  1. Hey everyone I'm interested in the Oettinger exhaust that can be supplied by VW (part no 5G0071905P) https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/en/owners-and-drivers/accessories-and-merchandise/accessories/5G0071905P/exhaust-trims-4-piece-90mm-chrome-oettinger.html However I'm not sure if this will fit the standard Golf R bodywork (MK7.5) what with the original exhausts being oval. It makes me think that maybe there wouldn't be enough room for round tips There are some part numbers on the site of some bodywork items but the wording is that it was "designed to match" and not "is required" which got me wondering if that's just an optional thing or if I'm being too literal in my reading. I suppose I could email VW or Oettinger but they would probably say it's required in order to sell me some stuff! So would this be a straight swap or is it more hassle than that and would require new body parts? Cheers
  2. Anyone had a rear door speaker replaced due to leaking recently and what was the cost? Was it from the dealership? Also, I'm in warranty but I note the warranty doesn't cover seals. I guess I'm footing the bill for this one as technically the seal has failed Also regarding warranty claims on approved used cars, would I have to go back to the dealership I bought it from? It's a different franchise to my local one
  3. Over the last few weeks 18" matte dark Pretoria alloys Self leveling centre caps Gloss black mirror caps Helix subwoofer/amp More or less exactly how I wanted it now. Would have liked the larger pro nav screen and a rear view camera, oh and maybe wireless charging. Future projects most likely
  4. Thanks for the great info everyone. I'm more or less sure it's the speaker seal. I haven't done any testing because I don't want any more water in the car than necessary, but observations seem to show that's where it's coming from I bought this car used from a dealership but I noticed the warranty doesn't cover seals 😢 A bit shit to have to pay out for this after 2 months
  5. Hey all I've had my (used) Golf R for a couple of months. I initially had some extremely bad condensation on the rear window (literal water droplets, not just mist - this may be relevant later), but didn't think much of it as a) I didn't expect it to have any problems and b) I thought it may just be that the car was valeted and not dried out properly due to the time of year/it being raining Ran the AC on max for a while and it improved it, though it still fogs up a lot I was aware of the rear doors being an issue for water ingress and out of interest I had a feel around and it seems my rear left passenger carpet is damp (mostly where the front seat rails on the left are). It's that kind of damp that's not so bad that it's obvious/was tricky to tell if it was just cold if that makes sense We've had a bit more rain recently and I'm sure there is water getting in somewhere (but maybe not a lot). There were no obvious signs of water coming in through the door and down the plastic inside the car, but there was a bit of water pooled on the door sill, roughly where the "G" is in the below photo. I also feel like the right hand passenger footwell is also a bit damp which raises the question, could it be *both* speaker seals or could it be coming in from the boot? Again, I had a look but nothing obvious. Does the rear windscreen tend to fog up more than other windows in your cars? I am still in warranty so will be getting this sorted (hopefully without much fuss), but I was hoping to be able to find the source of the leak to speed things up and avoid any issues with my dealer saying there is no leak or they can't find one. Any advice on how to test/where to look would be appreciated Cheers
  6. Hi people Ordered some 18" Pretorias from a dealership in mid-late December (which have to come from Germany). Haven't heard anything yet I was sort of expecting a 3-ish week wait from what I've heard before, and you can lose a week or two due to Christmas. I also know there have been issues at ports due to Brexit/driver shortages etc, so I've been patient and haven't been bugging my dealership because I know there are all these things out of their control. Half the time we don't even know when stock is going to arrive at my job! Just wondering if anyone else has ordered non stock items lately and how long it took?
  7. Nearly had a heart attack when I paid £1.70 today. Won't be long. Robbery.
  8. Seriously considering this. Bought my R second hand and it seems like the original owner went for the most base spec one possible. Not sure what the fender audio system is (I don't think I have that). The spec on the VW site just says 8 speakers and Radio "Composition Media" incl. 8ZH I'd like to order this and have it fitted by a dealer (for peace of mind/car is still in warranty), but I have a Golf R and I wonder if it will flag up as not fitting (due to the spare tire issue) and they will refuse to do it. Is 000051419B the correct part number for the entire kit? If I ask them to order/fit this, is that sufficient or is there anything else required like the coding? Losing the spare wheel doesn't bother me as I spent the last 7 years with a 3 series that didn't have space for one. I've got some alloys on order so I'm thinking about getting runflats fitted and ditching the spare
  9. I was having a look through the accessories on VW's site and came across an Oettinger silencer/exhaust https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/en/owners-and-drivers/accessories-and-merchandise/accessories/5G0071905P/exhaust-trims-4-piece-90mm-chrome-oettinger.html Not sure if the Oettinger rear diffuser is /required/ or if it'd fit with the standard R parts. Would rather not spend 800+ quid on a lump of plastic Seems a bit minty, but I like the novelty of having something different and it still being "official" Saw a couple of videos on youtube and I don't rate the sound. That said, laptop speakers would hardly do it justice
  10. Hey all Back when I had my BMW 335i, I found that BMW offered some performance upgrades for their cars. Essentially you could pay to have an official BMW remap, noisy exhaust (worth its weight in gold), upgraded suspension and brakes, all while not affecting your warranty I've been looking around for the VW equivalent but haven't come across anything yet. The only thing I'm aware of is the Akrapovic exhaust that could be optioned on new cars. I wonder if this could be offered as a retrofit? Is there anything interesting hiding in the parts catalogue? I'd really like an OEM remap if it exists (just bought recently so have a 2 year warranty that I'd rather not risk)
  11. Hey everyone Thought I'd say hello and a bit of history to what led me here Been driving 10 years. First car was a 1.6 Mk4 Golf SE, which I absolutely loved. I remember the soft touch interior was worse for wear and peeling so I shelled out about 500 quid at VW for brand spanking new trim, glove box etc. Had a really nice stereo installed too (the infotainment is great these days but I miss how easy it was to throw in a nice headunit and speakers - I guess you still can but I wouldn't want to miss out on all the integrated stuff) Next car was a BMW 335i E90 that I kept for 7 years. What a car that was. My favourite thing about it was that you can get an OBD2 cable, connect it to an android phone and remap it via an app (MHD 54). There were dozens of maps to choose from, you could add exhaust pops and it only took a couple of minutes to change or uninstall. Probably looking at 360bhp just on a remap and no supporting mods. The sound it made was a literal head turner. I never tired of driving by and seeing people turn around in my rear view https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCdAkgKZ-fU Unfortunately the BMW is in a bad way. Overheating (suspected water pump), oil leak in engine bay, a couple of knackered shocks and due some new rear rubber, discs and pads. I've also felt like it hasn't been making its power for ages and that the idle is a bit rough/potential misfire waiting to happen I was reluctant to sack it off as it hasn't even done 80k yet - I still feel bad about it. I was being nagged at by coworkers and family to change it. My mind started to wander and here I am The Golf R just ticked all the boxes. Similar or better level of performance, can also be tuned, cheaper on fuel/tax, all wheel drive (so you can actually put the power down or have a chance of getting to work in the snow) and finally DSG and the infotainment system I don't know if anyone else has had this with other brands, but I never really felt like a BMW guy. Great car, loved everything about it, but it just wasn't me. Getting in the Golf was like being reunited with some comfy trainers. Anyway, I'm glad to be back - if I can just get this car net thing to work without putting a hammer through the screen 😠
