Hi Growmac.  Do you still have your Golf R Estate?  I'm thinking about having the same towbar fitted and had already realised the diffuser will have to be cut.... 😅but I just wondered if you could post a couple of pictures of how it looks with the towbar unattached.  How big is the hole, is it very visible without the towbar in place etc?  Did you also have any thoughts about what you might do if you come to sell the car etc?  Sorry for all the questions but would really appreciate any extra info before making the decision... Thanks, Scott

Scott, I'm sorry, I really don't come here often and didn't see your message. I'm assuming that this is no longer relevant? I do still have the car, and I'm still very happy with the towbar, so happy to take some photos in the incredibly unlikely event that you still need them.

The good news is Towtrust confirmed to me in writing that it will fit.

Pick up the car tomorrow, so fingers crossed just need to show that to my towbar guys and happy days

I'm still not quite sure what that proves that the pictures and fact of it fitted to my identical car didn't, but pleased you got it sorted out!

to me not a lot TBH. However the Towbar fitting places don't seem to want to do it without something from Towtrust

I've just fitted my MK7 R Estate with a Westfalia bar, I took my time to measure and carefully cut the smallest hole I could get away with in the diffuser. The electrical socket bracket, I manipulated a bit to get it super close to the bar. I had to open out the hole a bit more once it with fitted to the car with the dremmel. I've fitted it for the bike rack, I doubt I'll tow anything. I've ordered some PPF film to go on the bumper just around the area where the ball is in case of any handling errors!  If anyone needs an P/N's or pictures please don't hesitate to drop me a dm. 1990327406_WhatsAppImage2021-03-28at22_21_36.thumb.jpeg.49fcd34cc509193e52474279236a648e.jpeg

Hi! I've been following your Westfalia hitch install on the R Estate/Variant very closely. Can you confirm if you used part number 321782600001? I’m concerned about the clearance between the crossbar and the massive rear silencer: is there enough room for the mounting bolts, or does it interfere with the R exhaust cans? Thanks for your help!"

When resurrecting an old post it’s always worth checking when the forum member you’re directing your question to was last active on the forum. Unfortunately forum member @alpineRS hasn’t been active on the forum for five years so you they probably won’t respond to your post.

Unlikely to respond, but you never know!  I’ve seen inactive members come from the depths when called upon.  I guess nothing ventured, nothing gained.  😄
