried resolving the problem and VW Germany said replace the gearbox. Should pick it up Tuesday or Wednesday. Then a few weeks of taking it easy. Thank God for warranties.
  3. Mine has a pano roof and I’ve had it since new in 2017, zero issues and I use it throughout the summer months.
  4. Lovely alloys, I do like Pretoria's. soak them in wheel sealant lol.
  5. @MJC1216 A good write up and yes, the R is a fairly hard car to beat for what you get. I have had mine since August 2017 and apart from the odd warranty hiccup so far so good and recently clocked over the 40k mark. I have had the thought to replace my car at some point in time, however, it's a hard choice as getting a high BHP Estate is not always an easy decision. For me, the Golf is a keeper, I just need to persuade my other half to move away from manuals lol.
  6. Had my car in yesterday for Service and MOT at dealers, they also had it flagged as needing the software 'quality' update on the gearbox. At 9 am this morning it was ready to collect and at 9:30, they had found a fault with the Hydraulic pump for the gearbox. It will be replaced under warranty, which brings my clams to 3 bits. The Mechatronics Unit A front door central locking part now the Hydraulic Pump On a positive note, it was found at the dealers, they straight up said warranty replacement. On a negative note, I have more time driving a manual Taigo, not a car I would buy. I have also just popped over 40K. Has anyone else had parts replaced over the Quality recall?
  7. Hopefully this does not break any site rules, I am going to see about getting VW Retrofit in Redditch to do it, was waiting for weather to improve. https://www.facebook.com/vwretrofit/posts/another-mod-for-mk75-completed-now-tpms-version-high-with-visual-pressure-displa/3197381680389854/
  8. Thanks for advice. I have had mine serviced by VW Listers (Nuneaton and Stratford) since new, hopefully this manages the basic items and I have a VW warranty plan in place. I did update my brakes last year to CS fronts with Tarox pads Stock rears Hel lines x 4 also on all season tyres, went for Goodyear Vector Gen 3 I plan to get tyre pressure sensors sorted to display pressure and temperature. I am also going to get my car booked in for a update detailing and an update on its ceramic coating. Exhaust tips are also on the list, hence the how long does an exhaust last (how long is that string). Tbh it’s mainly so I can budget and get the car booked in for bits to get done.
  9. My R Estate will be 7 years old in August and I am after some information / advice. I plan to keep the car and I am looking at what I need to consider for long term maintenance. Yes, DSG service and Engine servicing as well as regular haldex. As I usually replace my cars after 4 years, this is completely new territory for me. What is the estimated life of the Golf R exhaust, yes lots of things influence this, however just after a finger in the air time. Has anyone replaced their hoses on engine, this is something I am debating, just put a full set of new hoses (and connections) with a colourful 3rd party, Is there anything else that I should consider maintenance wise and just in general if keeping the car long term? (Hi to anyone that I used to chat to).
  10. Welcome to the site from another R Estate owner. I have mine from new since August 2017 and still love how practical it is and how well it performs. The only thing I have done so far is updating the front brakes and hoses. I am however planning on some changes this year. There are or where (I have not been as active on here) a number of R Estate owners.
  11. Hi Dilly, did you get your reversing camera sorted?
  12. I eventually got round to having all seasons fitted. went for Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons Gen 3. So far (some -2c morning and night drives) I am happy with them, went with them over the Michelins. Will see how they are throughout the year.
  13. Welcome to the forum. Congrats on your new car, they do take some beating for what the R Estate provides. While there are options for the shorter version of the R, it’s a fairly hard to find a similar all rounder as what the R Estate provides.
  14. For my 2017 7.5 non gpf estate, it has ranged between 12 mpg and 45 mpg since new. For my commute to work, it pretty much sits between 25mpg (sport all way in) and 39 mpg (Eco-gentle) (out of curiosity) I could likely get better, however, it's really boring sitting there in Eco on a lovely country road, that winds suggestively through the countryside.
  15. Cheers, however looks like they are not doing 19’s. I know ATS are £727 for 4 fully fitted. Halfords were under £700 last month. Will sort some likely end of month, I think there are sales on then, it’s more principle than cost lol.
  16. I have been through winter weather from August 2017 to present, initially on P Zeros which managed -11c and then my PS4’s without any problems at -9c. However…. I am now going to move to All Seasons and currently waiting for next ‘sale offer’ on either Michelin Cross Climate 2 or Goodyear Vector 4 Gen 3’s. Most likely the Michelin’s https://www.tyrereviews.com/Compare/Vector-4Seasons-Gen-3-VS-CrossClimate-2.htm#:~:text=Snow Traction-,Looking at data from four tyre tests%2C the Michelin CrossClimate,Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen 3. The main reason is I am commuting on back roads in all weather throughout the year and lucky to get over 50 at times. For the majority of UK weather as long as you have summers with 4mm and above you are fine if driving sensibly, or if you can just stop home. For those living in areas that routinely get smegged by snow n ice, then full winter tyres work best.
  17. I’ve had my estate from new 2017) and it’s not so much the driving fast, it’s the handling that lets it be driven quickly and taking advantage of its road holding. I very rarely drive motorways these days unless it’s a trip to in laws in North Scotland. it’s pretty much all rural A roads and B roads. it’s that ability to just push it hard around pretty much all bends and turns. I don’t really find doing say 160mph as much fun as doing really twisty roads as quick as you dare.
  18. It varies, some weeks it’s about 34mpg, others it’s 18mpg ish My route to work is pretty much B roads and an A road that can be quiet or stuck at 45 - 50 mph. if you have drove the local roads near Caffine n Machine, that’s the type. With mine I have had it around 12mpg and upto 38mpg. it’s a fairly versatile car.
  19. I had mine replaced last year. went for : CS fronts with Tarox pads Stock rears Hel lines x 4 really like them and would go for them again. Amittedly it was Eons ago before this change that I had replaced pads and not just the car.
  20. I e done 27k ish ditto I usually replace a car at 3 or 4 years lol. my commute route is all fast back roads, very windy but fun. decided to replace early I think it’s about 20 years for me 2001 ish
  21. I had my brakes all replaced last week, still bedding them in at moment. so far after 200 miles feeling good. The full replacement was £1100 CS fronts with Tarox pads Stock rears Hel lines x 4 fluid Labour. which is not too bad really
  22. Me also lol. my commute route is all pretty much country roads, about 10 miles, limited motorway driving these days.
  23. Yeah pads, it’s like 20 years since I’ve had to have brakes changed lol. From chatting to Midland am going with Hel Brake lines The CS fronts and stock rears from what you have said think will go with Tarox strada pads
  24. Cheers. I’ve had a quote from Midland VW and may go with them. options for an alternative for a fast pad other than the DS2500
  25. I think that’s the route I will be going. looking to use these. https://vwaudispecialist.co.uk the joys of moving areas is trying to find some place local lol. @camelsac2002 where did you source your kit from
