Doyley83
Hi all, I've been looking through threads on here for a while now so decided to join up to join in and have a few Q's of my own for the forum. I'm based in Cheshire and currently own a MK8 Golf R. Have had a few Golf's over the years but always wanted an R, so treated myself last year. Previous Golf's include - Golf GTI MK3 (8 valve) Golf GTI Edition 30 Golf GT Sport Looking forward to exploring the forum and contributing where possible 👍
Booth11
Welcome to VWROC James. What’s the spec of your 8R and how are you getting on with it? Hope you’re enjoying it. Post up any questions you have in the mk8R section and hopefully we can help you out with some answers. belfast col and Doyley83
Doyley83
Thanks @Booth11 My 8R is a 21 plate in black with the performance pack, adaptive dampers, Akrapovic Exhaust, leather interior, rear view camera, HUD and sunroof. I love the car but there are a few niggles, it's about to go in for a steering wheel replacement to fix a fault and it's had a few recalls. I've literally just got the replacement engine cover having never had one since I bought it. Main gripe is despite the heavy specification, it doesn't have a screen wash sensor - madness! It's coming up to warranty expiry so I might start tinkering with it soon. Edited March 8, 2024 by Doyley83 Booth11

Booth11
A stunning R you have @Doyley83, looks superb, and a great spec! Yeah it’s weird how some things that you’d expect on a generally well specced car are absent - low washer fluid warning being part of the optional Winter Pack so not standard. Still the heated steering wheel as standard more than makes up for that in my book. Doyley83
Doyley83
Whoever built the spec originally must have deemed it unnecessary, it has heated front seats so maybe not justified. It's annoying though, I'm pretty sure my first car (mk3 Fiesta) had that function 😂

It's annoying though, I'm pretty sure my first car (mk3 Fiesta) had that function 😂 There’s a good reason that whoever first specced the car may have deemed it unnecessary. I’ll explain: Winter Pack includes: - Heated front seats - heated windscreen washer jets - low washer fluid warning light - heated steering wheel So when you spec the leather seats option (which cost £2,100 in 2021) you get heated front seats (and air cooled) as part of that, heated steering wheel is already standard (on performance models) which means if you spec Winter Pack, back in 2021 you’d be paying £550 (as was the price for it back then) for only heated washer jets and low fluid warning, rather a lot to pay for such small additions. So that’s why the original owner probably gave it a miss. I did (I have leather). Doyley83
