OBD Eleven

So, I've had my 8R for 2 months now. Absolutely loving it, but the lane guidance is doing my head in.

It's steered me towards a hedge, a pothole and a cyclist once to often, so I reckon an OBD eleven is called for.

Is the OBD11 the best way ahead?

Are there alternatives that are better, or at least worth consideration?

Having had a look, am I right in thinking the "Pro Pack" with the NextGen device and the PRO VAG plan is the option to go for?

As a secondary question: those of you who have used it, what other functions and changes have you found beneficial?

As always; thanks in advance.

Cheers, Dave

Thanks Neil. I thought there would be but a search just gave me a whole load of individual posts but no overall section or thread.

If I'm wrong and my searching/eyeballs need work, I apologise!🤣

Definitely get the NextGen dongle with Pro pack (on VAG Pro plan), which allows you to code properly and not rely on the one-tap apps (to be avoided), which you have no control over and no knowledge of what they are changing.  You’ll be able to keep a history of what you change just in case you ever need to undo something or want to return anything you change back to factory for any reason.

Here is the link to the obdeleven board.

https://www.vwroc.com/forums/forum/84-obdeleven/page/3/

Anything with ‘Mk8’ and ‘coding’ in the title is relevant, so have a browse to see what other things people have done, mainly the first two pages of the board.

Here’s the link to the Lane Assist coding for obdeleven.  I already had obdeleven but worth it just to turn that off.

Remember the device is the same (NextGen) and the rest are just annual packages or credits for apps, so getting the Pro pack makes sense but you will need to renew it (at 50€) every year.

I bought the device only, and then bought a plan on their website (you get an activation code). Don’t buy through the app, as it will charge you more (they say it’s due to App Store fees).

Their service is very good and they helped me with many things

At the moment OBDeleven are the only ones (I know of) offering SFD unlock on their app (via 2-step identification) which is crucial to many of the things you may want to do (without it the car is pretty “closed up”).

Here are some changes I did on the 8

(most of them are up in the OBD forum here):

- Chirp at lock up

- Dynamic lighting system (highbeam assist) - Remember last setting

- AC Air Ci4culation - Remember last setting

- Soundaktor @ 0%

- Turn off Car2X (no service in my location)

There are other things that I did on my spouse’s Tiguan and my previously owned S3, like traffic light recognition, start/stop override, honk on close, and other controls for convenience opening of sunroof (which I currently don’t have), but I’m not sure if those can be done on mk8s.

Other things I’m still looking for ways to do:

- start/stop override (either remember last setting or stays off)

- Driving modes - remember last setting (reverts to Sport)

- Poor weather light auto-on

- Remember privacy setting without being registered (no WeConnect here)

@Buggeredifino

Dave, if you do get obdeleven, for the SFD protected modules which require a 2-step authentication to unlock SFD protection so you can make changes, Google Authenticator app is good.  I use that and it works well.

Also when come to do adaptations, with obdeleven, for some, you need to release the bonnet (using bonnet release handle) prior to carrying out the adaptation/coding in order for the adaptation to be accepted.

If someone gets any joy (success) with one of those,

I’d love to hear about it, so I can get it done as well.

Yes got SFD unlock sorted but never tried coding the highbeam assist as didn’t know it worked on the 8R. I’ll have to give it a go

Thanks for the reminder re bonnet open 😀

Apologies Neil, my earlier post (on SFD authentication and bonnet open) was actually meant for Dave @Buggeredifino but mentioned you in error.

I’ve edited it now.
