Older model Forge Intercooler any good? (Stock location)
Kieran replied to GasMk7.5's topic in Modifying your Golf R MK7
In my experience it doesn't cool as well - it will reduce IATs but not as much as alternative intercoolers. The DO88 is the better cooler (or the later revision Forge cooler) especially in Australia - I'm from UK with significantly lower ambient temps -
That’s crazy! Guessing yours has the 7 speed gearbox? Took my last Golf R to Germany and on the autobahn I maxed the 6 speed box out at 196mph 🚗💨
-
No, I have the TTv4 on mine Yeah Stage 3 definitely is a lot to handle on some smaller tracks haha
-
I've got AP 6 pot calipers with 390mm discs, if I was to buy another kit I would get a 360-365mm size disc. This size disc is such a pain, only very specific wheels fit and if you get any dirt between the calipers and barrel, or a slight buckle it can easily cause the wheel to touch the caliper. I've had genuine prets, CM prets, Revo RV019 and all of them have scrapped the calipers (only very lightly, but still scraped) at some point. Whether that was down to dirt/stones getting between the caliper, or the wheels getting buckled very slightly in certain areas

Love a red R, don't see many facelifts in red! I bet the Akraprovic sounds ace! Looks like a fantastic spec 👌

I'm down in Warrington, not too far away

I've done well over 50k miles between this Golf R and my last one, both whilst running Stage 3 with a TTv4 running over 500BHP. Done countless track days and Nurburgring trips, and not once had an engine related issue. Potentially just luck, but I maintained them both very well, regular oil changes with quality oil, kept air filters clean, fresh spark plugs every 6-8k, always let car cool down and warm up correctly. I run own a garage (KWJ Performance in Warrington) and we've done a few Stage 3 builds for customers with the V4 and not one of them has had a failure yet. They have all been tuned by various different companies too. I do know of people who have had failures though, but I don't think it's as 'common' as a lot of people make out. It made around 505BHP on the dyno recently, but yeah it's pretty quick haha! I always recommend going Stage 3 expecting to need an engine at some point, at the end of the day it's a massive power increase, around £2.5-3.5k for a used low mileage engine including fitting so it's really not the end of the world if it all goes wrong! Highly recommend it if you are prepared for that, not much can keep up with these, especially from a standing start

It’s great. When it was first installed there were a lot of vibrations, but once bedded in it’s much better - can hardly tell the difference The VUDU software on this platform is fantastic 👌🏻
-
Haha! Thanks, I didn’t I think 500-520bhp is the sweet spot, quick enough and isn’t pushing the engine as far, so considered quite “safe” in my opinion I’ve done two track days with the turbo on this Golf R, and it’s great. On my last Golf R I also had a TTv4 and did 8-9 track days and again was faultless 👌🏻

They do yes 👌🏻

Thought I'd share my current Stage 3 Golf R. Been a member on here since 2017 after owning my first Golf R that I took to Stage 3 which I sold in 2019. I missed it more than I thought, so I bought another in 2020 and have taken it Stage 3... again 😅 Here's a list of the current mod list/spec: VUDU Stage 3 ECU and TCU software Turbo Technics V4 hybrid IS38 turbo Trackslag Downpipe 4" Milltek cat back, non res with valves Revo intercooler Revo LPFP Autotech HPFP Forge carbon fibre intake Pro hoses intake hose and elbow NGK Racing R7438-9 spark plugs Racingline catch can 4 BAR map sensor KW V3 coilovers VWR Full Dogbone Mount SuperPro Rear ARB Revo RV019 w/Michelin PS4S, 235/35/19 AP Racing Calipers w/390mm discs & RTS brake pads Here are my current fastest valid Dragy times, all carried out with full weight and 99 ron fuel; - 1/4 Mile, 11.11s @ 125mph - 0-60MPH, 3.13s (2.92s w/1ft roll out) - 100-200KP/H 7.10s It's currently running a base map so there's still more left in it! It's booked in to finish the Stage 3 calibration on 31st March, so will hopefully have some quicker times in April! Very excited to see what she'll do afterwards.

It's from https://kwjperformance.com 🙂 @expor Yeah, I love the tail lights, even just the look of them is much better in my opinion! Thanks! The tyre size is the same between the Bridgestones and the Michelins, but the handling is definitely better. I haven't done any 0-60 runs yet, but I'll certainly testing that soon 😃 I'll be sure to get some pictures up after the trip! I've gone every year for the past 3, tempted to go twice this year 😂 Unfortunately not, I believe the reading on the ECU still reads correctly though. The guy who done it said he's expecting to be able to offer mileage correction in the next 6-9 months

MPS4 v MPS Cup 2’s. Are the Cups worth extra £200 Outlay?
Kieran replied to Msportman's topic in Modifying your Golf R MK7
Give me a week and I’ll be able to tell you, just fitted cup 2s to mine Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I've done a few bits to the car recently, so thought it may be a good time to update this thread! I'm heading to the Nürburgring again on the 10th May, and to help reduce any oil surge (which I had been experiencing at Oulton Park) I picked up a Racingline Oil Management system. Bit of a hesitant purchase as there's a lot of negative feedback about this system with it leaking, turning orange and the drain bolt stripping overtime, but all the other options were over £600 and I couldn't bring myself to fork out that much! Anyway, it's fitted, and no problems so far, but after just 2 weeks it caught half a cup of substances...! A spider also decided to climb itself into the cup afterwards. 😂 I changed out the terrible Bridgestones on my 18" Neuspeeds for Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s. Very excited to see how these perform, especially with my ring trip next week, just hoping the weather is good! I swapped my Unitronic intake pipe and turbo elbow for the all in one Turbo Technics intake pipe and elbow after hearing it has much better flow, and just because it's only right my intake pipe matches my turbo brand! Haha. I also grabbed myself a great deal on virtual cockpit, MIB 2.5 Discover Pro, MK7.5 rear tail lights, and MK7.5 heated leather seats. Wiring into the BCM for the heated seats was quite nerve racking, but I managed to get it all working - aside from the fact I wired them the wrong way round, the drivers side button controls the passenger side and vice versa! I probably should've tested that before putting the entire interior back together, but hey ho, haha. I love the virtual cockpit and MIB 2.5, massive upgrade over the standard MK7 equipment. However, I am still missing the trim piece for the Discover Pro screen, so if anyone comes across one, I'd appreciate it if you could let me know, it's about £150 from VW and I'm not sure if I can bring myself to pay that much for a little bit of plastic trim 🙃 Lastly, I fitted a full replacement carbon fibre diffuser which I think completes the rear. Next on my to-do list is the rear brake pads, I'm stuck between EBC yellowstuff (around £60) or Ferodo DS2500 ( around £160), can't decide whether the Ferodo's will be worth the price difference. (I would appreciate any input) I'll upload some photos of the interior changes and rear lights that I've retrofitted tomorrow, somehow I haven't taken any yet!

Thanks, I forgot to reply to this! That helped me out a lot. I did managed to get them all fitted and working 👍

Looking for a bit of advice! I have just bought a set of leather heated seats from a MK7.5, which came with a new Kufatec wiring harness and the climate control with the heated seat buttons. (the guy I bought them off had them in his MK7 but never got around to wiring in the heated bits) Has anyone else used the Kufatec wiring harness? If so, any chance you could help me out as I'm not sure where the pins go. Here's a link to the harness: https://www.kufatec.com/en/comfort-retrofits/seat-heating-adjustment/harness-seat-heating-for-mqb-39952 Kufatec have a manual but they only let you view it if you have the original order details, and the guy I bought it off can't find the email, and tried contacting their customer service but they were little help

Check what happens when you change where you park your car. If mines parked on the road/street it reduces it by about £200-250 compared to parking it on the drive, and about £500 compared to parking it in the garage See if you can add any additional drivers with a lot of driving experience, parents, uncles, etc... Try playing with your voluntary excess. My excess is £1.3k but I've 'insured' by excess with https://www.questor-insurance.co.uk/private-excess-protection-insurance.aspx cost about £70-80 to insure my excess if I recall correctly, and it reduced my car insurance by about £150-200 Lastly, see if your insurance provides a discount if you get a dash cam fitted. Mine don't but I know some people who've managed to knock at least the price of the dash cam off

Little update. Fitted 18" Neuspeed RSE10 with worn Bridgestone Potenza S100's and got these Dragy times, best out of 3 runs. 10.81s - 1/4 mile 6.86s - 100-200km/h 3.03s - 0-60mph Extremely pleased with them, they were done with full weight and half a tank of fuel. Little less fuel, some octane booster and dialing in tyre pressures should get me into the 2s 0-60 and 10.7s on 1/4 mile!! For reference, the 19" ATS Racelight wheels I usually run with are about 9.9kg. The Neuspeeds are 8.6kg, so a 1.3kg difference has resulted in 0.22s on 1/4 mile and 0.19s on 100-200km/h. These runs were done on the same road, with similar weather conditions. Also worth noting the tyres on the Neuspeeds (Bridgestone's) are not as highly rated/regarded as the PS4S' on the ATS Racelights, so maybe with some better tyres I'd see even better times... See Dragy photos on this post:

Yeah, got it a couple weeks ago, I'm still figuring out which points are best to shift but so far I've had 3.04s 0-60, 7.05s 100-200, 11.03s 1/4

I would stick with what's tried and tested, just get an uprated IC and replace the standard one. Forge, Airtec, Wagner, APR, all good options, a lot of people claim Wagner is the best, but unless you're going Stage 3 I doubt it makes too much difference
-
I haven't done it, but it is a straight swap. Just two screws on the top of the grille and it pulls out

@bask04 I'm not too sure to be honest, I'm not a mechanic or a tuner unfortunately. However, when I've spoken to people who've had clutch slipping issues with the DSG, it almost always seems to be a result of the tune. I know plenty of people who have used a particular tuner, experienced clutch slip, then switched to a different one and not had any issues. In regards to the fuel pump, I'm pretty sure you are on the verge of what the stock HPFP can handle. You're best asking your tuner this question though, they should be able to explain whether you need an HPFP or not Also, every tuner is different. When I was going Stage 3, I was told by one tuner that I need a LPFP and a HPFP to achieve 500bhp, one tuner said I didn't need any, and the one I chose said I just needed a HPFP. I guess they tune cars in slightly different ways, which changes what is needed slightly.
